1  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Re: Xennu Power Boots on: May 10, 2007, 11:34:52 AM
The clicky is nothing like Soaring Leap. Dunno who told you that but they obviously do not have the boots. As far as not imposing global cooldown, do you know of any clicky that does?

That being said the boots are a must-have. Buy your pair before they're soulbound, or spend some hours farming shards. Definantly worth it.

By the way the clicky provides a jump high into the air maybe four times as high as a normal jump, and forces you slightly forward maybe 6 meters total.

3  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Learning Abilites From Mobs on: February 09, 2007, 11:48:15 AM
I think the patch from Tuesday(0206/07) night removed the 'learning' ability thing. I am sure it is something that will be detailed more fully once they finalize it. Before the patch, my group mates were learning my Fists of Ice ability, so it was not just critters.

Non-monks learning fists of ice from mobs was addressed in one of the recent patches. I think the best way to think about learned abilities is it gives you a chance to learn an ability for your class before your trainer has it available, or at the very least sometimes may save you a trip to your trainer.

The Disciple has something like it as well, on mine after I performed Blessed Wind, then Cyclone Kick and then Void Hand I learned Endowment of Life which when those 3 are performed in that order heals me (could be defensive target I'm not sure as I always keep myself as the defensive target) for about 95 at level 4.
This has nothing to do with learning abilities from mobs. The disciple has many hidden chains.

FD works very well on even or lower cons. However, I'm beginning to get frustrated with the failure rate when using against mobs +1 and +2 levels above me. They definantly need to improve FD for yellow and red cons. The sooner the better.

We have DPS and a heal that requires a 5 minute reuse timer. ??
It is nice having a self heal, and I as a Kojani monk get a second heal in my racial.

No stealth? No speed? What do we have that sets us apart?
We get stealth, and speed. We also have many things that set us apart.

Do we ever get the ability to levitate the way the Master Monks of Tanvu do?
Yes

Do we ever get to use the sai's and martial weapons that the monks of the stronghold use?
Yes, but you'll find that your fists alone are amazing weapons.
7  Monk Discussion / Monk Quests / Re: Style Change Quest on: February 09, 2007, 11:38:19 AM
They added a quest in beta that allowed you to switch styles, but we were told that in release you would not be able to switch your styles and that it was a permanent decision.
8  Monk Discussion / Monk Tactics & Techniques / Re: Monk as a tank. on: January 27, 2007, 03:06:06 PM
In my opinion monks actually do a better job than defensive fighters at tanking in groups in certain situations.Once you get reed in the wind you become a viable option for tanking in xp groups. And with reed in the wind 2 you have 13 seconds before you have to recast it, giving you plenty of time to land finishers or adv finishers. Harmonious monks also get find the center which would be even more of a benefit to avoidance.

As someone else mentioned earlier drunken do get some agro management tools, but for a duo especially the avoidance would be better.

We can Sneak.  Came through on one of the final patches before Beta was shut down.

Interesting!! Never saw the patch note on this but if we do get sneak then it explains the seemingly stupid requirement of nerve strike.

thanks for the info

It's not a stupid requirement, monks can get out of combat any time they want via FD. As far as sneak, dragon monks have always had sneak+lev in the form of an ability, but last I checked it was a 40+ ability. Are you guys saying all monks get a sneak at lower levels now?

In beta, FD had a very high chance of working on equal cons. It becomes much less reliable the higher the mob is compared to your level. FD completely wipes your agro when successful.

AFAIK The only differences between the first and second versions were endurance costs and reuse times.

FD produces a message in the chat box letting you know whether your FD was successful. Unfortunantly a bug still exists when you have multiple mobs agro'd, FD will produce a successful message but because you have agro'd so many the game fails to drop them all from your agro list. Hopefully they'll be able to fix it.
