Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Crit % Cap

This has always been kept a bit hush-hush hasn't it? You're right from what people say about crit cap it would make no sense to be in tiger stance. I have no definite answers.........however i can say last time i was raiding as dragon style, nothing was critting nearly as much and as harmonious style, Crescent Kick seems to essentially be an "force-crit" move, whereas for dragons it isn't.

There is no doubt monks have been screwed over so hard in apw gearwise. Seen armor and weapons from most mobs in there now + a few links from other sites from basement. Have yet to see a weapon worth bidding on in apw. I see lots of really cute hammers and axes. One of them is a 1hander with 310 max dmg. Monks get the finger and has to get those skanky knuckles at best. They could at least have made the senator claws a lifetap weapon..... Its really sad. Not even a decent 2hander so far that ive seen. Add to that.....most medium armor that drops is healerarmor.... Im saving dkp at least cause there is S H I T and nothing to spend it on /finger back at soe Agree 100%, even some of the "legendary" class specific armor from ore/mold is worse than crafted/quested lol wth?

Yes i suppose you have a good point. It would be nicer if "exotic" builds were more viable. So that you are never quite sure what you have is the best, and it's a bit of a mystery. Atm we just go for Str & dmg rating & crit rating, pretty limited but saying that there are still many choices of gear/drops in VG. I'm sure noone with monk as their main has the exact same gear as another. Anyway i'll /sign your idea I wanna see orcs in dresses tbh

I'm same as Fujitsu, dragon 15-50. I loved it and never complained Then i tried all other styles a bit, and came to the conclusion harmonious was best. Dragon is so weak and gimp right now :/ stuff like that dragon beath AoE, and the -10%mit in offensive stance...i could never go back to dragon..i'd feel...dirty...violated... I was once like you however, devout Dragon monk. Although i've had a long-term affair with harmonious, if they ever made dragon better dps than harmonious i'd go back. Thing is....my guild has done some Dps parse logs ( http://yavlp.areyoureadyforpain.org/publish.htm) i come out top everytime, TWICE yes twice the dps of the highest sorc, and roughly 20% more than rogues. To actually make dragon the most dps, it'd have to be the "hugest beast of a damage dealer of all time" :O and with the bear sham/cleric/psi endurance buffs nullifying the harmonious penalty...i don't see how they can manage it, without giving dragon offensive like +50%dmg lol

Yes it's an unfortunate truth that this is the most effective way to split, if you are a single puller.
I suggest if you don't think your raid-force can handle off-tanking 2 or 3 at once, and don't have another monk........get those lazy necros and disciples to work too! I've had successful splits with the guild disciple, albeit a bit more risky to them.
Basically just experiment a bit, you'll soon find out what you prefer. Good luck in APW khana

Fire resist buffs: Paladin & Sorc & Bard songs & Wardship legendary shurikens (& druid i think?) As dragon, while you will take slightly less damage on 1% of the APW creatures, you will be less useful in every other way. I changed to dragon after the end regen nerf when raids first started. But believe me i couldn't switch back to harmonious fast enough ! Yeh i can't really find any reliable way of pulling, being the only guild monk. You really do just have to hope for luck sometimes, take the mobs around corners, through walls etc and hope it splits them in some way. I can imagine with 2 monks, split pulling would be fairly easy though (sometimes i use the guild ranger as a sacrifice ^^). But mostly we're just off-tanking adds, which makes me feel inadequate at times

The changes to force-target taunts came about because, 3 or 4 tanks in APW on test were rescuing each other continuously and so sorcs could spam CV continuously without any fear of pulling aggro.
Now, no drunken monk was gonna be Main-Tanking in APW anyway, am i right?
So why did the force target changes affect drunken monks too, it makes no sense. It seems like a heat-of-the-moment nerf without any thought for monks. A problem they won't acknowledge, because perhaps they can't fix it. Maybe they will fix it, but as we all know monk has never been high on their priority list. Seems like the whole "purpose" of drunken monk is void now.

Yeah, i am harmonious, and was previously Str>dex>con
I recently took everything out of dex and placed into Int, the secrets are certainly doing more. (Str>int>con) If i add up all my crits, in total it comes to 78% and before with higher dex was 81%.
With all raid buffs (and debuffs) i assume i have 100% crit rate, but i don't crit on every single hit so i assume there is a cap which i have reached. Monk ranged damage is so poor regardless of dex, and i can live without 2% parry/dodge.
For harmonious at least i'd say dex is entirely useless ?

Since the patch to secret of fire/ice i'm sure a lot of you have tried different builds with refund points or whatever.
Those who have tried both please say what you found out.

Race is really important in vanguard, and Strength is the primary stat for us. If you choose goblin monk for example you are severely gimping yourself. Monk always has been somewhat gimpish in the past (and still is for ranged damage) but now we kick ass. In raids you'll beat sorc no problem for dps, and even the best rogue if you are concentrating although that is closer. For a solid monk at lvl 50 go Orc/Harmonious Str>Int> con/dex

Hm it sounds bad. I suggest you just go do the harmonious quest-line, not only is it more dps anyway, but better solo, grouped, better for pulling .... Dragon sucks at the moment, or rather harmonious kicks ass at the moment.

Here's a pic I took awhile back on my first trip down in the gnome city. Atonement of Val Anari Assuming it truly is handwarps instead of a mace, it seems to me to be more of a disc weapon than a monk weapon. Another "balanced" weapon, good for monk and disc, even though one is damage dealer and one is healer :/

imho - Even with the balancing act between disc and monks on weapons SOE is doing - wouldn’t our abilities as monks verse the disc abilities make the dmg given on these "balanced" weapons higher dmg/dps for us due to the abilities we have to use the weapon? And Disciples would manipulate the part of the "balanced" weapon geared to their abilities.
So I dont see any disadvantage in our weapons Verses Rogues honestly...unless the devs are just out right pushing massive high dps stats on rogue weapons and not on monk/disc
I was in no way saying a disc using the same weapon would have the same dps. I got a nice knuckle from Archon, has +Vitality on it...seems such a waste, you can bet rogue's would be in uproar if a dagger dropped with Vitality on. Maybe they can "balance" daggers so they are good for sorcs aswell as rogues, then i'd be happy ^^ As much as i need vitality for energy regen...oh wait... Oh well the +0.0001 extra speed i get from the vitality is useful :P

Almost every quest reward i can remember for monk/disc is "balanced" out for damage and healing, i mean has Str + vit on. Puts us at a huge disadvantage over rogue's dagger rewards for example, you can bet that doesnt have Int on for example. Wish the devs would stop being lazy mofos and make stuff specifically good for pure dmg, and pure healer.
