Devs mentioned this on the official forums a few weeks back.  Smiley
2  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: What's the lost between Int and secrets? on: September 30, 2008, 06:34:34 AM
near as I can tell the "ratio" is the same.  AKA the damage boost to secrets from int hasn't changed at all.  You get a self buff that raises your int more than it was, but the scaling is still the same.

The only difference is that the final result is essentially cut down to 25% of what it was.  Which in turn makes int about 75% less worthwhile to dump points into, not really a viable build stat anymore...which sucks.  Particularly for harmonious monks since their offensive stance is pure crit bonus and is largely wasted for melee but boosted chances for secrete crits, it made an int build for harmonious plus offensive to boost secrete crits a very viable idea.  Not so much now.  I've had to respec because the dodge/parry bonus from dex and hps from con (sadly) is more useful than the bonus to secret damage int provides now.

There may be exceptions...but by and large its the cookie cutter one size fits all build for monkes again...some blend of str/dex/con

wis/vit are worthless and secrete proc rate was nerfed enough to not make int a viable stat to put points in anymore.  Probably my largest complaint of the monk rebalance.
3  Monk Discussion / Monk Tactics & Techniques / Re: Stripping Agro - FD or no? on: September 26, 2008, 06:51:03 AM
Actually you are 100% right if you FD (or a mob agro clears), it wont go right back to the tank.  It begins by proximity agroing the nearest person attacking.

Right...which means it should only retarget someone in melee range, which means it won't ping pong unless the ranged dps members or ranged healers are going ballistic...which they usually do.  Tempering themselves to say "oh...it switched targets...I should back off a second" goes a looooong long way to helping.  So long as it is targeting someone that already was in melee range its usually pretty easy for a tank to get things back under control if you get up and push aggro after FDing.

Its almost like the whole hate list is erased because for a split second you see the --- on the targerts agro, as if it wasn't agro.

Likewise if you land a large crit there is a delay before the aggro seems to register and the mob peals.  Thus my statement that you can always FD immediately after a large crit and it prevents the huge chunk of aggro from getting a chance to register and peel from the tank.  At least its always worked that way for me.  Wink

Typically if i peel (still happens quite often because of the way burst agro works) I will move the mob next to the tank and immediately FD so it will proximity agro the tank.  I can fd 10+ times in a fight and still agro at 5% if I get a big enough set of crits.  (apparently agro diminishes over time, or so the tanks tell me)

The tanks are correct ime.  It seems to have some kind of exponential decay factor so that it becomes hard to sustain beyond a certain level but it also never really drops to zero (ignoring FD and mem wipes etc.).  That means sudden bursts of aggro can allow someone to go past the steady maintained level your tank is holding.  But like I said there seems to be a delay before it registers with the mob, in that time you can almost always FD before it actually peels.  Seems to work that way on my monk and disc.  If I FD immediately after landing  large crit, or immediately after critting on the concordant chain on a disc I will never actually peel aggro.  If I stay up the aggro seems to "finish registering" with the mob and i peel it.

On the flip side I could be completely misreading things?  /shrug
Wouldn't be the first time.  Wink
4  Monk Discussion / Monk Tactics & Techniques / Re: Stripping Agro - FD or no? on: September 25, 2008, 06:14:23 AM
Hello, this is my first post on VGMonks, although I've been a "troll" at work for a long time now.

I had a discussion the other day with a friend on what to do if you strip agro off your tank in a group or raid.

Basically, its a conflict of interest between FD or not. Being a Qalian drunken, if I happen to pull agro off of a tank, I have no problem staying alive, and what I will normally do is either invul or use a few of the dodge abilities to give the tank some time to take the agro back and once they do I will immediately FD to clear the agro. The reason I do this normally is as most know alot of times if you strip agro and then FD immediately the mob won't always go back to the tank, instead it will start bouncing around smashing all the squishies. Also just fyi I don't pull agro all the time ;p very rare after GU6 with a lucky burst.

I still hear it every now and then if I strip agro, people (other classes) telling me to FD (or I will die, lol). Wondering what other monks think on this subject.

Ultimately its a matter of conmmunicating with your tank.  If they tank expects you to FD (which most will) they will not intend to target you and use rescues or defensive target aggro boosting manuvers.  If on the other hand you tell them that you will go invuln and then evasive, they will know what to expect and everyone will likely be cool with things.

That said, arguably you shouldn't be pulling aggro in the first place unless you are intentionally allowing yourself to do so.  You are the one dps class that almost never has an excuse.  If you do a major crit you can always FD immediately afterwards and not pull aggro etc.

If the mob tends to ping pong after you FD it usually implies that multiple party members need to do a better job of controlling their aggro.  A good solution is to let them die repeatedly.  Wink  That said if you can consistantly stay ahead of the other DPS's aggro and help moderate the ping pong and the net result is that your group safely and effectively mows through things faster.../shrug who can really complain so long as you use your aggro planting ability to help the tank secure things when he/she looses it.

PS a troll at this point is a term usually used for people that make posts in a forum designed purely to piss off and annoy others and generate dramatic flaming responces.  AKA you are baiting and fishing for responces "trolling".  You are not a rather a lurker.  Wink
5  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Re: HL weapon reward, now what on: September 25, 2008, 06:01:22 AM
Not that I am aware of.
6  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Re: HL weapon reward, now what on: September 24, 2008, 05:52:57 AM
Considering whatever you get right now will:
A) be in your offhand thus get half damage
B) get replaced relatively soon
C) be outclassed by level 26 blue 1h weapons

I would strongly suggest just getting a reasonable level 22ish blue for a few silver off a broker.  Then replace it with a level 26ish for a few silver.  etc.

The HL claw you won't be getting rid of until much later on, eventually it will become your offhand weapon at some point in your 30s.  When you can get a new mainhand weapon that exceeds the HL one, that will be the time that it may be reasonable to invest a bit.  Even then I wouldn't burn too many resources until you are ~45ish and really looking and building final gear sets.
7  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Huge monk nerfs on: September 09, 2008, 10:08:26 AM
I was hoping that the devs would at least notably reduce the cooldown on mend so solo monks are not utterly obliterated by these changes.  Not so much luck.  Sad
8  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Huge monk nerfs on: September 05, 2008, 02:26:49 PM
From what I have seen the proc does stack with all other double damage abilities and ya it was a wee bit to much. But two jin proc is kinda pathetic. Would like to see somthing more along the lines of say 10% melee damage for so many seconds or something. Almost anything is better then what they gave us in return.

Atleast it is still only on test so hopefully it will be changed.

To be fair...a 2jin proc is pretty close to the 5piece buff of most of the other APW sets.

And Dkahl...this was absolutely needed.  The current live version of the 5piece set bonus makes such a large jump that if they reblance monk damage around it (which it appeared they were doing) there will be two kinds of monks.  Those with 5 peices of APW set armor that do OK...and everyone else who is horridly gimped.

I would MUCHLY prefer the 5 piece bonus brought in line with other classes than have the core monk abilities further nerfed to make up for it.  I'm rather ticked about the severe secret damage nerf as it is.  They kicked it down far enough that its not very practical to put any points in int again which kills options and diversity.  They also never addressed the rediculous harmonious tiger stance with far more +crit can can be actually used and too much endurance cost.

/sigh and here I just has flawless T5 jewlry made for my monkie with int on it...to play around with.  Cry

absolutely

There is no limit on switching styles, you can always redo the quests at any time.  Smiley
10  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Gu5 - dps - refresh haste on: June 14, 2008, 12:53:04 AM
I can definitely say that the vyalp parser is pretty jacked up post GU5...for me anyway.  And that my dps is down a bit, but more from glitches in ability haste (understand that its not just bard and psi ability haste not stacking, there are glitches with them not taking effect period, so that's not just missing out on 20% its missing out on ability haste from BOTH).  Had problems with it again tonight.  Was working on some people sporadically but not others.  We think it may be an issue with meta mind but honestly are not sure.

Combine that with laggy play and yeah, you can get a serious dps redux.  Ever since GU5 raiding seems to beat the tar out of my system.  I'm running an 8800gt.  But my processor is a bit older and single core so I suspect it may be my bottle neck but without trying different processors its impossible to say for sure.

In either case, taking a caustic angle doesn't help these boards nor anyone else.  Chill the hostility, say your peice, back it up where you can and let it ride.  If you want to get personal that's what PMs are for.  If you don't think the recipiant will listen then its doublely fruitless to be emotionally upset in your writing.

Now lets see if we can keep from throwing little barbs subtle or otherwise eh?  Wink
11  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Gu5 - dps - refresh haste on: June 12, 2008, 05:04:11 PM
I would definitly concur that the hiting and laggy preformance post GU5 has severly impacted a lot of our DPS mine included.  Can't actually chain attacks smoothly at all.  Lots of delays...quite annoying.  Sad
12  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Gu5 - dps - refresh haste on: June 11, 2008, 04:31:47 PM
Yeah its unfortunately messed up enough after GU5 that I just don't feel I can rely on the results.  Thanks for keeping on it.  Its my fav. of the different parsers available.  Smiley
13  Monk Discussion / Monk Gear & Equipment / Re: New improved Graystone staff on: June 10, 2008, 09:29:20 PM
Anyways I like my new staff, I doubt they will change it, good for the devs for putting in some item diversity by making our masterwork staffs role specific rather than making our other apw hand to hand weapons obsolete.

Considering the extreme rarity of the crystals to drop...there is no way they would make apw h2h weapons obsolete.

My guild has yet to see ONE crystal drop, let alone one that could be used on a handwrap or claw.

But to look at it from a remotely practical point of view.  Even if you got an ancient crstal, even if it could be used on handwraps or worse still claws, the final level of the item would be lower than the enorcer or choking grasp and thus still more than likely be notably inferior.  So even if they dropped like candy it would STILL not make the apw h2h weaps obsolete.

That said considering their extreme rarity it would be nice if they were used as catalyst on an upgrade recipie to boost the item thus still allowing the crafter freedom to customize.  Or at least only drop with useful crystals.  I'm pretty sure with my luck when we finally get one it will be something like ancient crystals of conjuration.  Wink

yalp hasnt been updated in over a month, if you couldnt work it before it was your own fault.  It hasnt been updated for gu5 yet because the man who makes it is in europe on vacation.

You misunderstand, its been broken for me since GU5.  Was working peachy prior to. Wink
15  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Gu5 - dps - refresh haste on: June 09, 2008, 09:11:43 PM
did vyalp get updated to GU5?

Was broken last I tried...  Sad
