I just joined the forums and started a monk. My character name is Satsuu Jinto on the Thorendyl server. I started him up last night and got him up near level 9.

The reason I wanted to try a monk was watching someone on Shidreth that just blew away every other monk I'd played with. It really showed how strong the class could be played.

These forums look great, I'll see you all around.

I think what he did better than any other monk I've played with started with his taking control of positioning for the pulls. He had a macro that said something like, "Please move up to right here, but not beyond."  I think at first it kind of annoyed a couple of people and at least one was for letting the tank pull, but the tank said to give the monk the lead because he [the warrior] had never been in the dungeon.

When he pulled the target into the group he FD in a good position to let the tank take it without letting it jump to the casters. If the warrior didn't grab it, it was outside the group aggro. I think the warrior was good as well, or at least he paid attention and grabbed aggro without any fuss or going out too far and getting adds.

When it did get to the group the monk would wait a bit for old aggro to go, then pop up and set up conditions to be taken advantage of and just go pure DPS, up to the point he took aggro, then he'd shake it off and go for the next pull. His timing was almost always perfect giving us just enough time to kill one, and be waiting for the next. He was careful to watch the healers mana level, but if another class burned through their mana/sta he'd pull anyway and the group learned to conserve.

The last thing was he knew the dungeon better than anyone, or at least acted enough like he did to inspire respect in the group so we had one leader and not 6 people all wanting to try a different direction and getting adds unintentionally.

Some of it wasn't the monk ability so much as leadership, but the monking made it a breeze to heal for. I was a bloodmage at the time.
