46  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Dragon: alternative suggestions on: February 15, 2008, 04:40:46 PM
LeadFoot, as to your Endurance 'issue": you seem to be forgetting that ALL Dragon attacks (save for gouging/sundering claw) are high endurance attacks, about 40% more costly than regular attacks. Don't believe me? Look at Six Dragon Strike and the cone AE and compare them to Boundless Strike and Whirling Storm, respectively.
In fact, their Endurance cost in ANY stance is about the same as your attacks are in Magnificent Tiger. So technically, Dragons are getting cheated out of using Aum Kor as well. It's not because Dragons don't use them, that that's not the case.
Second, you have considered making a macro to use your mitigation debuff in Eternal Crane, have you not? That takes the issue away, instantly - even with Aum Kor instead of Aum Ti.
Suffice it to say that in the field of Endurance expenditure, Dragons and Harmonious Monks are one and the same. And yes, I've played a Harmonious Monk at max level without Endurance regen gear. I NEVER ran out of Endurance through careful management of my stances and Ashen Hand - Jin is no issue with 3 steps of the Celestial Kick line.

As for solo compared to Rogues:
Since GU 3.2, Rogues have a Bloodlust ability that can be used outside of Stealth, almost as good as Stalking VI, their highest sneaking rank, was before the update. They also have an innate movement impairing immunity, stun resistance and a free 5% crit bonus on their attacks because of Assassin's Mark. And to complete the list, they don't sit at a Sorcerer's mitigation level when going on the offensive. The HP regen doesn't work in combat, so that point is moot.
They take down 2-dots fast (with a stun and then a couple of backstabs), they take down 3-dots at 50-50 odds, so do we Dragons.

As to debuffs versus group buffs: they are the same mountain top, reached by different paths.

Fujitsu: I agree. Stone Dragon would do better with 50% fire/ice and maybe 25% resistance versus other elemental attacks, not physical.

I agree that the Stone Dragon stance might be a bit over the top.

On the other two, I disagree. You have to look at the whole picture. Dragon Monks get:
- Sun Dragon's Corona: negligeable DS effect, 280 fire resist.

Harmonious get (all regardless of stance and can be kept up all the time):
- Diamond Body (30% mitigation bonus on top of ALL other mitigation, including buffs)
- Withering Palm: 10% DPS bonus regardless of stance AND 10% damage debuff on the mob
- North Wind Breaks and Snaps the Trunk: Reverse damage shield that deals a lot of damage in its 20 seconds and another DPS debuff (if I remember correctly).
- Steal the Wind (haste for yourself plus slow for the mob)

Then the following which can't be kept up all the time:
- Find the Center: another 100% dodge move (name could be off)
- the 20 second DS move for 4 Jin.

If you then factor in that Aum Ti reduces Magnificent Tiger to a penalty of just 15%, while maxing crit rate, I doubt very much that these stances would be overpowered - even IF the Secrets of the Dragon were to be included.

The HP regen would still make it only a marginally useful stance. Because, let's face it, 6k at 50 is a low amount of HP. In a raid, you'd be looking at 7.5k at least, making it take longer to regen than it it does to Soaring Leap back to the force and get healed. And yes, your neutral stance could be better, but do you really need it, given your spectrum of abilities that is already very broad? Also, for the purpose of keeping buffs up, I never needed to meditate for Jin when I was running around in the neutral Harmonious stance. I could just click on Iron Fist and any Secret at will. Since the secrets now last forever, you'll just need Iron Fist every hour.

Let me also restate that in no point in time has the mitigation penalty of Storm Dragon stance made sence. Your armor does NOT get worse as you focus more on the offense. Your EVASION gets worse. Anyone having done any kind of hand-to-hand combat, be it sword fighting, boxing or martial arts, will be able to tell you.

Here I am, time at my hands  Grin

On stances:
- Storm Dragon: either haste should be added (typhoons move fast, do they not?) or the +melee dmg should become +damage, as Fujitsu suggested. The mitigation penalty definitely needs to go and be replaced by an evasion penalty.
- Stone Dragon stance: the mitigation bonus sucks. Better to have a rune effect like Ignore Pain gives us, how about 15% of damage taken (at 15, 20% at 30, 25% at 50) and 50% for fire and ice?
- "Neutral" Dragon: how about making this a valid stance for solo? That is, 60 HP regen / 2 secs out of combat per ten levels and half as much in combat:
* level 15-19: 60 / 30
* levels 20-29: 120 / 60
* levels 30-39: 180 / 90
* levels 40-49: 240 / 120
* level 50: 300 / 150
 With 6k HP (a reasonable amount of HP in 3-man groups at 50), it would still take us 40 seconds to regen totally, from being FD at almost no HP at all. In fact, in combat, it would STILL be underpowered considering that a Shaman who can already heal gets Bosrid's gift, exchanging Endurance for a free heal of more at 26 than our neutral stance as a whole at 50. The out of combat regen as suggested above would at least make us low-maintenance DPS, and would give us a higher survival chance on raids when mobs are AEing.

That combined with the Secrets of the Dragon ideas I posted in another thread: http://www.vanguardmonks.com/option,com_smf/Itemid,27/topic,972.0/,
would make me be proud to be Dragon once more.

51  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: I refuse changing style ... on: February 10, 2008, 04:15:30 PM
I don't think they will, seeing as how Shamen recently got a way to change patrons. I reckon they don't want to force people to reroll for something as 'minor' as a style.
52  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: I refuse changing style ... on: February 10, 2008, 11:26:33 AM
I get you. I changed to Harmonious and liked it better - seeing the Harmonious style has at least had fixes. But I changed back. I refused to change styles for a long while, and was curious as to how the other side of the fence was. But Dragon was my first love, and I'm back to it now.
53  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Monk Bugs/Issues (no DRAMA) -- Post GU3 on: February 09, 2008, 10:43:43 AM
General Monk bugs:
-FD weirdness: when spellcasting mobs are casting a spell at the time you feign, the game doesn't register the Feign attempt. If you then get up and Feign again, you get the message "Feign Death X has been toggled off".
- FD weirdness: some mobs see through Feign Death on a success. This seems to apply only to undead. Further testing needed.
- Fist of Celerity: sometimes fails to activate, but the cooldown timer will have started and the Jin will be lost. Lag cannot be the issue because I've tried with a full Jin bar. It happens a lot on my Orc when she's Dragon, hadn't seen it in the 3 days I was Harmonious. May be related to Dragon stances and/or skills.

General Monk Issues:
- FD: mobs should walk back at normal paces instead of hyperspeed. What's so great about their spawn point?
- FD: mobs should walk back at random paces, not all the same speed.

Dragon issues:
- Storm Dragon stance's mitigation penalty is still way too harsh for the returns.
- The Sundering/Gouging Dragon Claw line seems worthless compared to Harmonious' North wind breaks/snaps the trunk as far as secondary style unique finisher lines go. While the DoT is nice an additional, different effect should be added.
- Dragon Breath is still useless. It deals low damage for 4 Jin - why is it not spammable?
- AEs are worthless.
- Dragon seems to lack any kind of direction. Are we an AE class? No, because they're not endurance efficient and don't deal enough damage. Are we a DoT class? No, we have only two. Is the Dragon style in the field anything like the description the Monk Grand Master gave when he explained it? Not at all.
54  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Never thought I'd say this.... on: February 08, 2008, 08:37:32 AM
Law prohibits me from telling you all the strats but the one i use for the generic pull i can share.

All pulls require 2 people (2 monks is ideal, at least one is a harmonious or drunken)

Least ideal is Drunken monk + Necro (never make a disciple pull they are healers)

Harmonious monk tosses up iron skin (75% mitigation) and self invulnerable buff and tags right mob.
Necro waits for harmonious monk to tag, once the 2-3 mobs agro necro tags ONE mob with a dot/nuke so that it chases him, this mob CANNOT be the same mob the harmonious tagged.
Necro gets NEAR the camp and main tank tags it, soon as main tank tags, both pullers FEIGN.

Key points:
1) DONT heal the person who brings the mob to camp
2) watch for fails, if the necros fd fails its bad mojo and he needs to run out of the camp and far away so the other mobs dont run to him.
3) DONT heal the person who brings the mob to camp (this includes bard songs)
4) Dieing happens, a lot, its a pullers job to die 10-20 times a raid so the raid doesnt have to die.
5) DONT heal the person who brings the mob to camp!

I know about all of this. Okay, thanks for confirming it, then.

Okay, line of sight will keep you from being one-shotted. But it's all random as to actually splitting them, right? You just have to make use of pathing bugs, if I understand correctly, to pull a *little* more consistently?
56  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Never thought I'd say this.... on: February 07, 2008, 09:00:13 AM
I'am harmonious and do some of the hard pulls/split in raid.
Your most usefull item would be the legend range weapon from Sleeping Moon. cos of the 40m range.
Allso I have a macro that take me into defence stance and equip all my defence items aswell.

At hard pulls I use the 3 defence buffs, and monk jump to the raid for fast running..

I have no problems with the pulling atm, but found it very hard until I got hold of the legend range weapon from Sleeping Moon.

Good Luck on Your pulls and furture splits.
Got the legendary sleeping moon item. Got a defensive set macro. Got all three defensive buffs up too, but spellcasting mobs don't use evasion - hence 1 shot kill if I have to split spellcasters.
I would have thought Diamond Body would make all the difference, but it's worthless compared to the benefits Sun Dragon's Corona and Stone Dragon provide vs spellcasters - unless I'm missing something vital about Harmonious.

I disagree on Dragon AEs. Britax Lightningfist (sp?) near Khal never said anything about attacking multiple foes at once. He said hard hitting, high endurance attacks. The only one that comes to mind is Six Dragon Strike.
60  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Never thought I'd say this.... on: February 06, 2008, 04:28:52 PM
... but I think I'll go back to Dragon after having been Harmonious for three days. I loved every bit of it and was looking forward to my debuffs aiding with taking down Enraged X-83, but tonight's raid taught me that:
- Stone Dragon Stance
- Sun Dragon's Corona
are really valuable assets to have in the entry wing. I died upon pulling the two fire-based mobs by the archway before the door behind which you'll find the cable rail. Not just once, a couple of times in a row. This and other experiences in the Entry Wing have led to the following questions:

- How can you get your fire resist to above 430 for those mobs, being Harmonious? Is there specific gear I could go for?

- Is there a trick to FD pulling with the 4 mob bug gone? It seems like it's entirely random now. If I get lucky enough for one mob to start its casting animation while the others don't and time FD precisely right, I can split that one off. But nothing else works - Deadly Adder Hand or Feet of the Fire Dragon don't help to keep one mob stuck on you.  Limiting line of sight doesn't speed up or slow their advance since they'll walk right through the walls anyway. They don't have random walking paces. Secret of Ice doesn't make sure one of them walks slower towards its bind point. Any advice to make it less like Russian roulette with 5 bullets loaded?

I'd really hate to have to abandon the Harmonious way in order to succeed at pulling. Fujitsu, you're Drunken, right? Are you pulling? How? How'd you get your resists up? Anyone else that's been able to pull for Entry Wing and beyond that could shed some light on the situation?

Cheers,

Khana
