Whats up all. Just wanted to share with you a anecdote involving my friend and his 17 Drunken monk. So I play a 17 disciple and we were grouping with a 17 sorc and 18 cleric at the time. We were grinding away in Ksavari Gulch in Qalia for a few hours and were in to a point none of us had been in. 18 3 and 4 dot mobs. Anyways the closest thing we had to a tank was our drunken monk friend and he was rockin hard, holding agro, pulling, dishing out the dps. We come to a point where we come across a level 20 4 dot Named mob. We had fought for many hours, and there was no way this roadblock of a monster was gonna send us packin. So my monk friend pulle dthe mob, me and the cleric threw down some initial heals till we could all hop on him and we urned him down without losing anyone. Very impressive to see a monk do that. Just thought you all would find this entertaining.
BTW. the loot was 122 AC greaves with 10 str, 10 dex, 22 physical absorbtion, and 82 hitpoints.

Well sure, almost anyone can tank with 2 healers  Tongue       The thing that gives a drunken monk advantage over all other non tank classes is his aggro management abilities.  It's cool that they can hold aggro without the sick DPS (which they should have anyway).  Interesting enough a lot of tanks hold aggro from a combination of DPS and taunts instead of pure taunt hate gain.  If they boost the drunken monks DPS to a fair lvl he could plausibly be the best aggroer in the game?  lol!  interesting thought....

Dammit, hurry up and delete this thread before a developer reads it and assumes we're fine.   Wink

Yah 2 healers.  A bloodmage has about the same AC and avoidance as monks do.  Could have tanked it just as well and would keep agro with the sheer amount of damage and healing they do.

In fact, in retrospect the cleric would have tanked it better.  Much better mitigation than the monks avoidance.

Yeah really, while I (as a monk) certainly appreciate the optimism/compliment you offer, you have to realize a wet noodle could tank with two healers .

And that scenario also gets less and less feasible as you level. At level 30, healer be damned if he/she's letting me take hits in a group.

Hmm...I am duo equal level 4 DOT mobs with a disciple at lvl 39 and seem to be doing just fine, and that is in tiger stance without a windblade.  Of course that is using Reed in the Wind II.  Still not as good as mitigation as a tank for sure, and we shouldn't be able to either.  But we do just fine.  I would love our defensive stances to get a boost thought for harmonious and drunken to make them worth using.  But again, it is not all doom and gloom.

Hehe that may be possible Leadfoot, because i daresay disciples can heal indefinately.  But i bet it takes you guys like 3-5 minutes+ to kill them mobs because of low DPS, hehe.

I duo with a disciple fairly often, and I can attest, the dps is rather subpar :p
