1  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: I've run out of patience. on: April 24, 2007, 05:17:46 AM
I have played my 25 monk one evening in the last 4 weeks. It was my main. I can't say I have run out of patience, rather just putting the monk in the freezer for the time being. I'm now maintaining two shaman for two different static groups and a necro for solo play.

Sad really, I liked the monk.

Also, I'm not going to play the tough it out and get all at 50 game. I play these games for the journey, not the end.
2  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Harmonious Issues. on: March 29, 2007, 10:16:54 AM
Level 25 harmonious here.

I can't show hard numbers but I have a feeling that our specials interrupt autoattack so if you spam them there are hardly any basic damage dealt. This unlike my ranger.

Nerve strike: useless on mobs higher in level since FD often fails and that is the only way to use nerve strike for me. I'm dreaming of Storm Stride working with Nerve Strike  Wink Either that or adjust FD so it does not fail so often on higher mobs.

About damage. I seem to be very safe in a group, I can dish out as much damage as I can and rarely steal aggro from the tank, even if I'm higher in levels and not using Goading Slap. I don't know if this is intended but it feels wrong.

I also feel the crane stance is unbalanced, too much damage penalty for very little evasion gain.

I have stopped soloing with my monk, it's just not viable.
3  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: haha I guess you have to have the CEO play your class to get changes.... on: March 22, 2007, 11:01:50 AM
Brad is not playing a ranger.

I wonder how many active monks are left now.
4  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Requesting help with race debate please! >< on: March 21, 2007, 02:58:21 AM
My opinion based advice is to stay with your halfelf. You did choose it as the first choice and that is often based on the feel for the character, you chose it because you liked it. I think that is more important than the minor difference in stats. You may end up not liking your Qaliatharian if you reroll.

I play a halfelf harmonious myself and will never reroll. A guildie plays a Qaliatharian harmonious monk and we are both 24. The difference between us is not that big, hardly noticeable. He is using a lot of crafted DEX gear but seems to have hit some kind of cap in DEX. I myself is using a mix of STR+CON, STR+DEX and some DEX only like the infineum robe where I chose the DEX robe unlike other monks who went for the dodge one. There is also an abundance of different jewelry with a mix of stats to choose from.

Minmaxing is not a requirement. I know people who played halfelf druids in EQ, the worst race of them all for that class. In the end they were equally competitive as the other races.
5  Disciple Discussion / Disciple General / Re: WE can FD. we can heal and? on: March 09, 2007, 02:38:02 AM
I admire your willingness to continue with the disciple. I myself have shelved mine and have not touched him for 3 weeks. I have a couple of shamen now instead (my main is a monk).

Having played both disciple and shaman I must say the shaman is a walk in the park compared to the disciple when it comes to keeping a group alive.

I think the main problem is endurance based healing as a replacement for the HP buff of other healers. It takes 6 seconds to get one off and the global cooldown also interferes with casting energy based heals leading to problems when you need to get an emergency heal off quickly. I often found that I had to wait the cooldown before I could cast an energy based heal, often leading to wipe because I could not get it off fast enough.
6  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Post Hotfix Patch.Patch...er gameplay after changes 3-8-07 on: March 08, 2007, 10:56:21 AM
Thank you, Talisker, your words are reassuring after having heard absolutely nothing since release.

It was my guess yesterday that the bug fix of the direct damage abilities had an unfortunate side effect on monks. I will now login and test how it works with the quick fix.
7  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Holy cow! on: March 08, 2007, 04:22:31 AM
These fixes are probably temporary just to remedy the borked upgrade patch for monks. Maybe these fixes are pulled from the ongoing overhaul?

The monk has one very good ability, we can't steal aggro from a tank  Grin
8  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: /sigh So we get nerfed again. on: February 17, 2007, 01:50:24 AM
Well... I myself think the monk was too good shortly after release. I and a couple of guildies formed a trio and entered the scorp cave in ToD. 13+14 monk and 14 shaman. We had no problems fighting the level 14 5-dot mobs there. That is a bit much so the first nerf was really called for.

The second nerf is a result of the modified evasion system which hit the monk pretty hard rendering the crane stance useless. I'm sure it was just an unintended side effect of this and Sigil will most likely take a look at the monk and tune it back some. What we could do is to present hard numbers to Sigil and not just say we suck. It's difficult to do something if we just say we suck, they need to know how.

I'm not giving up my monk or disciple just yet.

Just my 2c.
9  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: What race? on: January 25, 2007, 12:52:27 PM
I'm going Halfelf. I believe in high dexterity for some reason.

During beta I played a goblin monk to 18 and while it was fun I don't like being KoS everywhere.
