Title: Safe Fall
Post by: Keoki on March 12, 2007, 05:17:12 PM

Any tips or sweet spots for building up this skill?

Getting tired of jumping off the Khal walls.

Jumping off the first landing on the stairs just inside the Ra'Jin fortress works well in Kojan.  Just make sure there's not guards waiting down below to hack on you.

Actually i have a question about safe fall.  My safe fall is over 100  and it doesn't seem to make how far i can fall safely any farther.   The other day i jumped off some mountains (i accidentally hit soaring leap while trying to climb over them, i love that ability!) and fell fairly far, but i thought with 100 safe fall i'd be ok, at least i wouldn't lose ALL my life, but i did.  I dont think safe fall should be a little more effective, hehe.  Anyone else think it isn't working as well as it should be?  Or maybe each skill up only adds 1 extra meter you can fall safely?  how is it calculated anyway?  I think i fell about 150-200m.

Honestly, I think safe fall in this game is useless.  You have no idea how far I have fallen and taking almost no damage.  My skill is around a 140ish at level 34 but i can practically jump off a mountain and take 10% damage.. Safefall or not if you jump off a mountain, you should be dead.  I've also done the jumps with my alt PSI ... same effect .

I just got safefall to 200.  You can fall extreme heights and not take damage.  Over by upside defense garrison (east of it near the coven) there is a huge hill that overlooks the coven on the right side.  Climb all the way to the top and run down it and jump.  You can get back up in about 3 seconds since you are working it on a hill.  Very easy way to increase it.

Get Super Jump at 34 and you will find it goes up a lot if you play with it as much as I do  9-)

It indeed does, I have been having fun with it for about a week now

There is a place in thestra by the coastal graveyard, one of the light houses, where you can have the guards throw you back and forth over the wall.  Your safe fall skill seems to go up once for every throw over the wall.  It is actually quite fun.

heck.. the river valley elevator things, especially if you are as bad at negotiating them as I am (I hate those frickin things) can seriously work to PL your safefall.  Just go at a slow trot through it, sufficient to make sure you keep moving all the way across and run back & forth.

Soaring Leap + Hills = Safe Fall Haven.

I used the hill leading up to the ledge a tsangs to raise my skill from ~50 to 160ish, (~50 earned by  never using ramps in CB) and im currently raising it playing a VERy dangerous game with the elevator in New Taarganor(sp?)

You won't notice just how much safe fall helps until you get on one of your other characters and die trying to jump down off something.

You can train it up on anything that makes you lose health when falling. You can probably train it up on jumps that don't even take away life.
You do train it faster going off larger falls, but that usually comes with much longer travel times back and forth so it evens out.

CiS area, Ageless One Tower, weve been finished. I was looking down to the bottom of the Tower.

Sasa: Tempting Jump, any bets.
Cleric: Wouldnt do it, rogue catched 15k dmg on that fall
Sasa: 15k really ? Well ill be only 12k short then.
*Bomp*
Sasa: Holy 1300 Points falling dmg - not high enough.
Cleric: ....

And really if you want an good spot to level - New Targonor, elevator from Harbor to City Level. It has arcs every few meters if you go down so youre able to select how deep you want to drop. Just watch the evil lift on jumping it. And yes its deep enough to not see the bottom at all. Just a lot of grey mist on looking down.

think someone in the thread has hit on best way to skill it up:  get soaring leap & use that constantly.  I get skillups going downhill crossing the continents.

Yesterday was bored and ran figure 8's. Land side ramp opposite the Dock/Teleporters. Turn on auto-run, ran up the wood ramp, jumped off the top, curled back around and came up the other side ramp, jumped... about 90 minutes later I had 117 Safe fall.

The jump did about 25-30 damage at skill ~10, and virtually the same damage at skill 117. hmmm....

I used to try to keep it capped per level for the first few but that started to get harder and take longer, now I basically just run up and jump up whatever happens to be on my path.  If there's a rock, I run up it and jump off.  If there's a hill, run up and jump off.  I get a skillup occasionally and it doesn't take much time out from other things.  I'm up to about Safe Fall 189 that way.

I can fall ridiculous distances and take at most 100-300 damage if any.  I get the impression it is possible to "critical miss" though, I rode the Leth Nurae water slide to the pool at the top of the goddess statue, arced out into space from the top of that and died on the rocks far side of the lake at the base of the statue.  But that was back around skill 120 or so.

But yeah, if you just get in the habit of running up any incline and jumping off anything that you happen upon, you will raise it over time without a lot of trouble.  It doesn't really seem to matter how high either as long as you get airborne, it's just skillups are less frequent.  (can't confirm this.)

Nehji Hyaku, my level 50 monk on Halgar has Safefall maxed out at 500   8), it didn't take long at all to get it up.
I went and worked on it about every 10 character levels   ;)
Even though you'll have to jump off high areas, height of the fall doesn't seem to matter "as much" as how long you're airborn
and as odd as that sounds, there are ways to work around that

For those who were having doubts, safe fall "does" make a big differance, a jump that'd normaly kill other players barely scratches my monk now with safe fall at 500
