Title: Blatant imbalance in ranged slot Post by: Fujitsu on December 11, 2007, 06:41:34 AM First of all, for those that dont know, monks/rog/disciples will be getting bandoliers for our ammo slot (work identical to quivers except with throwing weapons only. This was something i really wanted simply because12 stacks of 200 throwing stars is an awful waste of space.
As far as ranged equality goes heres the ranger legendary bow vs legendary throwing stars. Bow Star 242 dmg 290 dmg 354 ranged acc 227 ranged dmg ratting 195 crit 9 crit 35 range 40 ranged So the damage is 50 points less on the bow, but ranger arrows easily make up the difference. Is there some unknown reason to me why throwing weapons should be so significantly worse then bows? I know rangers are masters of range and what not, but that bow is ranger/warrior usable, not just ranger. Bows in general have always had considerably better stats then throwing stars, and in raid situations it would be nice to have our range attacks at least be 60% of what rangers get from just their wardens ranged Title: Re: Blatant imbalance in ranged slot Post by: Draxs on December 11, 2007, 07:22:35 AM I would say it would be unrealistic if otherwise.
Unless your super human your not gonna be putting 300-400 punds of torque on a throwing star. If you could it would do some serious damage though! :knuppel2: Title: Re: Blatant imbalance in ranged slot Post by: Quinn the Mighty on December 11, 2007, 11:35:51 AM or the stars just could be imbued with Jin.
I'll ask Tiraslee if they are the "finished" version. ~QTM Title: Re: Blatant imbalance in ranged slot Post by: Fujitsu on December 11, 2007, 01:58:20 PM It really has nothing to do with strength or the torque you can put on a throwing star.
Accuracy, ranged dmg, and crit modifiers are what i would consider "magical" enhancements. And since we dont get bows for our throwing stars, youd think that our throwing stars would have the same (or similar bonuses). Like qtm said just consider it imbued with jin. Frankly if you remove things because they wouldnt be physically possible get rid of feign death and soaring leap, and how about our secrets. Title: Re: Blatant imbalance in ranged slot Post by: Maciver on January 24, 2008, 05:07:47 AM Sorry for the sizable bump, but I've been curious about this since release. Anyone know if they intended for throwing to be a viable dps option?
I thnk it would be cool for it to be possible to kite with them. Mabey it is already, and im just not high enough level to see it. Anyone happen to know what they intended with monk range damage? Just like EQ, for pulling and nothing more? I know theres a pouch from apw with summoned stars, how good are they? Title: Re: Blatant imbalance in ranged slot Post by: Kivik on January 24, 2008, 05:14:07 AM The APW pouch is nice .There would be very few times when i would use it for dps purposes .As far as outside raid if Secret of ice would snare when using them one might be able to kite smaller 2/3dot mobs,A4+dot i wouldnt waste my time though.
Just my thoughts Title: Re: Blatant imbalance in ranged slot Post by: Fujitsu on January 24, 2008, 05:51:07 AM with aum liat and soaring leap i can kite 4-5 dots with the celestial ward stars.... takes a good 500 to get a 4 dot down.
Personally i have given up on this one, people are insisting left and right that stars shouldnt be as good as bow+arrow and as such its really pointless to try an convince the developers that +9 crit chance isnt even close to the same as +150 archery/rng accuracy/range crit. For some reason they consider the stars as ammo and as such deem it not worthy to have decent ranged stats. Even though its effectively our bow+ arrow Title: Re: Blatant imbalance in ranged slot Post by: Ravkor on January 24, 2008, 10:05:23 AM The APW pouch is nice .There would be very few times when i would use it for dps purposes .As far as outside raid if Secret of ice would snare when using them one might be able to kite smaller 2/3dot mobs,A4+dot i wouldnt waste my time though. Right, Secret of Ice snaring with Shurikens would be neat, indeed! :)Just my thoughts Fujitsu, thanks for posting the stats. At least, QTM might be able to suggest something...Cheers Title: Re: Blatant imbalance in ranged slot Post by: Maciver on January 24, 2008, 10:51:43 AM Just wanted to say also, I dont want them to be a big form of dps or anything. My train of thought was more along the lines of being able to solo a named 4-5 dot with em when we cant go toe to toe. Just another option. You know, then named casters take down without breaking a sweat. I dont want to xp with them or anything. Melee is more fun for me. :)
I dont have the runspeed Aum, can you outrun most stuff with this for this purpose if it did become possible? Although I guess we CAN do it now if you have the time to run around throwing at something for awhile lol.
