9) Can errant strike be checked, i have a hard time getting it to fire off if im the defensive target (which was how i used to use it to gain ae agro control) or even changed to just make it so all attacks ae, regardless of who the defensive target is?
In my experience, Errant Strikes does not turn your attacks into AEs Rather, it is a quirky Fists of Celerity: Special attacks hit an extra time on your offensive target, provided that it is agro on your defensive target. I don't recall even in grouped situations it ever actually working as an AE. Of course, it basically went unused until the recent reduction in its refresh. I should note that I do not believe that I have had it fail if its use is understood in the above way.

Spitting in this fashion can be doe with any 2 toons provided they are willing to die or successfully fd. In fact, it is sometimes useful to have a tank or necro tag the mobs if a monk would not survive the initial pull.
You can of course also split by continually using a ranged attack and FD, but this takes time and is usually not as efficient.

I agree that the drunken monks avoidance is rather lack-luster. Not only is our avoidance only marginally better than our monk counterparts, but even compared to mit tanks, clerics or other shield wearing classes we don't stand out. In my defensive setup I am at 45% avoidance. Our warrior sits at about 47%.
edited to correct warriors avoidance. It is substantially higher than I thought.

First, welcome. The monk is a lot of fun. I offer this warning though: Beware, you are about to get addicted to FD! As for the styles, they are all viable. You may see us complain some here or push for some minor changes, but that happens with any class. My best advice as to style is try them out and see what you like. I personally settled on the drunken style but I have been tempted from time to time by the harmonious style. The quest to change styles goes pretty quickly so its not too big an issue. The drunken monk is described in the game as masters of evasion. The aspect of the drunken monk that I enjoyed most was the ability to actively use my evasion skills to benefit my group especially in crisis situations. This could be done by forcing a mob to target you then using evasion abilities. Unfortunately, the combination of those abilities with endurance regen, jin regen and refresh reduction gave us an overpowered ability to tank epic creatures.
What I want returned is some way to actively use my evasion skills to the benefit of my mates. This is a situational, risk filled, skill based and rewarding gameplay that can set a great monk apart from a good monk.
Our current skill set no longer allows for this because jeering kick does not last nearly long enough to be meaningful. We no longer have any method of affecting multiple mobs. And our ability to avoid damage has been affected by the changes to swaying step.
Since the refresh reduction on our other avoidance skills have been changed I am not terribly concerned with the changes to swaying step. That said, I would love to see a see drunken stagger last a few seconds longer.
These changes could be done with some form of intercept ability or a more meaningful forced target ability. If a forced targeting ability is used then it cannot be on the same immunity as the defensive fighters as this will lead to the raid banning its use. I have no issue with it being on the same immunity as other drunken monks or other offensive fighters. I would love to have some way to pull either one or many creatures like I did before. Perhaps force target every mob attacking a defensive target?
What I do not want is a passive evasion buff for the tank or an ability that I will be required to spam at every refresh. This is boring and requires no skill. I do like the added utility from swagger; there are some decisions to be made especially on mem wiping mobs. I would focus on changing jeering kick.
The “Wow! A monk can do that?” or “I am rolling a monk!” tells I would get after grouping were quite gratifying. It made me feel heroic. I do not want to be the main tank in a raid, if I did I would roll a protective fighter. What I want back is the risk and reward that came from rescuing my mates.

Look. I fully agree that I should not have been able to tank the guardians in APW for the whole fight. During beta 4 guildies went in there and we could kill them with ease. I knew we had to be changed because that was unreasonably powerful. My issue is not with that.
My issue is that the drunken monk went from a very dynamic class with many opportunities for heroic episodes to a nearly one dimensional DPS class. Before you could be a great monk. Now you are just a monk and player skill counts for much less.
Of course now I have 2 hate abilties to feed the tank but thats boring, brainless and easy.

Players that are complaining just want a spammable jeering kick. F.Y.I. Foolhardy swagger is self targetable, and is an effective taunt IMO. The mode of tanking has changed across the board. You just aren't going to be able to lock a mob down with 1 move anymore.

This statement is completely unfair. Its was not just about holding hate, much more important was taking hate when needed. It allowed the drunken monk to save his group, take pressure off healers when the tank was spiking, rescue a caster and many other things. Your role in group and raid was very dynamic. The combined abilities of being able to take hate at will plus avoid damage while you had it, then loose it at will were very powerful and fun. My role now is useful, but not heroic. Missing are the brief moments of glory where you saved a friend. That is what I miss, not spamming jeering kick. Side Note: To be an effective tank, spamming jeering kick was a terrible idea; Foolhardy swagger + refresh reduction was much more effective. Spamming jeering kick got you killed.

Thought our guild only has 3 monks 2 are Always in the raid. That said I think it boils down to How you and your Guild raid leaders Play.Alot of people still dont realize a monk or 2 monks potential ,its up to us to tell and show them.
We run into the same thing, people underestimate the monk. Heh... not long ago the big secret was drunkens were AWESOME tanks too. You had to work on it; There were many facets you had to pay attention too and the group had to work together but we could hold hate better and take less damage on a single target. We could do some amazing things even in APW. I can accept that those of us who played this way may have been too good at it an needed to be nerfed for the good of the game. I new it had to get noticed sometime. But we will rise again.

Silius stopped by Saradon today as a courtesy visit. I was able to tell him some of my concerns regarding these changes and how they would effect my drunken monk. I only got two brief replies from him but he did say, "We are looking into ways to compensate for the monk changes."

Any chance we can get the damage uped on jeering kick since it is now 30 second reuse?
I would prefer to get a sizable +hate on this. And perhaps up the 10% refresh timer reduction on our hate stance so we can use RitW more frequently.

I know that drunken monks make up a very small portion of the games player base, and as such a nerf that completely destroys us as off-tanks/avoidance-tanks can be justified for the good of the game. However, I have to say that for us that play this class defensively this hurts a lot. My role in guild/groups will be impacted greatly and my ability to solo will be all but destroyed.
I will no longer be able to effectively take pressure off my healers by off-tanking with swaying step.
I will not longer be able to rescue my group by popping an immunity and then Foolhardy Swagger.
I will no longer be able to reposition a mob using jeering kick.
I will no longer be able to hold agro off of a sorc.
I am going from the most effective tank on single mobs ( more than one mob and I am toast) to utter crap as a tank.
In other words, the things that I did that made me feel heroic have been stripped and I am now a basic DPS class will nearly no utility.
Honestly right now I went from elation at the upcoming release of APW to dreading it.
