Also be aware of a bug that messes up your chain/reactoin hotbar when you chant the Aum.  I dont know if this happens to everyone but I have to relog every time I use it to get the bar to reset.  Grats on your new skills
2  Monk Discussion / Monk Quests / Re: Style quest on: June 21, 2007, 07:30:22 AM
I m playing an orc monk from Kojan, but since my guild is on Thestra I moved there early. From lvl 10 to 16 I ve been using the monk trainer at Veskals exchange. I ve heard that I should choose style at lvl 15 but havn t got any quest from the trainer. But it seems like I m learning skills from all disciplines. Is it possbile to gett skills from all the styles if I chose a path? And how should I do choose a style?

As said above head to the khal trainer.  As far as your normal skils yes some of them will say dragon or drunken etc .. but after you chose a style you will be able to use Aum to learn Special skills that are applicable only to the style you chose.  You get new ones every couple of levels just like regular spells so make sure and use the aum you get after finishing the style quest every couple levels.
3  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Drane's armor quests? on: June 07, 2007, 05:32:29 AM
While Drane's armor is good, don't get me wrong...I went through the painful faction grind in Celestine Ward for 12 levels to not only get the faction but ALL of the pieces of my gear. I would personally recommend doing the Arena in Qualia and getting gear that way till you hit 50 and can get your gear from Rahz Inkur.

I wore the Drane's armor up to that point so don't get me wrong it is good, but it is such a pain I wish I would have skipped it. The only thing I may recommend there would be to get max faction (maybe get a sorc and healer buddy to team up and aoe the bloodhowlers) and get the shurikens. However, you don't really need to upgrade them either, they give a lil more range than any other shuriken out there, but the damage is still busted and has been since beta. It reads it should be doing 1469-1469 dmg, but they really only do about 500 avg on a mob right now. Given if you get a legendary hit it does good damage, its just not really worth the grind.

If you have questions about the CW info, I'll be glad to help, but like I said, I recommend elsewhere. It is really just a long grind for items that are easily replaced or that you can even get comprable drops rather quickly.

So where should a new lvl 30 go for exp and armor upgrades if not wardship ?  The Arena ?  I thought if you start wardhip at lvl 30 and gain levels while you do faction etc you would end up with armor and lvl 40?  Is there a better plan ?

Good Post.  I would love to see some duel wield fighting sticks and Sai's the animations for the sai looked great too.
5  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Monk concept. on: May 29, 2007, 07:11:21 AM
Don’t we have 3 mastery styles for a reason?

People want to be crappy tanks they should have to choose drunken style which should have skill sets that allow them to do that.

No way should the crappy tank style do as much DPS and the Crappy DPS style lets call this one Dragon .. this style should do the most dps and have the least utility.. its all about the crappy dps here.  We can lose the crappy AE crap as well. Just focus on DPS.

Then we could have a crappy debuff style hmm lets call this one harmonious, this one does decent crappy dps once it has its debuffs on heck we could even give this style some crappy group utility, but this style still wont do as much dps as the crappy dps style.

Now just make all these styles NOT crappy.  smitten

Ok I see what your saying now.  Not sure that will make us desirable or needed but it would atleast be something.
7  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Monk Wish List on: May 23, 2007, 07:10:26 AM
My single and only wish, and truly I don't even care how it is accomplished is this: To be a class that brings the best of something, or has a unique ability that is needed to a group, even if only in special circumstances.

[...]

2. Specialization!!! You NEED a rogue to picklock, you NEED a ranger to track, you NEED a bard to pull, you need Monks for nothing except random DPS you can get anywhere.
- We are martial artists, let us do more damage to humanoids, I don’t know how to Kung Fu a bear.
- Feign Death specialization – Bards pull faster, monks pull the tougher stuff.

3. Make us the defensive version of bards.
- Extend certain Harmonious or Drunken ablities to group members. Possibly make Dragon a bard lite of sorts, seeing as how we are light or super light versions of everything else we do. Would even out seeing as how bards with their group damage increase probably do more damage then us if you factor in the extra damage group members do, and that we are aren’t near Rogues for damage.

[...]

5. Definitely agree with making Mend % based for pure fact of scalability. Gonna become useless once gears starts getting better.

I think the vision was to make all classes within a group equal at their job. What should make us stand out is flavor and utility. I like Styffler's post.

I've been thinking in the line of Redirection beeing our thing. Goading Slap and Waning Palm is already there, but refresh timers and low numbers has made me amost forget about them. Beef them up!

We would work a bit like the main tank's little helper. Along with FD we bring safety to the group and to the healer particularly.

I totally agree with Mend needing a revamp and I would like to see us have a nitch in the game other than saving the groups ass on a wipe, but I never ever ever want to be an avoidance tank or light tank or a tanks little helper.  Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are trying to say but in my opinion, let the other defensive players be tanks little helpers.

I went through that crap in eq2 with SOE.  The concept of the avoidance tank was great but it never worked right, we were always 3rd rate tanks with decent DPS and soon it was just the DPS that mattered.  The only thing SOE did right was make content that required monks and bruisers to tank, that at least allowed us to shine on certain fights.

For VG id like to see some group utility maybe in the form of 1 min buffs that only get applied after a finisher, and make jin surge last for atleast 6 seconds, higher base dps, and as mentioned before lower the timer on mend and make it %based.

EDIT: Ok since this is a wish list I guess I should mention I would like to see better stances (more meaningful)  Right now as far as the dragon stances are concerned they are pretty weak imo.

Ok ill shut up now  uglystupid2

8  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: New Monk on: May 01, 2007, 09:12:43 AM
I am still a relatively new monk just made 22.  At level 15 you get to choose which mastery style of monk you want to become .. Dragon, Harmonious, or Drunken.  I chose Drunken style at first, but did not feel it was for me.. I solo alot and did not feel drunken was the best for that.

I went ahead and did the quests to re choose my style and went with Dragon style I have been dragon from only 19 to 22 but I am enjoying it better.  I have not tried the Harm style yet but many say it is good also.

Another weapon option you might want to check into is Martial Swords.  I am personally keeping my skills up in h2h, bladestaff, staff and martial sword.  So I can use whatever is best that I have available.

Our animations where just updated and they actually look pretty good with all the diff weps.   As it stands right now most of the h2h weps don’t have any graphics, so ulaks and claws just look like bare hands.  I hope this will change some day.

These are just my newb opinions and you know the saying about opinions.
9  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Dragon Stance request! on: May 01, 2007, 08:54:52 AM
I dont see it happening but I would love to see it.. maybe only have the increas work while meditating /shrug
10  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Newb question about what style is best for solo Play on: May 01, 2007, 08:52:01 AM
Well I switched to Dragon over the weekend and so far I like it much better than drunken.   The DPS stance rocks.  The Heal stance cuts down on downtime.  I have not even used stone dragon yet so dont really have an oppinion on it.

I would still like to give Harm a try and I will probably do that this comming up weekend if i get bored.
11  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Newb question about what style is best for solo Play on: April 27, 2007, 06:28:04 AM
I am currently a lvl 19 almost 20 Drunken style monk.  I am contemplating switching to Dragons style this weekend to give it a try.

My question is for these low levels what in your opinions is the best style for solo play.  Sometimes I duo with a Psi buddy but mostly I solo and I enjoy it

As an example at level 18 with all of my new skills, minus the drunken style one (I forgot to use Aum  uglystupid2 ) I was unable to beat a level 13 4 dot named mob.. I tried every stance and every wep I had good skill in as well as h2h.

Anyway I will probably give Harm and Dragon a try this weekend, was just wonder what the overall opinion is.  Thanks.

Thank you much
13  Monk Discussion / Monk General / How would I go about changed from Drunken to Dragon ? on: April 26, 2007, 09:38:10 AM
Title pretty much says it.  I have read in a couple threads of ppl changing from the diff mastery styles.  How would I go about doing it.  Thanks
14  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: So when are monk stances having the penalties removed ? on: April 25, 2007, 07:15:53 AM
My main was a war I only got him to 27 before giving up and going on an alt spree trying to find something I enjoyed playing as much as my bruiser in eq2.  I finally decided to just stick with the monk for a while since they cant let us suck forever and I cant see how they could make them any worse..  I chose drunken mastery but I am thinking I should switch to dragon and see if its any better because this half ass stuff just aint cutting it for me.  Its sad that my war at lower levels 15-25 ish soloed much better than my monk.

Anyway the removal of the penalties from our stances was just a pipe dream..  Angry
15  Monk Discussion / Monk General / So when are monk stances having the penalties removed ? on: April 24, 2007, 12:21:56 PM
A change headed to test
Quote
- Protective Fighters - All penalties have been removed from your stances.

I see no reason why this should not trickle down to us as well.
