So, what race is everyone going to try for monk? I'm not aware of any limitations for specific classes, but considering the fun in EQ around human vs iksar, looking forward to see what people think about monks in vanguard

This is the single biggest question that has been bugging me about VG. I've been playing an orc during beta but i just cant get warm up to him. I want to play a Dragon monk so i KNOW that orc is the way to go but i just cant warm up to him..i keep wanting to play a human....decisions...decisons...i dont like the Morebi or however you spell it racial ability but the kojan human.....mebe ill roll one up and try it out. I really like the Orc damange and he is big as He##...Played a human monk during eq1 on druzzil ro and a friar in daoc..a human..Tk in swg...lol dunno.

I am going Raki. Been playing Raki in beta and love it. I like the smaller races in this game so it was between Raki and Goblin for me.

I'm torn between Qualiathari and Orc for a single reason. Pulling. My primary love as a monk was end game pulling, and the racial and statistics of the qualiathari seem to lend themselves much better for pulling purposes. My plan was either a human drunken monk (for the defensive/dodge/counter attack bonuses for pulling) or the orc for damage.
My quandry lies in, what happens if I build a great puller, and pulling is no where close to as important as it was in EQ?

OK. well i havent actually played eq or eq2 or even the beta for that matter but i have made up my mind for going orc heavenly dragon style monk. the orc is for the +10% damage and the next 5 hits the damage u deal will be returned to u in hp AWSOME especially cos by the looks of it we dont have very good healing abilities. that said we have ignore pain or w/e which heals us for 300-400 for a rank 1 but well i dont know how this will increase. what i would liek to know is what the stat bonuses that orcs get and well what all the different stats actually mean

Orcs get Str and Con bonuses so basically you will hit harder and have more life.

well last night i rolled up a Kojani human and played up to lvl 7. I like it alot better. I know that an orc will have better stats for a monk, especially a dragon style..but the Kojan, with the asian theme just feels better. the starting area and quests are very nice..mostly about jin which feels alot more monkly..i know that one on one an orc monk will have better offensive stats..but i just couldtn warm up to the orc...just my 2 c. hehe

I'm not too worried about stats. I just want to enjoy the game to the fullest. For that reason, I'm almost positive I'll be rolling a Half-Elf.

I'm going to play a goblin monk. I think having a tiny green goblin kicking ass will be great.

I'm going to go Dark Elf. I like the evilish aura and classy style they have. A humble dark elf just seem like the way to go.

I agree with twynn here, I absolutely love Kojani Human's look. I have a dark elf currently but I'm a girl and I just can_not stand their hair styles lol. I know thats not usually basis on choosing race, but Kojani are just so much prettier. Plus I like the starting area/continent better than DE one. Kojani racial skill seems a little more appealing to me as well.

Definatly going orc here. Ever since i made my first monk when Kunark was released ive been a big fan of the iksar race. Never really liked any human type races i dont know if its because of bad memorys from freeport and not being able to see more then 2 feet infront of me or what but i just cant stand them. I did roll up a Kojani and half elf monk but i just really didnt like the asian theme as much as the orc's area. Orcs also get the best stat bonuses and a really awsome racial trait especially since im going dragon style.
