So ive been runing vista 64 for about 6 months and loving it, averaging 60-70 fps on my machine, but people swear left and right that XP averaged about 10-20 fps more because of the less memory intensive nature.

So i decide what the hell, i have a 300 gb HD ill do dual boot XP and vista right?  So to be safe i back up everything on my hd (programs etcs, just not the OS files).  I put XP on for dual boot and after a painstaking 2 hours i get it in dual boot, select  xp and boot, try it out and its ok but i really didnt notice any difference, so i go back to boot in vista and got a new error.

Display driver nvlddmkm.sys has stopped responding but recovered.

So i sit on the phone with vista help for about 3 hours and they just give up and say my video card went bad.  I remove XP, do a 100% fresh/clean install of vista and get the error again.  Anyone else find a work around for this?  Cause i find it hard to beleive a 3 month old 8800 gtx is the issue.

To save everyone the head ache,

If this happens to you it means youve most likely got a motherboard problem.

MOBO problems include but arent limited to:
1) G card isnt pluged in all the way (can happen on 8800 gtx because of their weight they can "sag" and start to pull them selves out
2) Bad power cables going from the p supply to the card
3) bad Connect from the HD to the MOBO (try new cables and different sata slot)
4) New drivers, new drivers, new drivers. for the vid card and the mobo

Just one of these probably wont be enough to fix it, and from the 340+ posts on google i read, i get the feeling the problem is pretty unique and each person experiences it for a different reason.  Long story short, 8800 gtx are heavy mofos and i have brace in there supporting it now and am back to vg :-p  Give these a try first before you try anything crazy (modifying the registry or getting a brand new vid card like microsoft tech support suggested)
