Title: Griffon Quest
Post by: Fujitsu on March 08, 2008, 10:37:21 AM
Everyone feel free to chip in, gonna start it now since i have a few days off.

Step 1) Griffons of a feather...Ch. 1 Initiation
Location: Southwatch
NPC: Scout Pellillo (14110,-56759, 80575) (near the hatchery on a hill)
Use the potion to turn into a bush, and harvest 5 griffon feathers. You cannot get within 15 m of a griffon matriarch, moving or not.

TIP: Get the quest, find a baby griffon (non targetable but changes colors when you mouse over) thats not near matriarchs (theres 2 to 3). Turn into the plant, harvest the griffon, then drop the quest. You keep the feather. Get the quest again and go harvest the same griffon. Takes 5 minutes to finish. If you dont do this, you cannot harvest the same baby griffon twice, and i found it to be a pain dealing with noobs agroing everything.

Reward: Nice pair of gloves (first of a 7 piece set) and a nice necklace

Step 2) Reporting for duty
Location: Starts in SW
NPC: Scout Pellillo
After completing the last quest, you are now tasked with reporting to NT to find Naziel Brockman. Naziel is in house Vermach at loc (-54382, 21674, 36501)

Step 3) Naziel's Request
Location:Starts in NT
NPC Naziel brockman
After a short dialog you get the next quest, kill 3 named npcs. Make sure to chat with him about the events so you know how to spawn everything
a)Rhaz Iknur : Kill torlaxis the flare hound... summoned by pouring effreti blood on the seal of rahz. Just like it sounds, go to the domo room, and pour powerful efreeti blood on the seal. You either get a raz hound or tolaxis. Average seems to be about 1/10 is named.

b)Nusible: Kill Pharo Harakhan... Seek out Ozymandius in NN.
You will need to collect the pieces of his body and put him together. lower upper torso --- Harakhty
lower torso --- Xefti
head ---- Kehepfa Asim
heart --- Pharaoh Shekhan Nkosa
50 Harakhan's Mummy Wraps (trash in nn).
Pharoh is a dps fight and you basically need to kill him in less then 2minutes. Hes got a buff that decreases casting range, and casts it every so often, each time forcing you to get closer. Hes also got a close range mana tap. Basically casters/healers will walk forward slowly staying at max range.

c) Grogalok swapm: Kill Fungal Abomination
Wind of the arch mage Travel to the swamp and kill the arch mage while holding the sphere of collection. This is the standard Hengerian encounter. If you want loot drop down to the quest giver and you can nowpick your loot since the encounter doesnt drop anything. 6 hour lock out. 30 min respawn.

For the stripe of the king: Kill the Prince. He is on a 1 hour timer now. Once dead, he spawns the Queen.
kill the Queen in order to get her blood which will active the King. Blood drops every time now, but she only drops one.
Clear to the king and have the holder of the blood stand back. Clear THE ENTIRE area as best you can. Then approach the king and he should be come active. If not king has a "call for help" and calls for adds. Could just bring an necro and ae fear if your brave.
Tip: Theres a big rock you can get on, and pull the king too and it puts him out of range of all but 3 mobs so its a lot less clearing. King hits for 2.2k on a monk, total joke of a mob and died in about 40 seconds.

Combine the 2 at the given location to trigger the Fungal Abomination.

The fungal abomination: this is a tough mofo. Hits for 7k and its a locked encounter with max 6 people.
TIP: EVERYONE needs the magic mushroom or you wont get the quest update. So everyone on this part NEEDS to do HEG (3 manable) and fungus king (take a group so people dont gank the queen).

Step 4) Memories of the old Blood
Location: New Targ, in the griffon watch house. After finishing the last quest (Naziels request) you are given a poem (key to entering the house). With the poem in inventory, hail Naziel, and completly the poem (something about "fear the power of the griffons flight") You will be teleported into the house where you get the next quest.
NPC: the 1st talon

Travel to old targ, and kill lots of trash to get the named to spawn:
1) Knight Raffen -- I am flawless you are not-- paths by gorzenag arch (spawns at tower in NE) ....Paladin mob, throws up a damage shield after ~2min Burn him down as far as possible first. If you whipe he keeps ds up for the entire next fight

2) Sage Shorul -- "Greed" -- paths by gorzenag arch (comes from west)... 2 inches tall and bullet proof. At 50% ae's greed of the we, an energy tap. Through out the whole fight will have a buff on "-80% dmg" , it will be on for 40s off for 20s. Burn in those 20 seconds, save endurance/big attacks till then.

3) Sage Tekar -- hope is a false promise-- paths by gorzenag arch (comes form east) ...Has 2 major aes. Range dps fight, you can joust for 10-15s. Use the debuff in the bard buff bar, melee from 1 min till 45s, then get out. Wash rinse repeat

4) Knight Akande --tempt my wrath -- paths by gorzenag arch (comes from east).... Hits for about 10-12k, spawns a pet wolf that hits for 7-8k and will force taunt you off of akande. strat is up to you

5) Knight Cennfar -- "Thirst for blood and flesh" --Spawns at NW dome.... Nothing special, has a stance at 50% you need to push.

6) Sage Naranda -- -- Spawns at central castle... Heals, not gonna post her strat

***You get the first upgrade for the necklace

Step 5
Visit 10 locations, 5 in thestra, 5 in qalia. each location you need to click on 2 griffons, and 1 dead scout body.
After 4-5 locations you will have automatically learned 5 elemental spells. Complete the locations and finish with a place like ToT harbor since its right next to the rift.
Fight the umbral agen!
Turn your particle effects on and stare at his hands. He will cast 1 of 5 spells at a time and you need to counter using one of the 5 spells you just learned. Pull all the spells onto a hotbar and go. May take a few tries and he tends to randomly heal so be careful it could be a long fight.

When its all done return to the third talon and hand in the quest.
***second upgrade to the necklace

Step 6
Buy a harness for 5p and papers for 3p from the 4th talon, then hand in the quest.
*****third necklace upgrade

Step 7
Day at the races.
Head west of new targ to the race location. Turn your particle effects up high and hail the npc. You will get a ground griffon and be told to run a race.
Mount up, rehail to start the race. Not sure how your supposed to do it, but i ran through the particle effects and every time a bandit spawned i dismounted and killed it then moved on. Finished with 2 minutes to spare.

Next you go straight into the flying race. Its timed again and you will fly through hoops of fire, they start red and turn blue after youve gone through them. After you go through them all you find yourself at a gnome. She will port you to sano the fixed.

Solo boss: Sano The Fixed
He gives you a flying griffon. You have to fly around and touch the orbs that are glowing to counter his spells. Again you need particles up pretty high to see which one of the 5 is sparkleing. Once hes dead loot the chest then go hand in the quest
***4th necklace upgrade

Step 8 Chathe
Step 9 Striffe McCloud ---regular griffin
Step 10 Raid encounter --- faster then wyvren griffin

Step 1) Griffons of a feather...Ch. 1 Initiation
Location: Southwatch
NPC: Scout Pellillo (14110,-56759, 80575) (near the hatchery on a hill) - *edit* head up the long trail going NE out of the town, and you will eventually find him on a rock near the hatchery.Use the potion to turn into a bush, and harvest 5 griffon feathers.   You cannot get within 15 m of a griffon matriarch, moving or not.
Reward: Nice pair of gloves (first of a 7 piece set) and a nice necklace

Step 2) Reporting for duty
Location: Starts in SW
NPC: Scout Pellillo
After completing the last quest, you are now tasked with reporting to NT to find Naziel Brockman.  Naziel is in house Vermach at loc (-54382, 21674, 36501)

Step 3) Naziel's Request
Location:Starts in NT
NPC Naziel brockman - *edit* he is down in the main section of town, past the first 2 sections, when you get to the crafter area, turn right, then turning right again takes you back in the thieves alley place. turn left, and before you go through the next gate, theres a little alley on your left that leads behind a building, and he is there.
After a short dialog you get the next quest, kill 3 named npcs
a)Rhaz Iknur : Kill torlaxis the flare hound... summoned by pouring effreti blood on the seal of rahz.

b)Nusible: Kill Pharaoh Harakhan... Seek out Ozymandius in NN, in the room east of where you summon Pharaoh Harakhan. *edit* Body parts are assembled from wraps (trash mobs at entrance) head (godking) heart (pharaoh in the gestalt room) lower torso (ambassador) and upper torso (?) You will need to collect the pieces of his body and put him together. Apparently it is a somewhat challenging fight, so be ready.Combine the 2 at the given location to trigger the spawn.

The RI hound, Torlaxis can not be raided. We did him a full man raid, but got no guest update. A GM told us that it was cos of the raid. so don't spend your blood in a raid.

Yes you can have both

I've done with my monk the Abom/Pharao/Dog part of the quest, off to OT now.
The thing is that the Abomination fight is VERY hard.
I mean without a raid geared tank, and overly buffed, most tanks would be 2 or 3 shotted byt the abomination.
Also, some classes have a much harder times on this fight.
I tried to do it with my girl friend's disciple (and by the way, was grouped with Swang ^^) it was impossible to chain heal with end heals.

Monks are imho one of the most usefull class on this fight : they can dps and FD to clear aggro, can stance push, and also since the abom does ae hits you can parry a lot and then counter with the -50% dps debuff witch will help a lot.

Post by: Fujitsu on April 09, 2008, 07:57:31 AM
The first time i beat abom.

Me (drunk), rog, dk, shm, disc, sorc

Its possible for a disc to do it, just not as the only healer

Title: Re: Griffon Quest
Post by: Jaoust on April 09, 2008, 09:14:38 AM
Do you know anything about the wyvern quest? Is it any easier since it is raided quest?

Title: Re: Griffon Quest
Post by: Fujitsu on April 09, 2008, 09:48:05 AM
it is SIGNIFICANTLY easier....if you can kill Dresla and Kotasoth.  Thats all that is required, complete that and you have the wyvren.  Literally thats it, kill 2 mobs.

That being said im only aware of 7 guilds that can kill Kotasoth, and Dresla only drops 1 egg a week.  So your looking at 4 months to get everyone a wyvren.  Where as griffin you can get everyone in the guild one in a month

All things equal kotasoth is a 10 minute fight and is pretty tough now.
Dresla is pretty easy, id rank her about as tough as the old X99

Its possible for a disc to do it, just not as the only healer

A properly geared/specced disc can heal very well longer than any other healer except perhaps bloodmages, arguable with a 20%aggro redux stance and FD the disc can do it safer as well.

Its just extremely rare for a disc to persue all the right tools to max out their healing and do things like fight with a flawless hexing handwrap in mainhand + flawless healing focus in off hand etc. and build good macros to max out their effectiveness.

Title: Re: Griffon Quest
Post by: Simonson on April 09, 2008, 04:14:41 PM
Noone doubts that disciples are excellent and the best endurance healers,
I think fuj meant that disc adds the least to the group in terms of dps/stability.
One group with a disc as the only healer can be harsh at time, the same group with a cleric healer would have roughly 30%+ more dps, 1k more hp, 7% mit etc.

I have a disc and cleric both lvl 50, 95% of cases the group is better with a cleric.
Sure disc can heal longer, but it's very rare that my cleric will go oom too, and for stuff like Fungal Abom...disc or cleric couldnt single heal it anyway

Title: Re: Griffon Quest
Post by: Fujitsu on April 09, 2008, 05:28:07 PM
Yeah on a long term fight id go with a disciple any day myself.  But for the abomination, unless your fully raid buffed, a disciple alone probably wont be able to cut it.

Compared to shm/clr their buffs/debuffs are pretty weak.  Not to mention bonds arent exactly ideal for that fight, you dont have 30 sec to debuff a mob as an only healer vs abomination, its pretty much non stop spam healing jin/end/energy based heals.

Hello ^^

Thats the point about this quest, its none to easy, and yea you will need a APW geared Tank. Monks can help a lot, but as a whole all of the group needs to be on the ball.

My point is that to kill something like the abomination you need a really good group, but get nothing as a reward.
You can do Hegne with a group of 4 (even 3 i suppose) and get amongst the best pre apw rewards.

I guess I was understanding that most guilds were in fact raid buffing the groups that did this.  As for landing debuffs a disc's are instant cast and don't effect global cooldown.  ;)

But yeah if you were purely relying on what the individuals on a group bring to the table I would have to agree that cleric buffs are mindblowingly handy.

Lol no, when i did fungal it was with a pick up group with just shm and disciple buffs ;-p

Title: Re: Griffon Quest

I've done the abo with a tank that was being two shoted by it without outside of the group buffs.
So unless you have a really good tanks, outside buffs are needed hard

Title: Re: Griffon Quest

Well I did the abominatin last night... For Pharoh, does everyone need to assemble the body, like how everyone needs the mushroom for the abom to get the update?

Title: Re: Griffon Quest
Post by: Draxs on April 24, 2008, 02:00:09 PM
no, the body is for a seperate quest. You only need the pharoh kill for the update.

soon as i get the go ahead, ill post the guide up to the raid mob, they want to keep it in the guild until the bulk of us are finished.  If others want to post, go ahead.

Hey Fujitsu, any updates on the quest?

I have completed Old Targarnor, and I am on the next part.  It is some solo quest that you gotta run around and find stuff.  Then I understand after that you gotta complete the diplo req's and then the crafting req's?

Also, do you have any stats on the upgraded griffon necklace?

Thanks,

Jaoust

updated up till chath, no strats for akande/naranda though, some things are better for you guys to figure out.

Chath i probably wont ever post a strat on, same for the quest after, which is striff mc cloud, the final boss for the group griffon

Title: Re: Griffon Quest

Chath event is bugged for monks currently, our ashen hand ability actually heals the pet at the end, as well as a few of the trash mobs.

Will keep you updated when I hear when a fix is coming.

Title: Re: Griffon Quest
Post by: Jaoust on May 09, 2008, 07:28:19 AM
the strats for akande/naranda are pretty well known.  these mobs have all been completed many many times with pick up group.

Title: Re: Griffon Quest
Post by: Fujitsu on May 09, 2008, 07:36:53 AM
theres ways around that fusoya, we dont even fight the pet.

Then post the joust and ill add them to my list, my guild asked me not to post their strats so i gave as much info as possible

Forwarded the Ashen Hand in Chath bug to the dev's this morning they assured me it will be taken care of. As Fujitsu stated there are ways to avoid fighting the pet until the fix is patched in, but still a bug non-the-less.

Solo boss fight Sano is bugging out really bad for me now.

I am killing him and getting ported back to the gnome right away.  She'll port me back up and the chest is there but i cant loot it and Sano is standing right on top of it again.  Sano is despawning mid fight all the time.
