1  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Looking for community input on P.E.H. chain on: August 03, 2007, 05:36:09 PM

Random thoughts about this as from last night as I sit in RI waiting for my guild;

* P.E.H. You really only should be able to do this 1 time per mob. I mean seriously, how many times can you explode someones heart?
* Should be rediculously devestating 1 time per mob, This could get around the needi for a reuse timer
     * Big Damage: Melee Damage + 5K, perhaps add a big DoT as the target bleeds out??  potentially another 5K in DoT damage.
* I really like the idea of the individual moves parts creating weaknesses for the next part of the chain.

These are awesome ideas.  I really like the dot at the end to.  After taking a pounding like that there should be some sort of internal bleeding going on.
2  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Aums on: July 07, 2007, 09:47:05 PM
I know we have Aum Kor.  I use it as well.  The whole point of my post was to get some sort of communication going here as we seem to be a nearly dead community.
3  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Aums on: July 06, 2007, 11:00:39 PM
Aums are basicly songs right?  Well, more like humming but you get the point.

After 50 levels of grinding why can't we get 1 additional aum?  Something like Aum of the Master.  This aum would give us +40 run speed, -15% endurance cost, -20% refresh rate.

That would be something to hum about.  I know its a pipe dream but hey, Im trying to get some sort of monkly conversation going.

BTW, it blows that bards got another huge fix/update on July 5th and still nothing listed for us.

I think part of the reason you do not see your DPS going up significantly is that our kicks are not affected by weapon damage.  Other than getting gear with %dmg modifier, there is no way to improve that damage.  I would love to see something added to game, maybe a shoe of some sort that would allow us to increase that damage.

QTM - have you heard anything about this age old problem possibly getting fixed?

Also, using two hand-to-hand weapons works better for me (although I'm Dragon, I must admit) at all times than using a two-hander.

This is something I have struggled with as a harmonious monk.  My 1handers are only 44.44 dps and people tell me they should do more overall dps than my Graystone bladestaff.  I am not someone who parses his weapon info but I can tell you that it seems as if I kill much more efficiently when I'm wielding my bladestaff.  Most 2 dots don't stand a chance and I am able to kill 3 dots a lvl or 2 above me if both heals are up and I start with max jin.

Guess I need to get my hands on some rare lvl 50+ 1handers to see the real power of our dps?  I would also like to know how rare 1handers compare to say lvl 50+ rare to heroic 2handers?  (excluding martial swords)

Thanks for the help.  Maybe I will start pushing towards finishing these quests up.
7  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Weapon progression help on: June 22, 2007, 09:30:19 AM
Hello fellow monks.

I'll get get right to it.  My weapons are as follows.

Hand of Rending X 2:  44.44 dps
Graystone bladestaff of purification: 71.38 dps
Some wraps don't remember name: 43.something dps (pretty sure these dropped off a named during purification)

What I'm looking for is the next best weapon upgrade.  I haven't collected enough seering stones to even see the Afrit weapon so don't know if its worth it.  I'm right at the level where people will accept me into Rahz groups although you don't find many pickup groups these days.

If you have a little info please help.

Thanks

Fixing Secret of Transcendence is a possitive but I would really like to know when they are going to start looking into the class as a whole.

How are "we" going to pull in raids when feign death fails 4 - 6 times vs mobs 3 lvls higher than us before we get a success?  That would be one slow moving raid if a guild had to rely on fd in its current state.
10  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Harmonious Issues (2nd may). on: June 01, 2007, 10:23:00 AM
Anyone know which is the correct discription of Crane Style?  My buff icon says +8% to defensive, -10% to damage, and -20% to endurance cost or something like that.  The style selection icons however read something totally different.  It says +20% defensive, -20% damage, and -25% to endurance costs.

Which is it really?    If I had to guess I would say it is the buff icon stats as I don't really dodge/parry that often the few times I have actually tried using crane.  I don't use crane since the read in the wind nerf but I still want to know for sure.

That said, Monks need a serious DPS revamp, compared to other Offensive Fighters, Defensive Fighters, Offensive Casters, and even some Healers they just are not performing.. Ive played a Monk from Beta > Live and honestly the only people around still playing Monks that I know (myself included) do it cause they love the idea of the Class, the current system just isnt doing them justice though- imho.

Nice post Hanzou.

The highlighted portion I really believe explains why the monk community still exists in this game to be honest.  Its also why the community has survived EQ1, EQ2, WoW, etc...

Who doesn't love the idea of being a martial arts based dps class?

I would like to  point out that while I imagine there is much truth to the posts by ex Sigil employee and Nino none of us have the entire story, not only that, those missives were penned when emotions were quite high.  It sounds like there was a whole lot of messed up things at Sigil at the end perhaps some share/deserve more blame than others, but we really don't know what went on there and certainly can't base all our assumptions on one or two posts.  For all we know the ex sigil employee sucked at his job and introduced more bugs than he fixed.  I doubt that to be the case but the point is we don't know. It does seem there was more wrong than right with the company inner workings but with clear direction from above (SOE) I'm hopeful that is in the past.

My brother has a friend who left his job to go work at Sigil.  He moved clear across country to work on this game and got himself, wife, and child screwed because of this.  The guy was not one of the top officials in Sigil by any means but he did have this to say.  He said that everything in the ex-Sigil employee interview was pretty much accurate (including the parking lot firing).  In fact, he said it was so accurate that it had to be from someone above him.
13  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: A telling statistic... on: April 23, 2007, 10:01:27 AM
Hello all,

I have been reading posts on this site since about the beginning of February but haven't made many posts myself.  Recently, I made 40th lvl and I'm relatively close to 41.  Through those 40 lvls I have seen my fair share of uselessness in group situations just as you have.  For instance, my duo partner is a 40 psi.  We kite pretty much anything we can find outdoors.  Now, he tells me it goes MUCH faster with me beating on mobs from behind, but I know (as said above) he can kill anything solo that we have killed together.

Just the other day we invited a 42 ranger to group with us just east of Ahgram where the 4dot minotaurs are.  When we first saw him he was kiting the named mino around and doing more than fine.  I watched the life of the named go down in chunks.  Not that I'm big on class envy or anything but it made me a little sad to see another light melee do so well against such a tough mob and my class is still for the most part incapable of soloing anything worth while.  Now i'm not saying we should be able to solo anything of the sort considering 4 dots have unbelievable hps and hit for 1100ish.  We are not supposed to solo that kind of power.  However,  I do believe we should at the very least be able to solo 3 dots of equal level and that doesn't happen very often.  I have way too much trouble trying to solo any of the 3 dots in the arena for coins.  Yet I can watch many other classes do just that with no problems.

I know my argument was largely about solo ability.  The point is your solo talents remain in tact during group situations.  This means my inability to defeat 3 dot mobs consistently in solo will show through lower dps and utility in groups.

Guess I said all that just to say I agree that we are a broken class who is currently getting no dev attention to fix things.  The nerf bat gets swung at our heads often   knuppel2 and has caused many in our communtiy to start alts.  (self included)

The thing that hurts the most is much like EQ our class has so much potential to be great but the fact we are frontal dps and not situational dps imo scares the hell out of the devs.  Those are my thoughts on our situation.  Hit me back if you agree say you're stupid if you don't.   Smiley

I'm level 29 at the moment.  Is it too early for me to start this quest?  My current ac is an abismal 687 or so (with the TK6 cloak  Sad ) so I could definately use a serious upgrade.

nm I got my answer in this statement by Shengyi.  Its way hard for melee to affect anything greater than 3 levels above you.

[ All mobs are at least 3 dots and since we are so damn gimp we can't solo them unless we're like 3-5 lvls above these mobs.  All mobs are between 34-38 i believe, all 3 dots except for the 4 dot boss mob for part 5. /quote]
