1  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Monk Styles... on: March 09, 2007, 07:39:21 AM
My personal opinion on this subject is that we should be able to travel around learning new styles when we reach a certain level or some other target for example a at 2000 kills our master would teach us a new style with new attacks. Limiting the monk to only one choice out three and making it a lifetime decision is too rigid and against what the monk is all about; learning new styles and ways of defeating an enemy.
2  Monk Discussion / Monk Tactics & Techniques / Re: FD Split Pulling on: March 06, 2007, 02:12:47 PM
I played EQ for 7 years I played a monk but my main was a warrior. The combat system in EQ is very basic. It didnt require much thinking but in Vanguard I find the combat system much more complex and needing more of my attention. I picked a monk to play because I love kung fu and combat. I don't think vanguard needs monks to be pullers the same as they were in EQ, from what i've read there are other classes more suited to it. I have to admit at first I was kind of annoyed with the change they made to FD but now i'm startin to feel like the burden of pulling has been removed and I can concentrate on the combat side alot more. I think they should leave the FD thing alone and just concetrate on making the monk class a lot more fun to play.

I don't want to cut in on the Bard's territory by giving the Monk a lull.

We have to dispense with this idea that Monks should be pullers. That makes no sense in terms of the monk's concept, it's just a hold over from EQ1.

The bard is the puller here. With their crowd control and run speed. That fits the Bard's concept as being able to get mobs to do as he pleases through the use of song.

Monks are finely tuned fighters based on critical hits and evasion, with combat flexibility - Nothing about a monk says they should be good at pulling.

FD already has enough utility IMO as a way to exit combat, and as a way to cheat death if the team is going to wipe.

I see the light!

Want to see what being a kung fu monk is all about? Watch a Gordon Liu Kung Fu film!. Pulling? F@#k that I just want to kick some ASS! Hyah Het hyah waai ! I'm talking about Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique / Shaolin Wonder Palm / Chin Kang Fist / 8 divine sword style. Whoever thought of the drunken style in Vanguard needs to watch the final fight with thunder legs in jackie chans Drunken Master
