Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Quinn, any idea when....

I am definitely not happy with where our DPS is. We are still way behind Ranger in the first 20s of a fight. When a ranger 3 level below me is pulling aggro off me within first 20 seconds of fight after I pulled the mob, that is a problem. I am duel weilding rare 35 dps claws that are 4 levels higher than me, so my weapons are good.
I do agree that monks will have a hard time finding a niche at this point if FD pulling is not enhanced or our evasion/off-tanking abilities are not enhanced. Other than holding a rez stone in case of wipe, there is not one thing we do better than another light fighter. And even the rez stone deal, other classes get FD they just don't get the same refresh time and maybe something a rogue can do with their stealth and ability to get out of combat. Harmonious gets some useful debuffs, but the only one I use lasts 16 seconds or so. The others can not be used without a successful dodge/parry/block and since I don't tank I don't ever get to use them. So my only use right now is to hold a rez stone, and put out average dps. How do we fix it? Increase DPS to where it should be. Fix FD to make FD pulling a viable option. As for harmonious, give us more debuffs that we can use in non-parry/block/dodge situations and increase the duration of the debuffs. Fix evasion to make drunken monks able to off-tank better. I am not sure about dragon, because they will never put out more damage over-all than a ranger. Sigil won't let that happen. But at least if FD is fixed that will help give them a roll.
I think Iron Hand needs a bit of tweaking. I would like it to automatically rebuff me with iron hand if I have the jin. Having to rebuff every minute is ridiculous. I think there should be a way to keep iron hand active as long as you have jin. I don't think it should be an hour long buff or anything, but it should be based on the availability of jin.

Lately I have been intermittently getting the chain sound after an attack but when I go to use my finishers none of them are lit up. Seems like a bug to me

I am a harmonious monk and I stay in tiger almost religiously. I switch to Jin stance out of combat when moving. I don't see jin stance offer me anything at all in combat. If you have full jin in this stance, it is because you don't have the endurance cost of tiger so you spam more abilities, not because of the regen with the stance. I don't run out of endurance much in groups in tiger stance, but I do when I solo. I almost never use crane stance.

Please remember the description of the Dragon monk is specializing in AOE attacks, not DPS. Harmonious monk does have some debuffs, some of which can't be used unless succesful parry or dodge. Eagle Claw is the only one I ever use in groups, as deadly adder hand does nothing noticably and is huge endurance. However the Eagle Claw 15% mitigation debuff certainly helps my DPS. I think harmonious will match a dragon's dps on a single target if he uses debuffs like eagle's claw. Harmonious monk is not supposed to do less dps, they just do it differently.

I have a lvl30 monk on Flamehammer. While I think the monk needs a little love, I certainly don't think it is as bad as people keep saying. We certainly need our DPS enhanced. We are currently above Bard, but we need to be a good bit higher. I do not have trouble finding groups. I have never been turned down for a group because I am a monk. Nerve Strike is great. I wish we did not have to be out of combat , but still is great. I think they should change the cool down though. It would be better if the cool down reset once the mob that was stunned was broke from stun.
People say that Tiger Stance is broke. Well I happen to be in Tiger stance 90% of the time, so it can't be all that bad. I wish the endurance cost was slightly less, but still a great stance. Harmonious stance needs some love as it has absolutely no use in battle and really only good for long travel. Crane Stance needed to be nerfed a bit, but was definitely nerfed too hard.
They definitely need to put more monk weapons in the game. All I ever find is swords and axes. Why do fists and wraps and claws never drop? And why do they never have dex and str? So yeah, this needs to be looked at.
All in all, I enjoy playing my monk. I like the FD ability and think it offers plenty of use. I hope our DPS gets increased, and am anxious to see if the next patch actually brings any benefit to us.

Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Setting skill direction?

The first problem with her damage is that she is using a weapon. Unless she has insanely good hand wraps, she would do more damage with her bare hands at lvl 18.
As for weapon direction, if the "+" is selected then the weapon will gain skill as you use. If the lock is chosen, the weapon will not gain or lose skill when used. If the "-" is selected, then the weapon will lose skill when she runs out of points while advancing another weapon. The one with the minus will lose a point, and the one with a + will gain the point.

I am certainly glad to see monks being looked into. I do think evasion for harmonious and drunken stances needs to be upped. I believe Rangers should have better parry skill than monks, and monks should have better dodge skill.
As for DPS, I do not believe that our attacks should be changed to be weapon based. I do think our DPS is too low. I believe monks should be the 2nd highest DPS in melee. Rogues should have better DPS when they remain stealthed. Rangers should have the highest ranged dps, however their melee dmg should be lower than a monks. And bards should have the least due to their utility, although should be close to a rangers. Although I do think bard songs need some loving, but that is a different topic. I like the idea of using bare hands. I would like to see hand wraps or knuckles enhance our hands though. I think we should have an additional special attack added that would be used only when a weapon such as martial sword was equipped. This could be a 400% weapon dmg or something attack. This would not be usable when equipping bare hands or hand wraps etc. I do believe a monk should do their highest dmg though with hand to hand. I think one of our dps problems deals with weapon levels. If I am a 25 monk, my hands are a great lvl 25 weapon. However, all other classes are using weapons that are higher level than they are. A 25 ranger may be using a lvl30 weapon. I think monks need a way to turn their bare hands (maybe with handwraps) into a higher level weapon than they are. I also think handwraps could allow us to get the stat enhancements from those slots that we are missing out on.
