Yeh i'm with fuj on this, dump all DEX and put it into INT i have absolutely min dex (you cannot lower this attribute anymore) and high INT and totally own the rogues and anyone else for that matter in my guild. There are various threads here telling you why INT is more damage per point than dex, take a look

Hi alacritus, nice to meet you. a few things i am wondering...by aggro control abilites do you mean Feign Death, or Goading Slap? Feign Death is bugged in various circumstances but on the whole is the best de-taunt in game. Rogue has some nice de-taunts too but i certainly wouldn't trade off a -100%hate from Feign Death for them. And it has no cooldown except global....please ellaborate on what you mean. And also, yeh the debuffs are really good, every raid force certainly needs 1 harmonious monk. Not sure if they are better than DKs though - it's a close one. DK gets what -60str/dex/wis/int and then from the Dreadful countenance, +15% crit vulnerability, -200 spriitual resist -10% dmg...or something along those lines? Harmo monk has -115str, -150dmg, -10% dmg, -15% mit (by the way i think the mit debuffs stack with previous ranks i tried on a 3dot with my martial sword + auto-attack, normal hits were 600, Eagle claw IV - hits about 750 Eagle Claw IV & III - Hits about 820 Eagle Claw IV & III & II - Hits about 900 didn't see any increase with the 4th though..i assume the mob was 0% mit by then?? anyway try it yourself if you doubt me )

Orc FTW I certainly would like that racial, must be very useful for pulling Orc's racial (+10%dmg, 100% lifetap ..7sec) isn't particularly good for pulling but great for various other circumstances.. ..most notably for healing yourself when there is lots of AoEs going about and for soloing. And also orcs do the most dps

Regardless of how you twist the words, let's not forget that dragon is the worst style all things considered - .group/raid/solo usefulness, .utility (perhaps they were supposed to trade off utility for dps), .stances. .dps - ESPECIALLY dps, 99% of the time, which they are supposed to be highest.
Noone wants to make drunken obsolete, because then it would be what dragon is now!!
Feet of the fire dragon is not terrible, however, Deadly Adder Hand (harmonious) does about 5 times more damage though AND debuffs str by -112, still think it is good? Costs more endurance sure but in raid endurance is infinite.
Certainly not "useless" puller because dragon still gets Fd, but definitely the worst - if you ever tried some of the harder splits in bad environments you'll learn to love & swear by the invul ability. (For example holding a mob away while the raid engage another and both monks fd: - with dragon they both just die and raid wipes -with harm/drunk can hold off the mobs for 15-20 sec while raid engages one)
Ever tried soloing with a dragon monk? rogues solo better seriously
There is absolutely no reason to choose dragon style over harm/drunk (unless you rate the self invis/levi), so yea they are just a waste of space at the moment imo.

Monk Discussion / Monk Tactics & Techniques / Re: How Important is dex to a Drunken Monk?

This has been dicussed a few times since GU3, i believe the general consenus is: Str>int>dex
and for a raiding monk str>int>con
Both dex and con are pretty substitutable, and you will get a good amount of dex from armour 90% of the time anyway.......and the crit/dodge/ranged dmg make too little difference imo. 300 dex or 500 dex - doubt you would see much difference in crits, if any at all. 300 str or 500 though - huge difference. So i prefer con for the extra HP + resist, for raiding they really do help.

I agree.
And i also just like to say..../vomit at those handwraps ...and discs would prefer str/dex over wisdom 99% of the time anyway. Weak, very weak from the devs.
I'm doing the griffin quest-line on my cleric instead of monk, basically because nothing i have seen is remotely useful for monk (except the griffin) however the cleric rewards are very nice.
What a shame, monks get screwed over first in most quest rewards throughout the lower lvls, then in Apw, and now the girffin quest...thanks a bunch devs

Maybe your problem is external, for maximum dps you need at least a bard + cleric in group. Don't say no to Bear sham buffs too (albeit doesn't need to be in group) Make sure your bard is using a lute off-hand + voice mod mask too..and preferably enough energy regen gear to pump out the best possible song...also make sure they are using sensible song components :- +dmg +attributes +refreshhaste (you won't believe some of the bards "dps" songs people make)
Sounds to me like you don't have a one..sometimes i raid short on my regular group bard...and it's painful, very painful, they are the single most important buff for your dps.

The celerity proc from wearing 5 pieces of apw gear is really really great make sure you Fd a lot though! Compared to other classes i have spoken with, ours is actually the best proc....if you are looking from a DPS perspective... The effects from wearing 3 or 7 pieces of gear is totally crap though, but the gear itself is really nice so...some crap is better than no crap i suppose ^^ But anyway..monks having it best certainly makes a change and yeh...with the current state of sorc/ranger detaunts and abilites....it's close at the top of the dps parses between rogue and monk at the moment, monk is objectively more useful for a raid though monks fTW¬!

First of all dex doesn't really add much to your dps, Str + Int are the best point for point return in regards to dmg.
Also Fists on 5min timer, defo isn't inconsequential..in raids mine is 2min 15sec refresh or roughly around that....that's almost every single fight, or every other fight, and even multiple times on the same fight. Also i'm addicted to Bm's quickening Jolt, ask your guild bm for one on raids, and stack with fists of C.
I'm not very experienced with drunken but i imagine...open with Crescent Kick/ashen hand to get crit chains up (both have hidden crit modifiiers), then use (if not on cooldown) Thousand fists line> Exploding heart chain>flying kick, and repeat.
I'm harmonious so i save Fist of C + quickening jolt for the exploding heart chain, maybe works out better if you use it for Thousand fists chain..will have to ask another drunken, i found drunken monk was really low dps EXCEPT when you could use the Thousand Fists chain - and it was really huge dps but yeh in a raid i'm hitting really strong 50k upwards almost every fight from that, and then use ashen hand + thousand fists with the rest of the 20sec celerity buff.
Of course it's a lot more complex than that, those are just some things i do off the top of my head. Gear is probably your most important thing - if you're running around with blue/yellow gear then yeh..you won't hit as hard as some of these monks. I've always preferred Handwraps over staffs, at the time i found a couple of blue handwraps from rahz was giving me more overall dmg than the graystone bladestaff, apparently not all monks have got this though.

Monk Discussion / Monk Tactics & Techniques / Re: Are Dragon Monks bad?
|
on: March 21, 2008, 08:09:58 PM

Basically yes they are bad I really really couldn't switch to dragon again without some changes to the form....which apparently are not coming. Least utility, least dps, worst tank, worst for pulling, worst solo, worst for groups, worst for raid, sigh Sure sounds like Dragon form is a "self-nerf" buff. No-one can deny that OBJECTIVELY and all circumstances considered...dragon is the worst form. Same for rakurr/wolf with shamans.

Yeh that would be nice, i've always assumed attack speed % debuffs didn't stack, if they did you'd have mobs with -300% attack speed So i always use Secret of Fire in raids, leave the %slow to the shamans + clerics + psis, which are all bigger than ours. What's going on with Secret of Transcendance btw....it's just a big joke now, can't see any point using it ever :/

I salute your show of dedication to martial arts.. i just made monk to smack things in the face You still do ok without a weapon, better than using green handwraps, but not as good as blue. I feel if your idea was in practice, other classes would complain that monk is overpowered, and having uber dps without any need to get weapons is quite frankly boring, half the fun is getting new gear. I'm sure Jackie Chan or whoever doesnt use knuckles and handwraps and stuff, but i like the variation of monk weapons in Vg. Fighting with a piece of cloth wrapped around your hand is still bare fist fighting anyway and in a fantasy world, it makes sense magical/enchanted wraps would increase your power

Yes my abilities "greened out" today when the tank died (my defensive target), could not use crescent kick, goading slap, ashen hand...and various others. Only fix was a relog, and then upon next mob engage i lose all buffs
