Title: I refuse changing style ...
Post by: Hag on February 10, 2008, 10:56:08 AM
Ok, i'm a lvl 50 monk of Dragon-style on Halgar and i don't want to change style!

Why i make this official? Because i get pestered and even laughed at by other monks, when it comes to what style one is in PUGs. Does this only happen to me? And do YOU - my fellow Drunken or Harmonious monks - look down at the gimped, outdated Dragons?

Call me selfish - as i know i would be of more use to any group i'm fighting with, call me narrow-minded - as i know it would be a snap to change style and back again if "my" Dragon style gets "fixed", call me a fool - but i'll stay to the bitter end.

Why?
2 simple reasons. First, as it's a matter of RP for me - i didn't choose race for uber-dmg and i don't hop between different styles - or even classes - just to be top-nodge. I chose race, name and outfit to be what I want my monk to be.

Second reason is the most important though. If all former Dragon-styles simply change to another, why should SOE ever invest time to "fix" the Dragon-style?

Is there anyone out there that understands me? Or am i like an oldfashioned Dinosaur - waiting on the time when i'm the last of my kind?

I get you. I changed to Harmonious and liked it better - seeing the Harmonious style has at least had fixes. But I changed back. I refused to change styles for a long while, and was curious as to how the other side of the fence was. But Dragon was my first love, and I'm back to it now.

I was dragon from 1 to 50 and i can honestly say I love the idea and loved the monk... Until i changed to the other forms and realized how underpowered dragon was.  Its not even a matter of dragons being less then harmonious or drunken.   It litterally felt like dragon monk was a beta 1 toon and harmonious and drunkens were actual classes that were ment to be in the game.

I felt cheated, shorted, bamboozled etc.  In the end though change comes so slow, that instead of being called worthless 95% of the time i changed and went to a form that alows me to be of use until game update 5 or 6 when they get to balancing dragon monks.

I wont say your selfish, its your "time", use it as you choose... but just know you could have more of that "time".  Just dont be suprised in raids if the raid leader knows dragon monks dont offer as much as harmonious/drunken and as such you get benched.  You could try all you want and use every trick and ability in the book, but in the end you wont hold a candle to the other two forms.  Personally once they fix dragons ill probably go back.

I don't like the idea , that u are able to change style. I think it is very overpowered. If players whant to try out other styles, then they would have to reroll.

I hope, when they have balanced the class a bit more, they will take away the quest to change style.

I don't think they will, seeing as how Shamen recently got a way to change patrons. I reckon they don't want to force people to reroll for something as 'minor' as a style.

I'm same as Fujitsu, dragon 15-50. I loved it and never complained

Then i tried all other styles a bit, and came to the conclusion harmonious was best.
Dragon is so weak and gimp right now :/
stuff like that dragon beath AoE, and the -10%mit in offensive stance...i could never go back to dragon..i'd feel...dirty...violated...

I was once like you however, devout Dragon monk. Although i've had a long-term affair with harmonious, if they ever made dragon better dps than harmonious i'd go back.

Thing is....my guild has done some Dps parse logs (http://yavlp.areyoureadyforpain.org/publish.htm)
i come out top everytime, TWICE yes twice the dps of the highest sorc, and roughly 20% more than rogues.
To actually make dragon the most dps, it'd have to be the "hugest beast of a damage dealer of all time" :O

and with the bear sham/cleric/psi endurance buffs nullifying the harmonious penalty...i don't see how they can manage it, without giving dragon offensive like +50%dmg lol
