Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Bug / Nerf Rumors

Question: fujitsu-xeth asks, "Monks got some attention in gu3, but nothing in game update 4. Feign death dealy still isnt live, our class lead has been MIA for over a month, and drunken and dragon monks are wondering when they will get their useless skills fixed or changed to something meanigful. Stuff like foolhardy swagger (doesnt transfer hate) or sun dragons corona" Silius: Monks received a pass recently and as we finish up the classes we will still fix bugs along the way. There are currently no plans to revisit monks again in the near future outside of bug fixing. *** Dev chat-log: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?GAMEID=147&SETVIEW=features&LOADFEATURE=1821&bhcp=1Just over half way down

Yeh the fail rate isn't too harsh, sometimes if you're unlucky you can get 4-8 fails in a row.
There is that other Fd bug though, that occurs in various places including VT, graystone, storehouse (room behind zaraax spawn loc), nusibe, flordiel etc etc
The bug is that you don't drop aggro even on a successful FD. I'm sure many have run into this.
First time i really noticed it was soloing the shurikens quest in VT. Seems to be very positional (ie move a few meters and you can get a real successful fd) or maybe time based (depends on if the mobs are casting maybe). Affects disc/nec fd too.

oh yeh i noticed this too a few weeks back. If we're getting this huge nerf bat we could at least have some better weapons. Rangers/rogue have better non-apw weps than our apw weps still :/
Not to mention bows with huge attribute buffs on

if you aren't producing 50k+ hits its really not going to change much for you
I never get consistant 50k+ hits (and also don't see how you do that), yet i parse about 40% over the highest sorc due, in whole, to their crappy detaunt, not my "bugged" abilities Even so i think a 40-50% dmg nerf will change a lot in my eyes

Yeh agreed ronmaru, i've been saying all over the place rogue/monk SHOULD be more dps than a sorc for the exact and obvious reasons you stated. Even my guild sorcerors tend to agree. Maybe not by the margin at the moment, but should certainly be at least 25%more dps imo. Rogue would be totally redundant with current planned changes, and monk to a lesser extent. I'll be so sad one day when i got full raid buffs and "your thousand fists hits XXXXXXX for 4k dmg" (with celerity hits for 6k) Besides, sorc would be more dps than us anyway (maybe their CV is "bugged" too ) if they could just shed aggro as well. Seems like a much simpler fix to give sorc more detaunt, than change game mechanics that have been in since release. Then they wouldn't have to alter mob hp either. LOL but they can spend weeks trying to recode everything and what-not, hell what do i know.

To add to the confusion in last nights raids i used Errant strike/fist of celerity 10x with thousand fist chain. Never once did i get a hit for 200k.
In fact every hit was for around 25k non crit and 35k crit. Which is exactly what it should be. Regular hit for 7k, crit for a total of 11k. double that x2 and its 11k+11k(fist of celerity)+ 11k (errant strike) =33k total....vs 7k+7k+7k = 21k total.
Im not sure how fusoya is getting these massive damage hits but its definatly not something i am able to reproduce. Even with max + flat dmg last night, 50% dps mod + whatever the bard added, I never hit for over 100k. With 10x4 attempts, youd think id see one.
Also i tried adding jin surge to the mix, and it made no difference, still saw around 23k-26k hits.
Fusoya if you could elaborate more on where these 100k-200k hits are coming from that would be great. As is i cant reproduce them, and even when i use fist and errant strike at the same time i dont see crazy numbers. I see proportional dmg increase that makes sense.
Same, stacking all stuff together would get to 40k max

Simonson's summary: Go roll a sorc if you are a rogue at the moment (rogues will be redundant) If you are a monk and like pulling/stancekicking - cool, if you like your dps go roll a sorc.
Another alternative is convincing yourself that being largely useless and weak will be fun, "oh but at least i'll be in the 1 or 2 boss fights that needs melee based dps"
I really don't understand how sorc can be justified as the highest dps. Consider this: More dps than rogue More solo ability than rogue More group utility (resistance buffs, ranged mezz, dis-enchant, counterspell etc) Better survivability (don't get hit by dmg shield, most Aes) Less restricted by position.
Monk still has some useful tricks for raid recovery, stance remove and pulling, but i'm in it for monk dps - the other stuff bores me. Imo monk and rogue should be more dps than sorc, to keep things "balanced"

Do other classes have "raid class leads" ? If not what is your purpose/why do the devs think monks need special attention for that? You say "when" QTM returns, do you have news about hm that we do not?
Sorry to barrage you with all these questions on your first day on the job, and thanks for accepting the position and resonsibilites on behalf of monks everywhere!

Fujitsu isn't our new class lead ?? Never heard of, or seen this guy post on forums, not that i don't welcome a CL. I have high hopes! Don't much like Talisker's phrasing on monk's current "damage issues", i can feel the nerf bat already. Well anyway, you'll always be my class leader fujitsu

I have these arguments with my guild casters all day long. I seem to have convinced most of them that it would be unfair and unbalanced for sorcs to be more raid dps than monk/rogue. Main reasons are sorcs are better for soloing, have in-combat ranged mezzes, group buffs (albeit meager), passive detaunt from being ranged, avoid 90% of AEs from being ranged. If sorcs all of a sudden has more Raid dps than rogue....why would you possibly roll a rogue.....when sorcs is better for solo + group + raid etc. Fact is sorcs should be less dps than rogue otherwise it just doesn't make sense to me. Could still make a monk for pulling/CR purposes....but i'd bet 99.9% of monks value their dps over any of that. As for bugged skills, noone ever said we were uber until raiding started, which basically means we are pretty unremarkable solo/group. Nerfing our attacks makes us a total waste of space in those circumstances, when we bring absolutely nothing to the table except dps. And everyone please make some noise on fujitsu's thread: http://forums.station.sony.com/vg/posts/list.m?start=30&topic_id=30262we need a class lead pronto
