1  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: If I ruled the world of Telon... on: April 25, 2007, 12:45:08 AM
Very off topic here, but the title reminded me of this little Gem.

Top 100 things I'd do if I was an evil overlord.

Back on topic:
In my opinion Feign death SHOULD be a much better way to pull mobs than lull.  That way we have more to offer to groups than just a change to prevent wipe with FD and res healer stone....

2  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Monk patch notes on test server on: March 02, 2007, 04:22:11 PM
I remember seeiing these in a previous patch, at least I'm pretty sure I have.  I don't think it's new.   Could been a dev post stating that is what they were wanting though can't seem to remember when and where i've seen it..

Though I'd almost swear i've seen it in the live patch notes before....

Do you not understand that you need to look and compare each class on its own abilities, NOT what it can get from other classes?

Try and solo a 2 dot even con mob, using ONLY YOUR MONK BUFFS.  Then watch a Ranger and a Bard solo the same mob with only their buffs.  Log all 3 fights.  Look at the health of all 3 people and the time each took to kill the mob.  The try and say there is no problem with the monk class.

Uh, the vast majority of dexterity crit chance is innate, and unless you've neglected that, you should have at least 10% regardless of what race you picked as Monk. I'm virtually always grouped, which includes dexterity buffs putting me at ~15% (sometimes less, sometimes more) - while ok, it's maybe 12.5%-13% unbuffed (haven't checked in a while, to be fair). A monk not yet 30 will still have a respectable near 40% (some more, some less, pending dexterity and +crit gear) critrate - the argumentation was a 30+ monk vs a 30+ ranger however, not sub-30; hence the ~50% comment.

Like I stated, in group, add ranger buff (5%) and then the bard ac debuff, which actually increase crit rate against a mob with nearly 25-30% (suspected number only, can't confirm, however it's huge numbers - entire group notices when it's on and off), you end up at maybe 80-85% critrate in (Magnificent) Tiger stance, this means that I in certain 10 second areas (hence the 2-5 2k crits - the 5 does additionally require a disciple to soulwrack my Ashen Hand though, so it dosen't work if he's not tagging along) do crit everything - I even go entire fights against 4 dots where everything is a crit with my standard group. I'm outdpsed by the Ranger (he benefits even more from the bard debuff if anything) but we both bring roughly the same DPS to the group (as the harmonious mitigation debuff really boosts a melee group). On top of that, he brings buffs, I bring utility.
Is the monk finished? No, we're the most unfinished of all DPS classes now (by quite far) - but we can still stand on our own legs and everything isn't as miserable as some would like to make it out to be.

You Can NOT consider buffs from other classes in your assessment.  Not everyone will group with those classes.  When you compare Apples to Apples you need to make sure they are both Apples and not 1 Apple and one Carmel Apple.. You can only consider buffs that a monk can give himself when comparing him to a Ranger or a bard who can buff themselves.

Those other classes, the Ranger and bard you are fond of mentioning, bring not only higher DPS to the group, but buffs as well that help everyone else. That is called utility which monks lack.  So not only do we lack in DPS compared to the other offensive tanks, we lack in utility (which I don't mind as long as it is balanced out with more DPS!)
6  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Chat with Talisker (Evasion, FD, DPS, and Itemization) on: February 26, 2007, 10:10:43 PM
I was able to chat with Talisker about a couple of things today. Here is a brief summary:

Regarding Evasion: We won't see an adjustment as the mode of operation went from internal from the styles to roughly 1/3 from form, 1/3 from items, 1/3 from buffs (pure evasion buffs). We can still reach respectable levels of evasion when you think about it. Sure it's not 70% We can get well over 25% easily.  Anywho....sharpen those martial swords!!!!

So they only want monks barely better than any other class?  Other classes will be able to wear the armor and get the buffs, so that only leaves 1/3 from the forms?  Pardon me if I don't jump for joy, but that seems a bit weak compared to before.  Is the, God how I hate to use this word, but the "Vision" of the monk not a offensive fighter that evades attacks?

Regarding FD: Two important things to note:1.) FD was not intentionally messed with. I let him know I did list it as a monk issue and it should be addressed. 2.) FD in PVP is not a "cheat death" ability it's considered a trick for PVP. This may change at a later time. For now though it is working as they intended it to.

What about FD did you say was a monk issue?  The fact that it doesn't work on mobs higher level than you?  They need to up the level that it works on.  I don't know of many groups that fight against mobs lower level than they are.  So if groups are fighting against mobs 2-3 levels higher than them, then FD should work reliably well against those same mobs.  Other wise lull is a much better puller than monks.  Do they not see monks as a pulling class, I know some people want it to be like EQ 1 and others don't want to be put into the puller position.. but monks FD should offer more to a group than just FD rez.

Regarding DPS: They are running the numbers to see where monks actually rank on the DPS totem pole. I'll update this when I get the results of this as well as let you know what they are going to do about it.

Good to hear, from nothing but opinion and observation, it appears in terms of DPS it is Ranger > Bard > Monk = Rogue (if the Rogue can stay stealthed the whole time then they > monks but otherwise about even)

Regarding Itemization It's being looked at. As monks we should "need to want" weapons. I think that is a Talkser-ism /boggle This will go a bit to address the DPS situation hopefully.

As long as they do not change fists themselves as they are fine, just need to bring the weapons up to fist damage.

I'm glad that the line of communication has been opened and lets hope that things start happening for the best. Hope it continues.  Thanks for putting in the time and effort to pass along our issues!

Awesome!!

Can we get Quinn the Mighty's title changed from Recruit to Monk Lead?
Can we also get TaliskerSGO's title changed from Recruit to Dev for Vanguard?

Or at least something close to that?

I played a monk in beta up till 12, loved it.   At Launch started with a shaman as needed a healer for group.  I am making a monk alt as I miss it.  Just wanted to say howdy as been lurking for while Smiley

9  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Who is the class lead and dev for monks? on: February 23, 2007, 12:57:10 AM
Not trying to cause any problems, only asking out of curiosity.  Do the monks have a class lead and does the monk dev stop by?  If so who are they? I looked through the members list and didn't see anyone with the title there.  Only curious as I just started my monk and a lack of an "official Vanguard forum" to post info / feedback / bugs / issues, I just want to know if monk issues are being looked at.  I know and understand can't comment on everything, but just maybe a hi yes looking at / no not looking at / its known issue / please provide more info / etc type of posts. To show monks are not being forgotten.   I know with this last patch someone showed some monk love Smiley  as there were a few monk changes.

The reason I'm curious is wanted to see  what Sigil is saying about the changes to evade and whether or not they plan on making changes to the monk to help make up for it.  Plus anything on the burner to address the monk issues list?  Specifically like DPS increase and  FD issues.

Thanks
Yruc

Don't forget that one of the typically overlooked but extremely important role to you with Vitality: It not only boosts your regen, it also affects how much you get healed on a heal.

No it does not. There have been dev posts explain that Vit does the health / stamina regen and only effects the amount you can heal for.  I looked for the dev post, but think it was on the beta boards that went bye bye.  I'm a shammy now and was a cleric in beta 4 so can attest that no matter how much vit you have, you don't get healed for more.  My cleric healed himself and my shaman heals himself the same as other characters and it doesn't increase or decrease based on the person's Vit.
