Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: solo

I play a harmonious monk, I started as a Drunken, but by lvl 17 I switched-pre revamp harmonious was easier to solo with, post revamp its even better. Solong lizards for hunters League quest was doable, I was a few lvls higher but I could take on 2 3 dot mobs at the same time, though left low health. I went Kojani human monk and the 45% heal does help, though I should have gone Qalian for the 10 seconds immunity

I find it interesting that shammy gets such a powerful skill. My Warrior just got Grim Determination, it costs energy and has a 60 second recast timer...you know what it does? For the next 6 hits on me i heal for, get this, 78 points of health....at 20 that barely even covers a 2 dot mobs hit, thats their answer to the Pally heals and DK self heals?!

wait till ya get hit by a sky pirate or 2 Merc Slash FTL
Lol yeah they suck....even hit through 100% dodge disc I bugreported that tho.... Thank god for protection of the sands So do we know for a fact that INT does increase secret dmg? Ive seen some screenshots of monk armor from apw beta and it has a nice INT bonus on it....dont know if this changed tho.. Yes Int does increase damage, at 26 it isn't a big increase, but if it works anything like con then by 50 I think the extra Int will be more significant

jin surge is of use? I thought it boosted one attack by a bit of damage At 27 I think its like 185 damage extra? The way i saw it the jin wasted on it could be used on Ashen Hand. Or have I misread it

The issue is not the fact that Harmonious dot is superior, it is after all just one attack. The problem is, as Fuj has shown, the rest of the Dragons repetoire does not have the damage they should, to the extent that they don't even make up for the one Harmonious attack. Though Im not sure why the Dragons dot is so weak-1800 over 16 seconds isn't exactly mass damage, in fact 6k in 32 seconds is not exactly all that powerful in the grand scheme of things, so the Dragon dot being so weak is certainly strange

Aye thats the spot, Sleeping moon. You may find that when you nerve strike and FD, the other two instead of going back will just linger around their buddy until the guy is no longer stunned. Certainly lulling doesn't break the link, it will be interesting to see if FD does

So the strikethough would basically be 'ignore X% of targets mitigation'. So, where the Harmonious uses an attack to put a temporary mitigation debuff on the mob that all can use, the Dragon is buffed to ignore a larger % on any mob he attacks-a mob with 60% mit would only be say 40% against a dragon monk?

Harmonious defensive stance is not so great lower lvl due to the damage decrease, but at 50 probably much better-until then you are stuck with either losing damage to defend or using the middle stance that gives you nothing. all the stances need to be looked at.
Harmonious has only one real damage skill and thats the dot (Again Im talkin the lower lvls up to 30) but even at 50, in terms of damaging skills the Harmonoius gets basically that dot and the finishers. The fact its competing with Dragon is not an error with Harmonious, its that Dragon is simply underpowered-considering the offensive stance gives a 24% boost to damage menas the Dragon overall should be doing much more damage when including his skills, but currently the dragon is screwed with a bunch of crappy ae attacks which are limited use at the best of times and not exactly huge damage, and a lack of decent single target attacks-as a Harmonious monk I like my defensive ability and debuffs, and these should make up for the fact Im not doing as much damage as the Dragon and should be the reason I can still kill 3 dot mobs, but the Dragon lacks these debuffs and it should his raw damage that allows him to defeat 3 dot mobs.
On another note, Deadly Adder Hand...does it definately still debuff str? Im sure I read it the other day and had no mention of debuffing

Well, I dound the bloodhowlers were linked-not in the extreme and annoying way of EQ2, but still linked-Ihaven't split with my monk, but I know my Pally would pacify one of the 2 that walk together and I would pull the other, the one I pulled would run towards me (off its usual patrolling path) and the other, though lulled would follow, not running, walking calmly and keep following his partner until the lull eventually wore off and then he attacked

I certainly wasn't upset, just wnated to let you know from my experience as a pally that 3 dots should be no issue fighting, so if it is then likely some tactics or gear needs adjusting. As for a which class is better debate, well I'd be useless in that-I play a Pally War DK Monk and Ranger and while tanks are my favorite clss type, I still can't decide which i think is best

As someone who plays a Pally and a monk I can say my Pally has had no more difficulty killing than my harmonious monk-admittedly more slowly, but after fighting 2 3dot mobs on my monk I need to let my health regen, meanwhile my Pally can move on to the next fight...of course my pally kills very slowly so even moving straight to the next fight its probably still slower than the monk killing resting and moving to next fight. Certainly on Skawlra rock against the lizards my Pally was able to take on 3 3 dots with about a 40% chance of living whereas my monk had to FD after killling the first. As a side note, once in your teens, your pally should never be unable to kill a 3 dot mob solo as long as it is within a lvl or 2 of you. Also my pally can much more reliably kill a 4 dot mob than my Harm monk can-the monk heavily relies on my counter attack after a parry to decrease the damage, but that only lasts 8 seconds and despite a high parry % its unpredictable-some fights I can barely get a normal attack off as my counter is constantly up and then I can go in a fight and see my counter once throughout the whole fight. But fighting with the Pally solo is so very boring, whereas monk fighting rocks

Once FD is sorted you may be able to control the pace of a group, but currently I control most things in a group on my pally and my DK whereas my monk just hits stuff
As for stats, I've gone Int for soloing and duoing and in group as damage is what Im there for.
I don't understand if con is based on lvl or as you reach a certain number you get more per point, but at 26 I get 2hp a pont of con and my pally at lvl 39 gets 3 points per con, possibly 4 (cant remember exactly which). I assumed by 50 a con point would give 5hp which means 80 con would only give 400hp may be it turns out more, but currently from my lvl 39 pally I dont see con giving a boost of 1500hp in 80 points

My current issue with the Harmonious monk stances are that they dont give much option, especially at lower lvl-at 26 the offensive stance has such a high endurance cost that its not really a stance I can use, the middle stance does absolutely nothing, a very useless and unnoticable jin regen, the defensive stance is fine, it gives avoidance and decreases end but also decreases damage as a counter to this, the problem is this means I end up having to sit in the 'nothing' stance during most fights, seems odd for any class to have a stance that essentially offers nothing.

Harmonious gets my vote, I was a Drunken awhile back but found soloing a struggle and became harmonious, it made things easier, and then the GU3 updates came in and Harmonious got better. at 26 I have a 50/50 chance of killing 4 dot lvl 23 Sappers at Skawlra rock, the fact I can kill a 4 dot at all that still gives xp impressed me. 3 dots are good to consistently solo now.
Against 4 dot mobs I use defensive stance and martial sword as Parry is the key to success-the counter attack that reduces mobs damage is essential, if I have an unlucky fight where it almost never lights up (rare but at 25% Parry you'd expect it to occur all the time). It means I do less damage due to not using a stronge weapon, though as it happens the m.s is a better weapon than the rest I have so not too much DPS is lost.
Against 3 dots if they are a few lvls lower I will go max DPS weapon and usually my neutral stance, closer to my lvl I mix n match until I find a combo that works best-maybe high DPS weapon in def stance, or m.s. with neutral stance, maybe high DPS and neutral stance or maybe even m.s and def stance
