Hey guys, i played Vanguard from the open beta, when the game first came out like most i found the game too buggy and not much fun. After reading some of the encouraging stuff people have said about the game i decided to come back. I origianally played a warrior but decided to play a monk this time around.

So here are my questions. Firstly, what kind of weapons do most higher level monks use? I currently use a green bladed staff, which seems to be the most dps compared to 2 green h2h weapons. It seems quite tough to keep up with all the different skills. Not only do you have to keep up 2hp, 2hs, 2hb, and h2h, you also have to keep the ulak/claw, fistwraps, knuckles and then the 2h skills. I know it can only be advantageous to keep all the skills at once, but at times it can be hard to afford more then a couple weapons. So what would you guys reccomend?

My next question is for the styles. I read a couple of the posts about the different styles, so ill let you guys know kinda what i percieved the styles to be. Dragon, best dps style. Not so defensive. Harmonious a mix of both, last as far as dps goes(not sure if thats how its supposed to be), with debuff's. Drunken is a defensive style that can hold aggro really well, but is also 2nd as far as dps. Thats what i percieved the styles to be. My question is what style should i go for at 15, still a little bit off to pick, but still only 4 levels away. As far as grouping/non-exsistent raid content what is the most desireable of the styles and which do you think i should pick at 15?

Thanks a lot for the help, and so far the game has improved a whole lot from when it first went live.

Just try keep the h2h, 2hp 2hb and 2hs up, its fairly easy once you get  a few lvls, you find they go up quickly.  Dont worry overy about the weapon types (ulak, claw etc) as that can catch up easily any time-its simply damage bonus so even at 0 skill at lvl 30 you still hit as often

It's a pretty tough call between bladed staff and handwraps end game for DPS. My bladed staff of devestation seems to have a very slight edge over my pair of Striking handwraps...

At your lvl, i'd say a player crafted handwrap of striking (lvl 22) would be a nice weapon until you get a zank at 30 for max DPS.

Bladed staffs and Handwraps, again, are very close DPS wise. Keep in mind, you have 2 handwraps working for you that hit at exactly the same time (the second for half the damage) so once you add that up, its a lot of DPS.  Wink

you can only get handwraps of strike for t4 and t5 i think, not 100% sure on it.  For low levels best dps is easily bladed staff

get the cragwind weapon at 32 and youll be set till 48.  Theres really no good low level monk weapons, the low level quest ones are all martial swords which are pretty bad for dps.

As far as style, i would go harmonious unless you know youll be tanking, then go drunken for its uber taunts.  Dragon is really only good at 50 when you dont have to grind anymore, and you want the 2-3% more dps.  Hopefully that will change soon, although im not to found of them just making dragons ae' kings since ae's are so weak in this game anyways.

Alright guys thanks a lot for all the suggestions. I got a couple pairs of superior brute handwraps and they seem to be doing me pretty good. In a couple levels i got a bladed staff upgrade. I guess for now i will keep the h2h and bladed staff skill maxed for the end game.

I was thinking harmonious as well. As far as soloing i understand its the best? I havent really been able to test out my true soloing ability, but then again i am still only lvl 13 and imagine i am lacking a lot of skill to make soloing easier. What kind fo stuff should i be able to solo with harmoious? Are we talking just 2dot mobs or 3 dot mobs or what? I know that soloing isnt necesarily the best route, but dont have a choice if i can find a grp.

I am originally from Kojan, but went to thestra because thats where i leveled up my warrior to 15 and found that its easier to level in a familiar place. Anyone tested out the place they updated in Qalia? I am at school at the moment but when i get home i plan to check it out and see how that works out.

Thanks again guys.

At 19 I can kill 3 dots but it aint pretty, I prefer to stick to 2 dots, but then again I only just changed to Harmonious from drunken, I think I could probably kill 3 dots more easily now judging by how much health i have left after a 2 dot
