16  Monk Discussion / Monk Tactics & Techniques / Re: Stats for Increased Crits? on: September 02, 2007, 12:55:47 PM
Listen to Fuji, he's spot on. End game, the +Crit gear really helps our crit chances out a lot and a monk with more DEX then strength end game is likely underpowered because some of the DEX will go to waste. Monks need strength as their primary, dex as secondary, then CON or VIT last (you really have to invest a lot of points into CON to see the difference, though)

Since you're on Xeth, you won't have trouble finding +CRIT gear. I would suggest talking to Basic, he has fair prices and can make T5 crafted gear with pain crystals (+crit) on the fly.

Great to see another monk on Xeth!

17  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Re: Looking for Opinions HP vs Dodge % on: August 08, 2007, 04:31:02 PM

So to answer your question.  Dodge/block is what monks do. Its thier claim to fame so to speak.  But at the same time you must conserve enough hps to be able to withstand the "steaks"

hope that helped.

To my understand, monk's dont even have a block trait.... Just dodge and parry....

I'd say Dodge, since it's more consistant to our class traits and special moves
18  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Looking for community input on P.E.H. chain on: August 03, 2007, 02:39:52 PM
I wouldnt confuse them by throwing too many requested changes at them, or they might just ignore it altogether. Keep it a simple DPS increase with prehaps a DOT that could hit (nice idea) and it would kick some serious ass.
19  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Looking for community input on P.E.H. chain on: August 02, 2007, 07:53:04 PM
Like the title says, with upcoming changes P.E.H. really needs to be addressed soon
currently looking for it to Keep the current 3 step attack dealing the majority of the damage at the end

  • 3 finger Strike: add staggered, and small snare (gasping for breath and all)
  • Hammer Strike: Decent Duration Stun
  • P.E.H.: Hit for a healthy amount, melee damage + 5K  (Still on the fence about trying to convert this into a % based attack though)

looking for feedback.

~QTM

I agree with these changes. It would be nice to finally be able to enjoy these end-game attacks, instead of using it when there is nothing better ready to execute. Even if we could get Melee DMG + 5000K, the skill would be twice as useful as it is now, making it acceptable. 3 Finger strike and hammer strike should definitely have a chance to exploit the mob in some way more so then other attacks, as the idea of the attack is exploiting the enemy in an attempt to "explode the heart"

Bottomline: These changes would bring us much closer to RANGERS and ROGUES end game DPS. Our end game chain is NOT powerful enough to justify using over the other moves we gain in earlier levels.
20  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Undocumented changes in GU 2 on: August 02, 2007, 12:30:45 PM
Hey, i'll take anything! Sounds like some need changes, thats for sure...

I never use secret of trans for obvious reasons, and iron hand just gets annoying with the 5 min timer.

Question:

What exactly do you mean by (Proc for very low damage) on Dragon Stance?

Are they increasing the DPS on this Stance? Are they fixing the Mitigation bug on it?

Also, any word if they are going to fix palm explodes the heart? Maybe make it Melee Damage + 3000 or something? It's kinda useless.

Thanks for the info quinn, you rock!
21  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Ignore Pain on: July 31, 2007, 12:52:10 PM
Not sure how we can compare ourselves to dread knights.  Does not really make sense.  Increasing the ignore pain effectiveness is really low on my priority list.  However, I do get a bit upset when I realize that rangers can heal themselves all the time and bards get a mask with a 1200hp heal which can be used much more frequently than ignore pain.  Still boggles my mind how a class that gets a heal, snare, massive range dmg, root, and charm can justify having significantly more damage than us.  Screw ignore pain, I want more dps.  And I want FD to work as intended.  I want monks to have a purpose, and increasing ignore pain doesn't get us there.

Yup, I agree with this. My monk gets destroyed pretty bad by rangers on the parsar's, and there isn't much more I can do other then wait for my Hand of God King's next level to catch up, but I know that isn't going to do it.

Monks are average, but if you're going to put together a group you'll likely pass one up for a bard or ranger if you can because they just bring more to the group.  Rangers, well, it's just plain not fair. They have us beat in groups and out of groups. They are an all around better choice in every possible way.

23  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: large, disturbing, vanguard update on: July 26, 2007, 01:30:56 PM
well just as history has shown us, it's typcial for Sony to make new changes and completely revamp a potentially killer game while ignoring the real issues, eventually killing the game, and causing people to quit and pray for a new MMO to hit the market...

and what's worse, they always target the most unique part of a game that keeps the diehard fans happy.... and slowly but surely remove what originally made the community interested in the first place....

I hope Sony get out of the MMORPG business completely.

I also hope AOC doesn't fail us  knuppel2
24  Monk Discussion / Monk General / large, disturbing, vanguard update on: July 26, 2007, 09:57:51 AM
So they are turning vanguard, slowly, but surely, into a WOW wannabe clone...

http://vgplayers.station.sony.com/newsArchive.vm?id=191&section=News

 tickedoff

So first off they made every single item bind on equip. Making every single item bind on equip sucks and all, but to top it off there will be a lot of angry crafters who lvl'ed up so they could decon high lvl weapons who will now have the same ability as a lvl 1 adventure with access to a general goods vendor.

And what's up with them nuking equipment expertise? like come-on. apparently vanguard is too confusing with the simply % system that shows what items you can and can't use, so sony is making it 10 year old compliant and you can only use gear within 5 lvl's of your own.

Last but not least, the resting system is basically exactly like WOW. hah... Resting is lame... what can ya do.

So now there will be a lot of people who won't be able to use the current gear they are now happy with, and everything they've looted will now become bind on equip. Deconing is a useless crafting skill, and vanguard will turn into... something.... who knows...

Nice Job Sony...
25  Monk Discussion / Monk Tactics & Techniques / Re: Choice of weapon type on: July 25, 2007, 12:56:08 PM
Hand to Hand weapons (Claw / Ulak / Handwraps / Knucles will carry + 5% / 2.5% to crit main hand /  offhand.
Martial Swords will give a bonus to parry
Martial Staff / Bladestaff will grant double damage on a crit.

My personal play style has me using Claws for the + to crit then macroing weapon changes so I use the blade staff / martial staff during special move chains.  After the chain is over I switch back to claws.

~QTM

That's a pretty cool idea, never thought of that...

I've been told by monks lvl 46+ that a bladed staff will do the most all around DPS end game.
(especially if the get the flawless parish's bladed staff of devestation)

I would say for a single weapon choice, bladed staff is the way to go lvl 46+, as well as endurance regen gear (for spamming specials like a madman along with the lvl 50 aum)

Any thoughts?
26  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / cragwind 2handed Weapon on: July 25, 2007, 12:43:47 PM
I heard this particular 2 handed bladed staff will outdamage or even come close to a Hand of the God king but also has the endurance regen which is key for us monks. I realize there is a nice grind involved (something about 500 shards) to get this weapon though. I've heard its much better then the graystone rewards as well.

Anybody have some information on how I can obtain this weapon for my almost lvl 40 monk? Ive been having trouble finding information on this. Any help would be appreciated, my monk is getting out DPS'd by rangers left and right I want to try to even it up a little  knuppel2
27  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Re: Sun Strike of Vol Anari on: July 17, 2007, 11:57:26 AM
whats the point of doing a difficult faction quest for an item that you can only use like.... say.... 100 times?

I'm assuming you dont get a life long supply of them. sounds liek a lot of work for nothing
28  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Quinn: Any info you can give us on status of the monks/plans etc. on: July 04, 2007, 07:40:24 PM
Quick Question, Did I read on this board that Special Attacks interupt your normal melee? The reason I ask, if it does is that an issue or how it is suposse to be?

Using a special attack resets your auto attack timer. If you use hand to hand weapons and get your delay below 2 that won't be an issue as you will get your auto attack in between special moves. For all other weapons that is the case.

~QTM

Quinn, is there any actual way to check your delay in game? Granted, you can check the delay on your weapon, but an overall delay after equipping +melee haste gear so you can figure out if your delay is below 2.
29  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Re: +Critical Melee Hit Chance Question / how it stacks up on: June 28, 2007, 06:38:22 PM
hmmm... nm
I read down the page and QUINN already answered this same question in another post.

Althuogh, it would be nice to get a hold of some information on how it stacks up at higher levels  Grin
30  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Re: Advice for an almost 38 Dragon Monk? on: June 28, 2007, 06:36:36 PM
I am 50 and use 2 pantheon claws.  Quinn told me yesterday that a good combo would be Hand of the Godking as primary with the pantheon as an offhand.  Until you can use the Godking I would go with two pantheon weapons.
http://vg-en.curse-gaming.com/database/items/details/1391936/ancient-ksaravi-ulak/

I wish they would combine the handwraps and knuckles skills instead of having 3 hand weapons to increase.  Would be nice to have all hand weapons, martial sword and bladeded staff.  Meh..

If only I could figure out how to finish the pantheon quest line, these would be mine  Anybody know any good sources of info? I also heard the questline is bugged. Ive tried certain quests, and it seems to be the case. This is apparently only since recent patch.
