So I was sitting there bored tonight since we aren't raiding, and I hurt my knee so I am currently bound to my apartment for the rest of the week so I thought I would take a look at Feign Death, mainly in APW by testing the fail rate, with the plan on seeing what if anything affects it's success rate (including if dalkain's rings really work).  Even if all these numbers change during an engaged mob with all sorts of debuffs and dots on them, it still applies to what I do since I spend a lot of time FD'ing around by myself.

The Test

First I feign deathed in the gnome city 100 times, first without Dalkain's rings.  Then again with Dalkain's rings on.

The results were:

w/dalkain's:3 fails/ 100 Feign Deaths
w/o dalkain's: 3 fails/ 100 FD

Then I decided to test it in combat, to do this I used 20m ranged shuriken to engage apw mobs so that they would be within melee range and swing on me before I would be able to fd, I faced them and did not use any buffs or evasion skills.

First I tested against the Cartheon Bonebreaker near hub:

w/dalkain's: (haven't tested yet)
w/o dalkain's: 17 fails/ 100 FD's

Then against the Cartheon blackhammer and dark night:

w/dalkain's: (haven't tested yet)
w/o dalkain's: 21 fails/100 FD's

I got interrupted when I decided I would go help a friend level rather than waste time "experimenting" on something someone designed and plenty of people probably already knows the answer to.  I'm sure I will get bored again and do more tests.  Overall I think it is about what I expected though, I failed ~1/5th of the time.  Seems like a good number to me.

FD is always frustrating when it fails, but I really like the way it works currently, and the way split pulling currently works and I personally would not like to see it changed .  I didn't notice anything wrong with it as dragon, not saying there isn't a bug for aggro with dots, but its kind of hard to test since, even if it is only putting you back on hate list after the next tic and still wiping your hate initially when soloing you would still get aggro all the same.  I hope someone can test it though, so that they can fix the bug if there is one without messing up Feign Death for the rest of us.

Yeh the fail rate isn't too harsh, sometimes if you're unlucky you can get 4-8 fails in a row.

There is that other Fd bug though, that occurs in various places including VT, graystone, storehouse (room behind zaraax spawn loc), nusibe, flordiel etc etc

The bug is that you don't drop aggro even on a successful FD. I'm sure many have run into this.

First time i really noticed it was soloing the shurikens quest in VT. Seems to be very positional (ie move a few meters and you can get a real successful fd) or maybe time based (depends on if the mobs are casting maybe).
Affects disc/nec fd too.

Pretty sure the bug you're refering to Simonson is due to Z-axis pathing errors with the mobs. Happens all the time in Old Targ.

As far as the Dragon bug goes, I'm trying to get some time with a dev in hopes they can parse the hate through feigns in different scenario's.

some numbers i remember from qtm:
base fd is 95% (nothing engaged) or vs an even con mob.... check you got about 97% so thats spot on

You lose 5% per level over you: Check.  That means vs a 53 you lose 15% and go from 95% to 80%.... and thats exactly what you got.

I think you will be hard pressed to observe a difference with the ring on unless you have 2 of them.

Overall, glad you did it, doubt it will do much for the complainers about generic fd fails but at least we know its working as intended as long as your not in an area with bad z axis (old targ and NN come to mind)

This may sound silly, but I am here to admit it like a man with a shotgun pointed at his ead  idiot2

I thought FD fails when mobs starts hitting you, where you know it failed! As with EQ1.

After seeing this post, it was the light to my knowledge!

Iornic, I know.

Now, the only thing left would be to script something that when "No one seems..etc" is shown, your FD icon flashes or the whole screen gets a big FAILED pop!  Given the fact on many raid, computers fails to act normal... 3D lag issues...  Latancey delays...

I'll train my eye on that line from now on!
