Secrets of the Dragon
«

It's been suggested I make a new thread on this, so here goes. The damage-based Secrets are a Dragon skillset, in that they're Dragon Discipline skills. We've already seen some utility added to all Monks by having Secret of Ice turned to a snare + slow with a chance at a stun. Considering Dragons have no unique utility, how about adding the following?
- Secret of Force (mental): deals moderate damage, somewhere between fire and ice, and debuffs mobs' melee and ranged accuracy - pummeling your foes with mental damage, you numb their minds.
- Secret of Lightning (arcane): deals high damage, like fire, but has a chance to proc direct damage instead of a DoT. This wouldn't be utility as such, but it would allow Dragons the choice between DoTs on single targets (with Fire) or DD procs on mobs that might still have to be stunned, mezzed or otherwise removed from the encounter.
- Secret of Will (spiritual): deals moderate damage, like ice, but slows spellcasting and has a chance to silence for 4 secs - this could be the Secret of Ice against spellcasters.
These wouldn't be overpowering, as we'd still need Jin to switch over between them and the effects are short-lived. Hence, you wouldn't be switching over between them to stack up effects. And it would be easier to do than giving us a DPS balance tweak for now.
Thoughts, my fellow Dragons?

1) make all secrets perm buffs (this includes secret of trans)
2) increase the dmg % on secret of trans
3) allow secrets to proc off ranged attacks, this helps in raids, pulling, etc
4) Change secret of will to physical dmg, since secret of transcendence is already spiritual.
5) Secret of force: fine as long as the Accuracy debuff lasts about 20s
6) Secret of lightning: Id say make this more dmg then fire, that way it could be a staple dragon monk offensive buff
7) secret of will: (make physical dmg)

Yeah, agree on the Transcendence vs Will. I personally think Transcendence would do better with a casting debuff than extra DPS. If extra DPS, what's the use for Secret of Fire other than the fact it has fire instead of spiritual damage (thus making it limited to only raids)? If it has a casting debuff, we might be able to finally solo something - casters, who by definition have less HP than tanking or melee dps mobs.

Great ideas, wish i'd come up with it
. Dragon would truly be diverse with these added to our arsenal.
We could develop a chart, showing which weaknesses were exploitable from different Aura's also...
What other types of damage can be generated in game?
Should we consider stacking affects for complimentary Elements? Or opposing...
i.e. Secret of Flames + Secret of Ice generating an additional affect if stacked on a mob such as a penalty to mitigation
(think heated and rapidly cooled metal)
Just a thought, always wondered why they didn't implement something similiar to this.. but i'm sure the opened weaknesses are roughly the same idea.

I would love for this to happen. Pulling would be much easier and faster if secret of ice would snare when i throw shurikens.
As for the dragon only secrets, they sound like they'd be just what the doctor ordered. I hope you guys get em

I liked Fujitsu's suggestion in another post, that Transcendance be a buff that grows for us... since it's sort of a pinnacle Monk Secret. It's just hard to choose an appropriate way to fuel this. Something similiar to the Rogue self buff, or the warrior one. But I also always felt it should be a Dragon only ability... and we definately need something unique to call our own.

I thought they did proc with range... i've seen Secrets of Ice on mobs I pull with the Summoned Wardship Shurikens... maybe it was a bug, i only recall this a time or two.

as far as ive seen ive never had a secret proc off a ranged weapon
as for dmg types and opposing elements.
Fire ---- ice
physical -----mental
Arcane --- spiritual
Thats all 6 dmg types with 6 total secrets (3 exclusive to dragons)
Id say leave transcendence as is, up its dps to 10% for fights were mobs are immune to magic, thus makiing melee the
top choice.
Flame --- fire dmg, fire dot (big dps)
lightning ---- arcane dmg (more then fire), dd proc (again more then fires dot),,, dragons choice for dps buff
will ---- physical dmg (same as ice), spell casting slow and mana drain, chance to proc 4 sec silence (for mobs immune to stun, the caster equiv of ice)
ice --- ice dmg, snare, stun, slow (medium dps) (melee version)
transcendence --- spiritual dmg, 10% dps (high melee dps option for magic immune targets)
force ---- mental dmg, (more dmg then ice, less then fire) decrease targets accuracy/avoidance

Agreed. Maybe change the names for Will & Force around... Force seems to go better with physical than Will does, no?

I'd still like to consider making transcendence a defensive oriented secret. I feel that another damage oriented secret (secret of fire being the other) would be a waste as there will always be one that is never used because it adds less damage than the other.
For transcendence I would like to see something that adds to all damage resists and possibly a melee damage returned as health aspect, as we discussed in the previous thread dedicated to transcendence. My ideal would be:
+ % to melee damage
+ x arcane damage
+ x to each damage resist type
+ % damage dealt returned as health

well if it added melee dmg (enough to be worth while) it would be used when mobs are immune to magic

Looks great Fujitsu, and Khana i agree completely with the swap of names for the other 2, was going to suggest the same as Will always strikes me as being more mental, less physical. Love to hear what Quinn thinks
As far as transcendance going defensive... i'm torn there. In some ways i loved some of the ideas from the SoT post.. on the other hand.. i can't help but think we're an offensive based class... and the strongest defense can be an onslought of offense. We just got to get the Dragon there... and this would help. But overall i do like the way it's layed out in Xenophon's setup. I considered suggesting it have an affect similiar to the one blood mage ability.. where 10% of the party's damage is returned as a heal to the Transcendant Monk. I don't think that's too imbalancing, blood mages get that ability sometime before lvl 30 i believe.
All in all, a very exciting concept, let's see what others think

- Secret of Force (
physical
): deals moderate damage, somewhere between fire and ice,
and increases the speed at which the monk strikes with his weapons by 15%.
(since haste will become important when auto attack is seperated from , and a dragon monk lacks any haste buffs, this will allow them to have a haste option when they dont have enough gear or buffs to reach the haste cap. If secrets still proc on auto attack, this could be a very popular choice for dragons)
(i agree, the damage from the proc should be less than the fire's proc, but if this is proc enough in succession then it would do more dps than the fire's dot, which would overide itself with each new application, thus this would be our best dps secret for whe fully hasted and striking very quiclkly in succession, like, if the fire procs and does 1000 damage over 4 seconds, but the lighting procs 3 times in those 4 seconds for 750 each, it would be more total damage)
- Secret of Will (Mental): deals moderate damage, like ice, but slows spellcasting 20% and has a 15% chance to interupt spell casters - this could be the Secret of Ice against spellcasters.
(silence do not work in game currently)
These wouldn't be overpowering, as we'd still need Jin to switch over between them and the effects are short-lived. Hence, you wouldn't be switching over between them to stack up effects. And it would be easier to do than giving us a DPS balance tweak for now.
Thoughts, my fellow Dragons?
I would remove the spiritual damage from transcendance and just have it as a flat +10% damage option for when mobs are very resistant to spell damage.
For dragons, to take the place of the now missing Spiritual damage secret, a secret i think many here will enjoy:
Secret of Scarring
: Mild spiritual based damage, around half of fire, that steals life with each strike, and has a 10% chance to proc a "soul sip" effect that returns health equal to 75% of the attack that triggered it.
This would be a perfect aid for dragon monks who have the hardest issue soloing currently, and it would be ideal for raiding if aoes are constant, can switch to this if needed.

Well, add a Bard to the group and you would be invincible. Then again, I haven't seen BMGs use their Blood Feast at all past 40 because it's such an aggro magnet. Likewise, I wouldn't use that ability unless I was solo - I don't fancy going FD every 2 secs. So I guess it pans out and wouldn't be too overpowering - survival in exchange for certain aggro.
