1  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: PVP Monk vrs Dreadknight on: January 24, 2007, 02:07:33 PM
In my experience Monks tend to have a hard time killing other melee dps classes or a chain kiting class.  I have beaten my friend who plays a dreadknight numerous times, though our fights were fairly even.  I have ripped just about every squishy I have seen apart too.  Rangers, Blood Mages, and Shaman tended to be the hardest thing I have had to fight.  I can not comment on bard as I never ended up going 1v1 with one.

Generally I have enjoyed Monk as a PvP class, the teleport is really nice.  I can only speak of pvping up to lvl 18 though, as when I tried to make a 35 Orc Monk last night, Martok went down and the buffer was gone.  I was really looking forward to getting the buff so I could see almost exactly what I should expect to be playing when release comes.
2  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Monk utilities suggestion on: January 24, 2007, 02:02:04 PM
Well, I have tended to help tanks keep aggro and reduce the aggro of casters with the Goading Slap and Waning Palm.  It does help a bit, though not nearly as much as a bard song or anything.  I think that simply put, Monks should have the highest steady dps of the offensive melee.  That would make sense IMO as it would compensate for the quasi-lack of doing anything but killing things for the group.  I am sure though more utility will be added in for Monks at some point, but there are probably bigger class issues than with us.
3  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Openers, bridges & finishers on: January 24, 2007, 11:54:37 AM
Pretty much anything but an auto attack will act as an opener as far as I know.  The bridges are specific though in what they open up though.

Also, I don't know where it can be found.  I figured it out when I was playing in Beta.

Here is how it works, if you get a crit attack with a special it will allow you to do a finisher like The Jumping Spin Kick.  You only have a short amount of time to pull it off though, but it is visible that you can do it by a green bar decreasing in the little box you click on.  Also the box will light up to notify you the technique can be pulled off.  Once you get higher, these finishers become like bridges to other finishers, where after you crit with, say the jumping spin kick, then you can activate an even more powerful finisher after that.  So essentially your early finishers will become bridges to later finishers.

I hope that helps a bit.

As long as I can raise faction to enter any city I wish I am cool with that.  If not I will be a sad Orc and probably end up doing Kojani or something.

Yeah, I think it drops all the aggro you have if it works, it does nothing if you fail.

I am going to dabble in lumberjacking and carpentry so I can build my own boats and houses eventually.
8  General Topics / Player vs Player / Re: Monks In PVP on: January 22, 2007, 08:16:16 AM
I've done pretty good in PvP in beta as a monk.  Not really the nastiest thing out there, but monks can hold their own.  To me as a dragon monk, my main advantage in PvP is powerful AoEs.  I can't speak for the other styles though as I have not played them.
9  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Post your info on stance trainer locations please on: January 21, 2007, 12:46:10 PM
When I looked for the Dragon Trainer, he was out by those towers by in a bush beside the center one.  It took me hours to find him and I just happened to see it by pure luck when I was looking in that area.

I'm in North Carolina and it is supposed to snow pretty good tommarow night.  I'm hoping classes get canceled on Monday, but I find it somewhat doubtful we will get that much snow.
11  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: What Style? on: January 20, 2007, 07:46:56 PM
I read on the forums a while back that at lvl 46 Dragon Monks can get a spirit form that is like stealth and levitate at the same time.  I assume it is still in the game and will be there on release.

I'd imagine player law would consist of guilds that claimed territory or an area that they wanted to control and from there whatever they could enforce.  That is just my estimate.

Dragon Monk, I like to kill things, so it is pretty simple.  It also seems to be the best for PvP IMO and the Spirit Form seems really cool.
14  Monk Discussion / Monk General / Re: Feign death on: January 19, 2007, 11:52:36 AM
Yeah, feign death will be resisted by mobs higher than you quite a bit.  If it is around your level or lower though it works just about every time.  I have found it good to drop agro back to the tank if you manage to get it.

I have a 27 Monk on the PvP server if the PM messanger is broken.
