I am a lvl 12 monk and recently got a Wind Blade as a drop.

Since I hadn't used a sword yet my skills were 1 for both 2-H slashing and Martial Sword.

As I was building skill with it, I noticed something strange about the rate at which they increased.

By the time I had maxed my Martial Sword skill at 60 my 2-H slashing had only increased to 43 of 120 possible.

This along with the rate at which my HtH seems to increase (slow as hell) I'm wondering if the skill up rates are reversed.  If not it should be looked into anyway since what good is a 10% damage bonus when you can't hit stuff.  Sad

Anyone else have info or thoughts on this?

Weapons style skills always increase much slower than specific weapon skils, and they have higher caps.
The former determines accuracy, the later just adds damage to your attacks.

I understand what the different skills do for us.

I am trying to understand the reasoning behind how fast the skills increase.

It doesn't make much sense to me that the skill that can increase 10/lvl increases slower than the one that only increases 5/lvl.

I can kinda understand the HtH since we have several weapon types that depend on it. (Knuckles, Claws, Wraps)

However, with 2H slashing we only have martial swords.

Weapon style skills have always seemed to raise slower.  This was because it use to be based off your hits only.  If you missed with your attack you wouldn't be eligible to gain a skill point.  If I recall correctly they changed it so you could skill up on misses as well.

As far as a reason for it still increasing slower then the damage category, Only the dev's know if the two are on separate rates of increase.

As far as I've been able to tell, the specific weapon types (Martial sword, claws & Ulak, etc) have importance to your dps only when you reach the specialization cap for that particular weapon, wherein you increase the damage output by 10(?)% (I don't have VG on this comp, so can't check tooltips).  I leeched points from my martial staff and shuriken to get sword, blade staff, claw/ulak & knuckles up to max.

I wonder if they forgot to link that change to the general weapon skills because it sure doesn't feel like they increase any faster since the patch. (and I miss a lot  Smiley )

I guess I just wish it was the other way around cuz hitting more often for less damage is more fun then wiffing and wasting endurance.  Sad
