1  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Trouble Incoming on: April 28, 2008, 08:10:21 AM
My guild already has 3 to 4 bards each raid, and could have 6 actually.
The fact that the GL is a bard doesnt help, but if we're nerfed, why would a 2nd monk be taken in a raid if you have more bards available ?
Even a rogue in fact.

Welcome to the boards.
As for congratutalions regarding your position, i'll postpone it once we have more informations on why and how you got it.
Sorry for sounding trollish, but i'm VERY surprised that this nomination was done with no form of communication inside the monk community (and yes these boards being the only VG monk boards, they do represent our community), and that the person supposed to represent us never checked these forums before getting this position.
So, who are you ? why did you discover these forums now ? how did you get the position ? What did the devs told you ? since how long where you in contact with them knowing you'd eventually get the position ? why did you never bother coming to these forums ? what style are playing ? did you tried all styles in solo/group/raid ? What are your views on the class ? for how long have you been playing ?
While i dont agree on all of Fuji's points of views, he's clearly the most active and dedicated member of our community, and would have been pleased by his nomination, as well as it would have felt natural ...
Your nomination is more than surprising.

If i'm alone on this position, then accept my appologies for being blunt.

Once again welcome on those boards, and into the community.

Where do ranged rangers stands compared to monks in melee ?
Personnaly i'm crap geared, especially for DPS, (i tried to get my hands on survival gear for pulling and aoes first : dead = 0 DPS) but for exemple on Nerksawl i was number 1 dps as a drunken monk, but we had no rogues.
Rangers seemed to shine in DPS while i was leveling, but since i raid, they seem to suck hard.

I've done the abo with a tank that was being two shoted by it without outside of the group buffs.
So unless you have a really good tanks, outside buffs are needed hard
5  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Class lead - get the ball rolling on: April 11, 2008, 03:41:10 AM
We are also amongst the top DPS.
I'm sure a very well equiped monkey will do as much dps as a rogue once they get the 5 pieces of their APW armor set Smiley
Else we're behind rogues.

What about Flayed skin Reinforcements(from Vicus) versus the Kota Arms ?
Flayed Skin : STR 23 Dex 19 HP 124 Melee Crit 40 Melee dmg 81
Versus
Mail of the Dragon Slayer : STR 20 Dex 20 end 10 HP 20 crit 45 54 DR ?
Imho, unless you're already melee damage capped, the Flayed skin is pretty good.

My point is that to kill something like the abomination you need a really good group, but get nothing as a reward.
You can do Hegne with a group of 4 (even 3 i suppose) and get amongst the best pre apw rewards.

I've done with my monk the Abom/Pharao/Dog part of the quest, off to OT now.
The thing is that the Abomination fight is VERY hard.
I mean without a raid geared tank, and overly buffed, most tanks would be 2 or 3 shotted byt the abomination.
Also, some classes have a much harder times on this fight.
I tried to do it with my girl friend's disciple (and by the way, was grouped with Swang ^^) it was impossible to chain heal with end heals.

Monks are imho one of the most usefull class on this fight : they can dps and FD to clear aggro, can stance push, and also since the abom does ae hits you can parry a lot and then counter with the -50% dps debuff witch will help a lot.
9  Monk Discussion / Monk Tactics & Techniques / Re: Pushing hands on: April 04, 2008, 04:12:38 AM
Maybe you can "crit" on a pushing stance and it has more effect than a "normal" stance push ?
Maybe there is a hiden value a pushing stance damage that has to be done ?
10  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Re: Crafted gear 40-50 on: March 26, 2008, 06:19:54 AM
I have allmost 7K hp with my pulling gear at 49 (i know i'm slow to level) and con isnt capped.
A monk guildy tried to convince me to craft some flawless pariah stuff of protection (with mitigation).
What do you think ? would the mitig from boots, shoulders legs and wrists would be worth puting aside the HPs ?
I think we should do a "Pre APW Pulling gear advices" thread with for each slot a small list of recommanded gear.
Same for "Pre APW DPS gear advices" thread Smiley

I have a problem with Soaring leap : a lot of times when i use it, the mobs stop chasing me :-/
Is there an explanation or a workaround ?

180 271 for cragwind's staff
13  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: GU 4 bugs - (no drama) - post on: March 14, 2008, 07:52:39 AM
I've seen a wierd bug since GU4, and i'm not 100% sure how to classify it :
In RI, i FD'ed off an efreet watcher wandering around, and waited for some friends.
He left me but as soon as he was is sight range, i had him on my list of mobs aggroing me, even if he wasnt going after me, and i wasnt in combat.
No matter what, as soon as he was in range, i had him on my list ...

Disciples are having wierd FD bugs : my girl friend is playing one, and their FD success rates as usual suck, but even when she succeeded, the mobs would either go at her, or leave, but rush her as soon as she got up.

Also, it seems the mobs chase you for much longer now before resuming with their "life".
14  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Re: New improved Graystone staff on: March 13, 2008, 07:25:57 AM
The cragwind weapon might have more DPS, but i'm pretty sure it has lower damage range : it is a faster weapon than the Graystone and the crafted bladed staff, so in the end you'll do less DPS.
I dont have the Graystone yet, is the quest hard ?
Would it be doable with a duo of monk and Disciple 46 ? or would it require more people ?
15  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Monk Wish List on: March 06, 2008, 06:50:51 AM
Besides, if an upgrade was done for PVP, people would yell if a community proposed upgrade to the pve monks would be refused  Angry
Vanguard is a PVE game, and it happens to have a PVP server.
PVP is a non issue as far as i'm concerned, and as far as the game was advertised.

Regarding classes that got an update, i thought monks where in the GU3 ? and what about Disciples ? did they get an update ?
