Monk Discussion / Monk Tactics & Techniques / Re: Goading Slap as a pulling-tool?

I know this is an old thread but just thought I'd post anyway. As a 39 Pally I have attacks that add 250 hate, its technically not much, but these attacks (8 sec recast) are all I have for actual aggro, and using them both once on an extra mob usually keeps it locked on me for a decent amount of time.
While Goading slap may appear to be fairly useless due to the actual hate it gives, against one mob it is worthless, however, it can be useful with multiple mobs-everyone is focused on one mob which means the slap would do nothing to help the tank, but this means the other mobs have no hate being added to them, which means only the healers heal is building aggro, Goading Slap used on a mob that isnt being attacked actually delays the time it takes for the healer to grab aggro, and judging by the hatred my Pally skills give (not much) I would say its likely quite effective.
I suggest having a tank pull three mobs and have him focus on one with your group and then use your slap on the tank while targetting one of the adds, and see how long it takes before the healer gets aggro from the other add compared to how long it takes before the slapped one also aggros the healer.

I did celestial ward with my Pally, actually I kinda did it-t was too boring to get all the faction and the gear wasn't good enough to justify doing it (mainly because CW heavy armour looked crap) but for my monk I will definately try do it for the throwing weapon.
For younger monks, I'd go Hunters League quests on Qalia, that should do until you are high enough for Celestial Ward
Im a human monk so skill choice is easy-i put 5 in Dex and Str, no need to pick and choose. Also have 4 spare points for Con. The downside to this is I cant get my str as high as say an orc

Thanks. Im guessing the 10% acuracy is too harsh a penalty to use this stance for anything other than tanking (seems good against multiple mobs due to the damage part too)
Hate isn't an issue especially with jeering kick, but the loss of mitigation from means that offensive stance is painful, but definately worth using when soloing? Would you spend more time in offensive or the middle stance when soloing or in a small group?

Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Monk VS Rogue VS Ranger

'd like to point ot that Rangers only really use Crit shot, finishers and poison arrow. Rangers endurance does not recharge while shooting a bow, so they either have to stop using it to regain or have lots of regen items (which when its fixed will not be so effective).
I have to admit, Ranger seems far better than the monk, I play both (I play a rogue to but dont enjoy the class), now, Im a very young monk at 15 so I know things change later, but as it stands, my ranger was doing better damage than my monk at same lvl, the bow is nothing more than an opener and kiting tool, in terms of fights the rangers damage comes from melee.
Our ignore pain is insultingly bad, there is no reason for this not to be improved-its recast should be significantly reduced and its health should be significantly increased, perhaps as a % of our health not a set number. Ranger heal is weak but a fast recast and can be cast on anyone, our Ignore Pain is self only, ridiculous recast as well as being weak

Great posts Fuj, but I was wondering, when were you last a drunken, because I just became one yesterday (my baby lvl 15 monk) and my offensive stance gives only 12% damage, not 22%. Also, if soloing or duoing, what stance would you recomend to be in? Should I always be in offensive and only go in to the defensive (+5% dodge, +5% parry but -10% Accuracy) if Im having to tank multiple mobs? Is the middle one worth using?
