Title: Monk patch notes on test server
Post by: Soluss on March 02, 2007, 01:36:49 PM
- Disciple, Monk - Monk and Disciples unarmed damage is treated like a weapon. The unarmed rarity levels have been adjusted to: below level 10 mundane, level 10-19 common, level 20-39 uncommon, level 40-49 rare and level 50 rare+. Rare+ is between rare and ultra-rare strength.
- Disciple, Monk - Monk and Disciple unarmed damage is no longer the equivalent of a weapon with maxed out damage of the corresponding rarity level. It is now more akin to actual item damage progression.
- Monk - Monk base damage has been slightly increased

sounds to me, unless i am reading it wrong, that we get screwed again.  In there path to make weapons viable for monks, instead of making our skills utilize them they just lowered our bare hand damage.  I hope I am just reading this wrong but it is what it sounds like tome.

Hmmm, sounds like they're at least trying.  They mentioned that monk damage has been increased.  I wish that were a little bit more specific.  But I'm ok being slightly dependent on good gear in exchange for doing more damage with those weapons.

Sounds like we should start shopping for hand wraps and knuckles if we don't already have a good set.

Well if I am reading this correctly ... they increased BASE dmg SLIGHTLY ... means we will probably see 10 or 20 more dmg per hit.  It also sounds like they nerfed down bare hand damage so that it becomes more viable for a monk to chose a weapon over bare hands.... in essense lowering our dps because our skills dont really take into account weapons.

Where did you see this in the Test Server notes?  I'm looking at them but I don't see it listed.  Maybe I'm looking at the wrong ones.  They have this..

- Monk - Aum of the Harmonious Body should now grant upgrades to Deadly Adder Hand at appropriate levels.
- Monk - Aum of the Harmonious Body should no longer give incorrect error messages.

from this link.

Where are the notes you were looking at? I'm just curious.

Log in to the test server and view those notes.  The notes you are reading are outdated and from the website.

I remember seeiing these in a previous patch, at least I'm pretty sure I have.  I don't think it's new.   Could been a dev post stating that is what they were wanting though can't seem to remember when and where i've seen it..

Though I'd almost swear i've seen it in the live patch notes before....

The unarmed rarity levels do look like they're from a previous patch, however there is a change, I think? I believe it used to be <10 mundane, 10-19 common, 20-29 uncommon, 30-39 rare, 40-49 rare+, and 50 was an ultra rare. It seems they've removed the whole 30-39 bracket's rarity change, taking an entire rarity level off the top half of the ladder. Hopefully more changes make their way into the notes, if not then it looks like we get some more quality time with the Vision and his rather violent affections. A "slight" base damage increase just sounds like a couple painkillers. They'll help a little but a couple only go so far!

Quote
- Disciple and Monk - Unarmed damage is no longer treated like rare weapons at all level ranges. From level 1-9 they are now common strength. From 10-19 they are now uncommon strength. From 20-39 they are rare strength. From 40-49 they are in between rare and ultra rare strength. At level 50 they are the equivalent of an ultra rare weapon in damage modifier. Monk and Disciple unarmed attacks still retain their improved speed and critical hit chance.

is from some OLD beta patch notes, so I'm not too sure how much they changed besides instead of max damage for that level range, it will be more spread out within the tier?

Well yes, that is very close to the old beta notes. It does seem that they moved everything down one level though, effectively making our hands slighty worse.  However that was not the concern I had really it was more this part....

- Disciple, Monk - Monk and Disciple unarmed damage is no longer the equivalent of a weapon with maxed out damage of the corresponding rarity level. It is now more akin to actual item damage progression.

Im not sure I understand this part correctly but it sounds like they actually lowered the damage bare fists itself. While they increased our BASE dmg SLIGHTLY.  Effectivly if I am reading this correct... The lowered dmg of bare fists and lowering the rarity dmg of bare fists will lower are overall damage that I am use to seeing using bare fist.  The slight increase to BASE damage will bring our damage back up some, meaning this will be a complete wash and we will be no better off then we were before.  Actually may even be worse off using bare fists but maby slightly better off using weapons now, IF they are GOOD weapons.  Which is something I definately did not want, was a nerf to bare fists to make weapons viable.  However, I could be interpreting this all wrong because I really am not sure I understand what that part of the patch notes really means.

Previously uses of the word "slightly" has been an indication of that something was increased or decresed by a threefold potency. ;)

hmm I bugged the adder hand harmonious issue several times, it appears that they are actually reading those specific bug reports
