Title: What monk stuff would you like to see in APW???
Post by: Quinn the Mighty on October 19, 2007, 08:38:46 AM
Like the title says;

What kind of monk gear would you like to see drop. Could be anything from weapons / armor / utility items.

Discuss,

It would be nice if they would put in monk/disciple specific armor graphics for the pieces that we get from APW so that we can look like the monkish fellows and fellettes that we are.

Martials swords with Katana look  ;)

Mabe special monk gear, disciple and monk gear with "verry light armor " look - look back to EQ1.

I think stats and so are not that lacking now, most high end gear looks good for monk (in case of stats) its only lacking on grafixxxx   :)

What about totaly new weapon line ? Maybe based on usual skill like Sai Forks with  Ulak and Claws skill (it would be slower version of ulak and claws, similar to longblades, 2.75 something)

Onehand Katana and Wakizashi in offhand? Based on Martial Sword skill? Katana full damage with 2,75 longblade speed and Wakizashi similar to parry dagger, no damage but huge defense? It would replace anoying martial sword that calls itself two hand but its wielded onehand (also in chinese martial art too)

What about Hoods? Real Ninja caps, bandanas? Uniqe look, not just like weaponless rangers....

I have tons of such ideas, pictures from other RPGs and so on, cant imagine that Sony Devs are such boring - toss some fantasy in game maybe with next addon, what ever...

I personally would not mind a suit of light armor if it capped out our evasion skills or gave us monk / ninja / shaolin clicky effects.

Stats/Effects
I would love to see more +melee dmg modifiers.
I know its probably not in the code, but perhaps a +jin regen, or -jin cost
Armor with 1-2% reduced endurance cost per piece, full set bonus of +20% reduction
Not really specific to any type of weapon, id love to see more procs overall for monk weapons.
Parry % modifiers instead of +skills (ala +3% parry instead of +150 parry skill)
More +crit range on throwing stars, the msot atm is +9 wich is +0.62% vs a lvl 50, not all that great
Maybe something that adds efficency to aums? like +5% to all aums.

New item types
A bandolier for holding 12 stacks of throwing stars (like quivers for throwing weapons)
An oriental weapon set might be nice  Katana/nun chucks/sai's, make them subsets of current ones.  Katana = martial sword, nun chucks= martial staff, sais= ulaks &claws

Utility
Naturally an improved version of the CW throwing stars, 400 dmg +150 ranged crit, 45 range
More effects like levi/enduring breath so we dont have to camp xenn
a weapon with a lull that we can trigger from range, to make fd pulling easier

Graphic wise
Some partical effects on fist weapons, ala fists of flame!
Id really love to see head bands (think karate kid or metal gear solid), bear chests, etc, make us look more monkly.
Maybe a Gi, or an outfit that looks more karate like and less knight in chainmail

As above,

New armor appearance that is "monkly"

1 or 2 very hard to obtain +jin items, wether it be a clickable +10 jin on a decent cooldown timer or any variance of such. The main Idea behind this for me is the ability to give us a little spike damage on a boss mob if need be as well as rebuffing our maintained 1 hour buffs without having to sit and med for them.

Another great use for a Clickable jin item is after death. When pulling for a raid it is a pain to have to sit and medd making the whole guild wait for me to rebuff myself. A clicky +20 jin item on a nice 30min timer or so would be really handy. Can even make it so that you still have to be meditating to use it.

Having to sit and rest for 2min just to put our self buffs on is rather annoying honestly.

Hmm, verry good idea - lack mitigation but give us huge evasion on gear.  Would show more the playstyle, some chose mid gear with more AC and mitigation but less evasion. Some love the danger of beeing onehited but trust on their high evasion.

One thing I would like to see is leg armor that looks like a Hakama (divided skirt).  As for weapons I would like to see something that resembles a three segmented staff.  For throwing weapons, I would like to see something of dart design.

What I would like - although not specifically a drop - is the ability to hand in a chest / leg item to a Monk trainer somewhere, and add an emblem of your chosen style to it. Or maybe just a dropped item that added it. I'd love a chestpiece with a huge dragon on it :)

I very much like the idea of a clickable +Jin item. A 30 minute reuse seems perfectly acceptable. Maybe call it something like an Incense of Battle Spirit or whatever, only usable during meditation.

Another idea could be specific items tied to a type of attack, like weighted leg armor, dealing extra kick damage.

And, of course, more procs.

Most of my wishes are graphical in nature, though;
- Katana look for martial swords
- Claws that look like claws instead of a spiked knuckles
- Headbands (which could again, include a style emblem on a metal plate, much like the village logos in Naruto), sampans, sashes, bandanas.
- Boots that look like sandals or the sandals with wooden soles traditionally used in Japan.

Claws/handwraps definately. There's only 1 legendary claw weapon ingame and it's mid level, if we can't get more legendaries can we please, at least, get more fables? Preferably better then flawless cavalier's jagged wraps of striking :D

In APW there are legendary dusts that drop that you use to make legendary crafted items, one of which can be a handwrap.

400 dmg 150 crit 45 range throwing stars? Hrm no thanks way too powerful.

New armor always nice, perhaps some Shaolin looking robes, with evasion I suppose.

Dropped spells? Perhaps an increased heal? A longer range storm stride? Was very taken aback when I learned the DreadKnight Shadowstep has a 35m range. A special ranged attack that attacks twice on a 20s cooldown? Fang of the flying viper or something, dunno lol.

I always worry about giving too much to one class =P

How exactly is 400 dmg 150 crit 45 range over powered?

Ranger bows add about 200 range AND 200 crit. they can use swords to add another 300 + crit.

They get quivers to hold 12 stacks of arrows before reloading.

I think its perfectly balanced, maybe the range is a little long, but the fact we dont have quivers, or bows to boost range stat seem plenty fair for a trade off

I rewrote this post about 10 times and cannot find an answer that suits the discussion.

PvP is unbalanced. Adding 45m range throwing stars for monks makes the problem worse. If you do not have any knowledge of the current throwing weapon situation then I emplore you to roll a toon to 50, be it shaman, rogue, monk, whatever, and make the sole focus of your development dexterity. Then obtain tier 5 crafted rare throwing weapons. You will easily find that you kill sorcerors, necromancers, druids, disciples, shaman, warriors, paladins, dreadknights, rogues, rangers, monks, bloodmages, psionicists, and bards solely with throwing weapons and never entering into melee.

The effect is doubled when you are a rogue/wolf shaman and begin your attack from stealth. Note that throwing weapons do not reveal a player from stealth, while a rogue's bow would do so.

Now most people die before they ever find that stealthed shaman or rogue, simple solution is to sacrifice stats on your gear and obtain awareness gear which will allow you to see stealth, which of course means you will not have any hitpoints on your armor. Essentially you will have a tiny warning before you heallth drops to 40% from 2 throwing spears/daggers which noncrit on your silly head for 1000-1600.

I could go on for about 3 more pages but I really think nobody in here cares, but if you do care I suppose I will continue the discussion.

Should you become confused in thinking my arguement is to fix throwing weapon usage from stealth, you are mistaken. The point of my arguement is to leave monk's with the 35m range throwing weapons they currently posess as it is my own experience that 35m is just enough for casters and the like to close the distance to mount a proper counterattack. Provided you soaring loap away from the poor sorceror, obviously he isn't going to catch you.

Anyhow I find this discussion rather aggravating in my inability to properly express just how unbalanced PvP truely is. In the event I succeeded in said expression I will rejoice, l o l.

If ganking = pvp then 45m range = awesome PvP combat.

I remember reading somewhere that the game provides PVP as a service and the classes were really never meant to be balanced for PVP. Someone may know a bit more about that than I do.

i would like to see a harvesting helm for monk drops for when we do get the visual graphics of helms ,
ya know the large round one that made out of straw :2funny:

that would be awsone as for the battle gear im for the samurai armor look really wanna steer away from the pajama, sandle look :uglystupid2:

but the again the ninja look for like when were gonna go in and stealth pull a mob  now that would be awsome

my qeustion bout apw is if i dont get a chance to raid lets say when apw goes live   ect till i do im not gonna have to  buy  the dropped gear from a necro that farmed  apw a  month  later am i?

I wouldnt worry about some necro farming APW not gona happen..as for buying stuff..i would think most guilds will eat up the  1st month to 2 months of drops within the guild..after that there will likely be some drops that the guilds might sell.

Not sure I know what you mean about buying gear. Anything above blue is soulbound so are you reffering to blue items or what specificaly?

Probably the Attuning , Focusing, Resonating Crystals for T6 crafted as I dont see how anything else could be droppable.

Again, ive said it before and ill say it 1000 more times, planing item balancing around pvp is flat out impossible and does nothing but punish the 90% + of the population that dont pvp.

The basic logic was that we shouldnt get 45 range stars because the 0.1% of monks on a pvp server with an item would be over powered?

Ahh, ok, then I would soay most likely yeah. Raiding guilds will very likely control these resources more so than anyone else.

Does the mob have to be level 51+ technicaly to drop T6 resources?

If so I would imagine that you wont find many that level outside APW.

The legendary crystals themselves are what make legendary items. The resources to my knowledge are still Tier 5 making these red items not actually tier 6. The current stat increase in using a legendary crystal over a uncommon/heroic one, is really a joke.

Here are two links for you to compare.

http://vg.curse.com/database/items/details/814718/ Legendary so it uses an item like this: http://vg.curse.com/database/items/details/1059913/

Compared to a heroic chest: http://vg.curse.com/database/items/details/799934/

Like I said dunno if it's "official" tier6 but I doubt it highly.

Tier6 resources can be found in wrymwing slopes, blinding shallows, and a couple other spots. Tier6 skins to my knowledge only come off of ceti spores.

So um, the legendary chest has the same avoidance % and less crit?

Blinding Shallows got the nerf last patch.

Can still find t6 Nodes bet haven't seen any t6 UR for some time now

I really am upset if thats raid gear.

+1 to each stat, and less crit/same avoidance.

the only upgrade is armor class :-/  So yeah they didnt lie its "the best armor in the game" but uh, i wouldnt raid for 2 minutes to get that stuff

Thats not raid gear. Wayyy back a bad patch put masterwork crystals into the loot tables and a few peices of 'masterwork' were crafted and found there way onto curse.

The crafted items from APW require a looted recipe, looted components, looted resources from APW bosses and an item from the final boss to activate an item after its been crafted.

I'm certain they will be much different to the odd peice of 'masterwork' that was crafted from regular recipes in a breif glitch after a buggy patch.

I wouldnt use curse as an authoratative source on gear at this point in time. It's handy but things have been in such a state of flux I would call it less than reliable.
