What are some tactics people use to solo with their Monk vs 3 DOTS? (im assuming 4 dot being impossible with a monk)

My Monk is Dragon Style 46, and I find with Storm style on I have to kill the mob EXTREMELY fast or soloing is not an option vs 3 dot in this stance because of the mitigation NUKE. I find I solo better at times with this style OFF and prehaps the health regen style on (dragon)  (soloing seems very unpredictable with Storm Dragon stance on since the mobs hit so hard, it really depends on finishers connecting or your SOL and have to FD)

Another tactic I use is swaying step. I constantly click swaying step, then counter attack. It's slower, but safer. I also use this tactic to get my weapon skills up on weapons I do not use a lot.

I'm currently lvling up my martial sword because at 47 I have a sweet sword waiting for me (the martial sword of sorching) and am hoping that using a martial sword for soloing will be much better surviviability wise mixed with swaying step as one of my evasion skills to keep me alive.

Has anybody found a good monk solo tactic for dragon? How does drunken and harm stack up for soloing, and what are some good tactics for those as well?

Harmonious solos the SNARF out of everything, mostly cause the majority of their attacks debuff.

Drunken do the best dps when tanking due to their slap hand buff (perm 300 pt damage shield) but dont solo as efficently as harmonious.

Dragon - sadly the worst solo and the most dificult.  At 50 i can kill 4 dots but only lvl 38 and lower and only if i have secret of celerity up.  My personal prefrence for soloing 3 dots was definatly martial sword and stone dragon stance.  Simply because stone dragons only penalty is slow, which is meaningless.  That and when you have a martial sword on, you can pretty much keep quivering palm up (6 sec debuff for -50% dmg)

My tactics:

- Sun Dragon's Corona on
- Full Jin if it's a named
- Jin Surge + FotFD whenever Jin Surge is up
- First crit spent on Gouging and Sundering Dragon's claw
- Storm Dragon stance with a two-hander the first few seconds of the fight to maximise DoT damage and every time I need to renew the DoT
- Then switch to either a martial sword or a H2H combo, depending on the mob variety (some hit hard and fast, some stun a lot), combined with Stone Dragon.
- If the going gets rough, either Swaying Step chain, or RitW + Offensive stance and hope to deal as much damage as I can, as fast as I can. And of course, Iron Skin when it's up.

I probably have an easier time than most, because I can use both Ignore Pain and the orc racial to heal up.

Prety same as Khana above. Im Dragon Monk lvl44. Only thing is, i dont switch to two hander cause DoT dont raises from it - didnt realize any change - even with flawless crafted weapons, maybe im wrong? Also RitW is great to start at begin from fight, so you in advantage.

Allways start with Gouging/Sundering finisher, its much higher damage as Thousand Fist finisher combo if DoT lands nice (mostly 2,5K/tick and 4 ticks there are)

Dragon monk solo is two-way-life:

1. Dish out fast as you can, more then a mob - so he dies faster than you. Berserk like - use all you got.
2. Cover yourself behind martial sword, stone stance, swaying step and feel like a whimp when you see your damage but kill save ;-)

My deal is to have allways about 80 or more eggs in backpack and use after every (hard) fight my macro:

/useitem "Hard xxxxx Egg"
/cast "Meditation"
/combatformset "Dragon Stance"

I tryed Harmonius out at lvl 43, played whole day, half solo half in Graystone with my group. Hands down, Harmonius solos like hell, after 43lvl dragon you feel like a mega-tank ;-) Only bad thing about Harmonius is, that Dragon is 500% more fun in group imho. You dish out hell damage with bard and shamy/cleric buffs, a lot more than Harmo, cause of storm stance and tons more endurance. Huge Crit rate from Harmo is not that better in group, cause with handwraps im moving about 30% crit groupbuffed. I tested it with Flawless handwraps of striking , also with flawless martial staff/graystone staff. The Crits are much higher and you can spam styles without even sec break.

Its for me no option, i beter suck solo and rock (imho!!) in group :-)

Deshiro is absolutly correct when it comes to our dots.

FotFD - 1k dmg over 16 sec.  No modifiers, straight damage.  Not effected by anything other then str and crits.
Sundering dragon - 4.5k dmg over 6 sec ( tics at 0, 2,4,6) ---> 1k a tic average, if it crits....well over 2-3k a tick

Again neither is affected by 2 handers.

I personally always put my first crit into thousand fist, because 2 thousand fists is ~9k ish uncrit, and sunder/gouging is ~2k+4.5k uncrit.  But i do make sure i keep fotf + jin strike up as well as making sure that i use goug/sundering early in the fight.

That's entirely possible, but I never get high numbers on DoTs with a Martial Sword, and always do with a Bladestaff. Maybe the numbers I've seen have biased my opinion.
