cause here it comes.... the melee bug fix is in fact... a huge ass nerf which is including many many changes which have nothing to do with the "fix."
all this so the whiny ass sorcs can have their way.

You know what? I'm fine with it. My heart bleeds for the drunkens who are going to lose alot of their edge with the changes that went on test the other day, but I've looked over my numbers and I'm fine with them. If anything I just want to see my debuff timers get fixed on raids and I'll sit in a corner with my cookie.
And don't forget what is on test is not permanent YET...

You realize its not just drunkens ;-p
All monks have the following atm:
Secrets = reduced to 50% proc instead of 100%
Crescent kick-- went from 8 seconds to 12 seconds
thousand fist - went to 1 min 30 sec
ashen hand went to 10s (will have lower dmg soon)
And that was just the first wave...
Overall im slightly upset because instead of fixing sorcs, they are nerfing us. But if their ultimate goal is to have all melee in this magic 3-4k range then the will definitely achieve it. And atleast we will still have a spot in raids since Melee A = B so any melee is fine now.

Yes I know, but imo the drunken are still getting smacked alot harder. I'll never get fatigued
In fact, the only number I'm seeing different today from the set I posted on your thread in the general game discussion 2 days ago is the crescent kick. I very well may have bought myself a little nerf by reporting the 8s timer, but meh, it was inc anyway. (Though I'm not vain enough to think the devs bothered reading my post)
This may sound silly, but I'm not worried because I have faith the game will still be playable. The nerf hand takes, but the other one gives back... We've all heard the wild speculation about APW mobs' hp being re-specced, or all raid encounters being boosted to 24 man (not just the new ones). Yes rumors are about as real as a gnomish monk, but then the changes on test aren't real yet either.
I expect the changes on live servers to see yet more tweaks in the weeks following the update anyhow when the ones who aren't bothering to look over test now get a taste of "HOLY SH*T" and flock to the forums to have the same debate we're having now.
In the mean time, I'm more than willing to give parse data if it helps. My rinky-dink numbers from soloing may not be what they're after, but I won't have it said I let the changes happen unfairly. How/where do devs want parse data?

I have yet to get fatigued while stacking FoC and ES on test, has this not been implemented yet?
This patch will force me to change around my macros with the introduction of timers for certain abilities (like ashen hand, and the increase to thousand fists which I can no longer spam without worrying about the refresh time in order to time it with my FoC and ES).
I don't expect it to be a huge nerf (at least relative to the other DPS classes), and unless many more changes are coming I don't see myself losing my place at the top of our guild's dps charts.
On the other hand the discrepancy does need to be lowered as I just got 3.75 million damage on X99 last night (I just got my 5th set piece and my dps went up considerably).
off topic: having just gotten it I was wondering what the icon looks like on your buff bar when it procs? (I keep looking for the Fists of Celerity icon but have not seen it, while I am noticing it procing in my logs).

Fatigued is apparently the buff you get when you proc with the fabled monk weapon. Odd that something that restores stamina is called fatigued.

Did you get the fabled weapon then?
It shows up on your buff bar as "fatigued" strange, I remember someone posting a couple months ago that the fabled weapon was then bugged and was draining the monk's endurance who was using it (then transferring it to the defensive target), I'd look it up but I thought it was you who had said it.
Do you know if they fixed this yet?

The proc from the 5th set piece does look like the fists of celerity icon ya, but now that you mention it, I don't remember actually seeing it this week... I'll double check, but maybe they broke the icon >.<. It definiitely is still proccing though, agree.
Edit: Nahh the icon is appearing fine, i saw it 5/5 procs just now.. Shows how much I pay attention

My buff window might have run off the screen (even with widescreen and reduced size it fills up pretty quick in our raids), thanks for the info though.
Took me 7 months to get my 5th set piece, but it was definitely worth the wait my dps went up 1.5k on longer fights.

We all knew monks were destined for nerfage. It seems to me the real problems are in the buffs not the class. So the far the changes aren't too severe, except for the secrets proc rate. This change will help to kill the monks ability to single pull, especailly at lower levels. As secrets of ice was the only way to modify the rate at which the mobs return to there spawn points. The rest will lower DPS soemwhat. More then likely we will get another Barrage of nerfs, if in fact they want monks doing ranger like damage.

In my opinion monks are destroying themselves with this patch, I am not liking where it is heading at all. The more they listen to us the less I like about these changes.
It isn't that I'm worried about my dps, or even my spot in the raid but in my opinion if monk wasn't already easy mode it soon will be.
Good bye crazy drunken dps, and in fact all gaps between monks of different experience/gear, and welcome to a one track class with even less complexity than it had before. The gap will now be between those with finger(s) and those who have to mash the keyboard with their face. We had our chance to make the class interesting and we moaned about a 10 second timer on our best non chain ability (arguably best ability.) now we are gonna be stuck with the same abilities, the same routines, the same order you use them even but slowed down since it was way too hectic before
and with one hand tied behind our back to make sure we don't accidentally embarrass one of the other classes.
Even gear diversity that separated us from other melee and made our class and gear progression a unique one will suffer from this change if things stay the way they are on test.
I suppose the dev's couldn't find a balance between those of who do good dps, and those of us who have no clue how to play our class so they nerfed us all and made it real simple for us. How to play monk by the numbers:
Secret of flames, stack self buffs with big chains (like always) and ashen fist (if you can afford it), otherwise spam your other chains and your non cool downs or endurance until you have enough jin for ashen hand. Wow how imaginative, its only how I played monk for the past year and a half except now I have less tools and resources to manage.
On the plus side I will be able to play my boxed shaman on raids more efficiently since I could play monk with my foot...

Must say I liked the Ashen Hand on the cool down alot more then this new worthless Ashen hand. But atleast this will make Secrets of Transcendence decent, unless the 5% damage is a 50% chance aswell. I am begining to wonder if they have even done any monk testing for solo/group. These changes are gonna wreck that playing field. We all know the real problem with monk dps has to do with raid buffs and 1000 fists. If you look at rogues rangers and monks, on raids they all were parsing alot higher then casters. Rangers held back alot by agro management, not damage potential.
Fix the buffs, the classes aren't the problem.

I think if you step back and look at the damage over a 2 minute fight, you would prefer the ashen hand at instant reuse 200% dmg over the 10s reuse 300% dmg.
Its literally the difference between 60 hits for 200% or 13 hits for 300%... (assuming you have infinite jin, aka disciple feeding you jin). Theres just no contest.
As for transcendence, i sent avair an email asking if it can be made a perm secret like fire/ice along with the bug list i made here with yalls feedback/input. Not sure what (if any) will be fixed, but it was worth a shot

That is what I want, I don't like spamming the same ability 60 times in one fight, or having 4 hotbars filled with variations of the same 6 abilities.
I don't "prefer" it just so I can do more damage, here I thought we were getting a nerf. If they don't get it from ashen hand where are they going to get it?
Extending the timer on thousand fists, and removing the timer on Ashen Hand means we are simply going to be spamming flying kick more often, that is the change to our playstyle this patch brings.
Does it do ANYTHING for dragons? No. Does it make drunken less OP, slightly yes, it certainly makes it easier to play.
Ashen hand on a timer would have made this class 10x more interesting to play, I'm still waiting for you to explain to me how the 10 second reduction even affects lower level players (cause I think 6 jin hurts them more than 4 jin and 10 sec refresh).
This update is pathetic, also making transcendence a perma buff is another horrible idea. They should reduce its cost or make it MORE effective so that people would use it to soak up jin (both enabling it, and then enabling flames again once it is down).
Monk dps was already on a fixed track before this patch, with increased jin costs and a longer thousand fist it will just be worse.
Way to make the class slow and mindless. (not the devs but the monks who whined about a 10 second timer on our biggest non chain attack, you know who you are. Here is hoping Avair blocks all of your email addresses so you can stop ruining the class). Now that I have my 5 set bonus I have even less respect for other high end raiding monks who have for months poisoned the dev's and these boards with their... well I suppose its just sheer stupidity since this class was one of the easiest to play before the patch and after will most certainly be the easiest for anyone to hit the ceiling with.
I don't know what drives you, do you need to multi task during raids so you are looking for a simpler class? I mean hell you are already dps with a full aggro wipe, and a pretty straightforward damage routine how much easier do you need them to make it for you? Or are you really just doing it for all the "lower level monks". I leveled monk when it was the bottom of the barrel, only it wasn't even that bad then. You know what if I had a timer on ashen hand I would have worked with it just fine, it certainly would have made the class I enjoyed even back them more complex.
Oh btw I was under the impression jin bonds were going away with GU6, I sure hope so maybe then you will change your mind.

just to list a couple of positive changes so far.
Jin surge was reduced in damge but extended to 10seconds or 3 hits whichever comes first. So in a high DPS group this is actually a viable skill now as the group members have enough reaction time to take advantage of the buff.
Dragon monks DPS stance huge mit penalty was reduced, the current levels are IIRC 7/5/3% penalty's instead of the old values of which I don't recall but I do know 3rd level was 10% mit reduction. So they took away 7% of the mitigation penalty on that stance, which is really nice IMO we all have heard that complaint that comparitvely speaking the 2% more damage did not justify the 10% mit penalty.
Also iron fists was changed to add 104 INT as well and is now called iron resolve. It does not stack with other INT buffs but iirc it is the highest of all INT buffs so it will overwrite the others. This will really help group/solo play as they do not always have an INT buff of this magnitude available to them.
Just a comment also on ashen hand, this timer was removed most likely due to it was causing monks to just sit at max jin until ashen hand timer popped then rinse repeat, made the calss feel really odd to play. So now with the timer removed if you have the jin and wish to spend it on ahsen hand then you have the freedom to spam it for a quick burn if needed.
Another change I have not seen listed and also I have not confiremed anyway but I do think is in place is Secrets have moved to 25% proc rate from 50%.. I THINK.. don't quote me on that one
also FYI my last few parses put me in the high 4k range roughly 4500-5000 on test with raid buffs, if the numbers we have been seeing thrown around that they wanted us somwhere under 5k is accurate then I do not expect to many more changes.
All in all I am happy with the changes, the fact that they are addressing some of the lackluster abilties as well is nice, it shows to me they are taking this time to actually evaluate the class rather than just a straight nerf. Basically it almost seems as a small revamp for us which we have been asking for a change to some of these lesser abilites for some time now.
Edited for spelling as well as copying to crosspost onto main forums.
