Done.  Keep 'em coming - I plan to get this updated soon now that the parser is out and working.
17  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Go PARSE yourself... on: March 09, 2007, 02:06:41 PM
I have timestamp enabled and used /autolog. Is there anything else I need to change in the settings?

Not really - unless you are not logging something that it looks for (ie. Misses, others' damage, etc.)  I will also be adding more features soon that will reveal non-DPS figures - so it may be better to just log it all for now.  As for the Timestamp thing - that was one of the first problems I came across, so the workaround is already in-place.  It just needs to see [HH:MM:SS] at the beginning of each line to work properly.

Let there be light.

This is great news.  Smiley

I have been working on something that I think will help us level the playing field.  I'm not ready to let the cat out of the bag just yet, but let's just say we're about see first hand exactly where we stand...

I would like to see us do something unique between fights.  As it stands, most monks do not meditate between pulls because of the slow Jin regen rate.  If there were some reward for doing so, like a short duration buff, haste, +evade, ANYTHING, we might be tempted to use it.   Wink

The Monk forms should break down like this:

The baseline of the Monk is Harmonious. They are a lot like the Ranger in this form - Having high consistant DPS, decent evasion, and some team utility.
The difference is the monk should have more/better team oriented utility in harmonious, about equal evasion, and slightly less damage (especially after factoring in a ranger that opens up from range).

The Drunken monk should be far away better at off-tanking than any other offensive fighter.
He should have team utility geared towards this, making him unique among the offensive fighters.
They should either do damage on par with a bard or a bit more.

The Dragon monk should be critical based and have a higher chance of critical than other offensive fighters. The Dragon normally should have equal DPS to a ranger, but when factoring in criticals the Dragon Monk should surpass the Ranger easily, but not do as much damage as a rogue that stays stealthed. Rogue = burst damage. Monk = Consistant damage with critical spikes.
Dragon monk should be the best Melee AoE damage out of the light fighters, and he should have aggro reducing capabilities to facilitate his damage dealing.

I disagree.  As it stands, harmonious monks do most of their DPS while in Tiger stance.  Giving this style (or something like it) to Dragon monks gives them a huge advantage over the other two.  It has been said that Dragon monks will excel at multi-target damage - that, along with Storm Dragon is their niche.

I do, however, fully support your argument that each style should be well defined.  As is, they are not.  Sure, the styles make a little difference here and there, but there is no monk style that is superior to any other class in any way.  Period.

If the styles are what sets us apart from other classes, then we clearly need some serious adjustments - this is clearly not working as-intended.

So how about everyone take a break, calm down, this is supposed to be a fun GAME!  a relaxing break from the real world.  You guys sound entirely too stressed about this.  Yes its not fair, but yes it will get fixed eventually.  So even if we are kinda broken at least we don't die all the time like them other overpowered n00b classes! (FD FTW!)  Cheesy

I couldn't agree more.  We must stick together on our core issues if we are to have them addressed by the dev team.  Bickering amongst ourselves won't get us anywhere.  This is not a flame war - it's a discussion of our major issues, and we have more than our fair share.  It is clear to me that we are broken in ways that transcend the styles - itemization, scalable abilities, lack of utility, etc.  Let's get those issues out of the way before we go about slicing and dicing the sub-class stances, Dragon vs Harmonious, Harmonious vs Drunken, Dragon vs Drunken, etc..
23  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Chat with Talisker (Evasion, FD, DPS, and Itemization) on: February 26, 2007, 05:24:50 PM
I have a few questions that have been on my mind lately...

First, with regards to the Evasion...  If we are talking about buffs from other players, this should no be evaluated in any comparisons between other classes unless they scale differently for different classes.  As long as player buffs apply equally to everyone, such a comparison is irrelevant (as buffs are available to everyone.)  Let's assume for a second that the 1/3 figures above are correct - then I can also assume that a tank (with much much better mitigation than any offensive fighter) can also get +evade from items, buffs, and stances.  This leaves us with little or no advantage.  Is it me, or shouldn't an unarmed martial artist have significantly more melee avoidance than a hulking brute wearing plate armor and wielding a giant weapon?

As for DPS...  I think we all have some idea of where we stand at the moment - but I'm curious where we *should* be?  Monks bring a much more limited amount of utility *and* DPS to the party than many other classes in Vanguard, and all offensive fighters seem to tank equally badly.  I think many players here would feel more at ease if we at least knew where we should stand in the Survivability vs DPS vs Utility department.

Hmm...  The "Character Name" does not have to be unique - the other Kaji might experience a mysterious name change in the near future  Wink

Sure, sounds like a great way to encourage in-character roleplay.  Any suggestions for the board name?

It's located in the town to the east side of the map (where the Raki start.)  Just run east down the path, then north at the bend.  The pool is dead ahead, you can't miss it
