The axe finally fell. It was only a matter of time, I suppose. And while many of you may try to spin this to make SOE look bad, apparently this wasn't really their doing. You see, SOE doesn't own Sigil. It doesn't own Sigil now and they won't own them tomorrow. But they do own Vanguard. What fate awaits that game? I don't know. Don't particularly care either.

But I do know that at approximately 4:30PM today, Sigil employees were told to meet outside. At which point they were terminated. On the spot. By whom? Doesn't seem to have been Brad McQuaid, if it was, nobody is talking. But that doesn't seem like something he'd do. But I suppose the executioner is irrelevant since most folks secretly want it to be SOE and it wasn't. As it stands, people were told to come back tomorrow to do their paperwork and some may get hired by SOE.

I contacted SOE since I'm not in the business of burning bridges or spinning news and they had this to say:

"...an announcement is forthcoming tomorrow."

Update: There's some debate over this being ALL employees or just some of them. Obviously, it's not ALL of them - after all, someone had to do the firing. Let's just say that - from what I've heard - they don't have enough employees left to update a casual game... like Snood.

Or make food work while you meditate. Alt+tab is your friend when soloing on a monk.
3  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: A telling statistic... on: April 27, 2007, 12:54:50 PM
To Soulfyst or anyone else that wants to chime in. I am a 33 Dragon monk, switched from drunken. Soloing SW missives since 28.... I have now officially (in my guild) switched my main to my 31 DK due to the fact that i hate playing my monk anymore.

Where can i go at 33 that isn't group orientated, cause i have sat in wardship long enough LFG with no productive grouping, unless you count a full group of 30+ farming 3 Dot Blood Howlers. Any group going into VT falls apart before we even get down into the dungeon half the time.

I feel that unless a monk has a dedicated party, I have a monk in my DK's static party, which i can't really complain, its hard to play a monk in a group when no one really knows what a monk can do (though with all the changes/nerfs we have had, its hard to know what your role in your group is.(Even sigil doesn't have a clear vision of the monk, and if i read what the "monk" was suppose to be after they changed the class outline, i would not have played one)  I feel its just a hack and slash class, very similar to the boreing rogue class on WoW.

(A quick side note, my 31 DK out DPS's my monk by far. I never leave offensive stance, and i hold aggro like a champ.)

It's both. Nerve Strike doesn't work with the teleport move, nor does it work in combat. You can use it in two ways:
1) Slap it on a mob when you're still out of combat. Example: tank pulls two mobs, you slap the one not targeted by the tank before executing any other attacks.
2) You run up to the mob, FD, and when FD breaks combat, THEN slap Nerve Strike on the mob.

You cannot nerve strike from behind either, which makes no sense.

Monks are masterful martial combatants with the ability to chain their martial attacks together in a wide variety of ways to accomplish certain tasks. They can learn combat disciplines which alter their attacks in powerful ways, allowing them to strike with fists of fire, assume a stance that greatly increases their armor class and even teleport to and attack an opponent before he is even aware of the Monks presence.

Thats Sigil's main description of the monk, though not the same description as it was when the game first launched.
6  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Higher level Drunken Monks? on: April 03, 2007, 09:07:26 AM
I was Drunken Mastery from 15 to 29. Two days ago I switched to Dragon. My only advice to any drunken monk is to switch out asap, lol. The warrior that i usually duo with even noticed the substantial increase in dps coming from my side. Where when i was drunken, the "utility" or lack of it on this path does not compare to the amount of dmg that can be done with dragon.

Drunken monks get the same "force crit" jin based attack as dragons, though the dragons ability does more dmg.... why?

The Jeering Kick 2 round taunt is nice.... but you can do that with a few ashen hands and FD.

The only one that i saw at 29 that was usefull was the AOE 5 round taunt. That saved some people, but usually got me killed, so I never really did it in pugs, lol.

The end doesn't justify the means when compareing Drunken Mastery with the other paths. I can see a use for the Dragon stances, the add dmg stance without taking a penalty, the increased health regen for out of combat, makes you solo faster, less down time, and the stone skin form, great for soloing, with at least descent rewards to the 20% slower attacks.

They try to lower the drunkens dmg output to increase is utility in the group, but his only utility is the ability to take a hit, when atm he can't. Thats my biggest gripe on the drunken, with the evasion hit, the drunken style monk can't perform his "job" as the "off tank" which if givin taunts you become a tank or a variation of one.

Ok throw'n this up as a thought, let me know what you think.

28 Drunken Monk atm, recently aquireing reed in the wind, which yes, it is 40 endurance, which is a price, but im realizing I can get two, MAYBE 3 counters in during the time its up, add that to Sway Step, we have some decent dmg off that back hand, i have had my largest crit atm 6k, off it.

But this is what im thinking, it makes no sense at all as a monk who exploits weakness, nor physically as if you were actually fighting, where most counters almost always lead into killing blows. Now im not saying make an end all be all crit chance on it, but maybe add a finisher based on the counter. Maybe a special finisher based on your path (what would be the better imo) or a generalized finisher but special to the counter alone.

just a thought.

I play a DK alt now and those fix's were actually needed Tongue

But after seeing the AIM from QTM gives hope.
10  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: DPS Parse(38 Monk) on: March 24, 2007, 10:31:40 AM
Actually to get an accurate parse you would need to have all the other party members running a parser as well and compare at the end.  The parsers aren't picking out all the damage and you'll see big differences from your damage than to others.  In other words you aren't getting their total damage.  See how another person parses your party and compare results.

Dena

That would be a controled enviroment. I should have worded my post last night, but it was late and i was tired, sorry. Doing such a thing could lead to uncoverings of the parser actually being flawed to a certain degree. Who knows, the only info we have gotten is single incidents with no information to cross refrence what we have gathered except other monks at other times doing the same thing. We need a whole groups info.

I personally don't group much and couldn't organize a total "group parse" where all members are running the program for the same duration over a grind session. But I would believe that the findings would be interesting to say the least.

Our best bet is to lower as much variables as possible to make it as easy as possible for sigil to jump in and investigate the issue.
11  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: DPS Parse(38 Monk) on: March 24, 2007, 12:32:35 AM
This was over a period of about 2 hours, somewhere in the region of 75 fights. The group did know I was parsing and did their best to not hold back, without causing aggro problems. I'm a Dragon-Style monk, equipped with two Claws of Bloodletting: http://vg-en.curse-gaming.com/database/items/details/1324678/claws-of-bloodletting/
We'll be doing alot of grinding in this area, so I'll post more parses as I'm able.

The parse shows 27 minutes of total fight time though. You have the highest in combat time outside the MT. That has a lot to do with it.  We can parse all we want, but we need to break down in combat time Vs other class's in a controled enviorment. The ranger had slightly less time in combat yet doing slightly less dmg, which giving 300 more seconds in combat could easily close the gap. While adding the group utility rangers do.
12  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Stances discussion on: March 21, 2007, 10:33:32 AM
Im a 27 Drunken monk.

Stances are worthless imho. The drunken mastery abilities i have recieved so far only get me flak from groups cause it draws aggro on me. Tanks, nor healers like it when I get aggro due to my paper armor and no evasion. I stay in +haste +dodge stance 90% of the time when grouped. Solo +dmg +aggro, but its such a minimal increase it doesn't matter what stance im really in. The only stance that hurts me is the +evasion - accuracy, solo or in group the stance has no benfit whatsoever I'd rather spend more time questing for evasion/dodge gear then click on that stance button to get the evasion boost.

The best stance would be the haste/dodge just because it doesn't draw more aggro, but being a drunken monk, I shouldn't have to be affraid of aggro.

(Im on the fence as to changing my path, the quest is done, just needs to be turned in, but im trying my best to stay drunk)
13  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: I guess monks are "fixed" in Sigils eyes.... on: March 21, 2007, 08:25:56 AM
Then again, these issues that are being worked on could have been issues before the "monk disaster" happened. Could it be that sigil is working on the monk as we speak and doesn't want to release any updates for them just yet due to being "incomplete." They boosted us enough so we can actually play, which I have, started playing my monk again. I still see huge problems in gameplay with the monk, as well as previously "fixed" issues that aren't fixed yet.

Start an alt, but stop bitching, it gets us nothing but more ignored pleas for a fix.  We (as in the monk community) have already posted our issues in a productive manor. There is no need for these posts considering all it does is make you look like a cry baby. Theres nothing you can do to help sigil get to the monk faster, and in all honesty id rather have them finish the healers and tanks of the game considering in the end they are the key elements to any large format group, where a monk can still slide by and get what we need for the time being. We are second prio, it happens, but with the huge list on our forum stateing many many issues, for all paths, that NEED attention, I doubt highly that sigil will go the rest of this game without giving the monk a revamp.

(sorry for the rant, getting tired of all the negativity here)

If im not mistaken this item is given to you soulbounded due to it being a quest reward.  Gonna have to LFG on this one.
15  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Patch notes 13th on: March 14, 2007, 12:17:14 PM
That "bug" happens alot to me. Usually criting and just playing out a few more rounds of battle fix's the issue, sometimes. I have gone whole nights with my reactions all screwed up.
